Winning mindset

211

In several of Martin O’Neill’s 11 games in charge this season Celtic have been poor, the recent outing at Falkirk a case in point.  What’s clear, though, is Martin’s winning mindset.  Even when under pressure (late against Dundee) or facing several great chances (Falkirk), there was a high degree of confidence Celtic would get the job done.

In all honesty, the Europa League seems like a distraction this week.  The Scottish Premiership is all important and a visit to Edinburgh on Sunday weighs heavy on the mind.  That will not be how Martin O’Neill sees things, though.  That mindset will not allow anything other than the execution of a plan to win the game.  His first 11 will start the Europa League game on Thursday and – successful or not – they will take the field with confidence they can deliver.

You and I have watched too many Celtic away games in Europe to be too optimistic about the outcome.  Still, some of us have many reasons to never underestimate Martin O’Neill.

  1. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Good morning CQN

Another fine day to be a Celt

Here’s hoping we get a new striker confirmed today.

    And possibly another signing too.

Hat tip to Bada Bing – he called this one early.

As for the guy himself? Never heard of him

But, IF he pulls on a Celtic shirt …

    … he’ll get my support.

  2. The hand of God on

BTB , mine too.Its most unusual nowadays to have heard of any of Celtic’s signings as they come from far and wide.

  3. BTB- A bit of a stretch, but big Sutton wasn’t doing it with Chelsea and we took him, plenty more examples out there, his goals at Prague were a good mix….

  4. Mostly critical posts on here at the moment, which given the circumstances is why. Now there is a bit of positivity because of the signing, folk are hesitant to comment due to the way things can take change very quickly in Celtic transfer business. But welcome Tomas, let’s hope you find your Sparta form with the Tic, por cierto.

Nice bit of Youtube scouting, cheers Bada.

The new bhoy has a lot of things going for him – tall, strong, good feet, fairly pacey, scores from all points.

Let’s see what MON’s magic wand can do with him.

  6. Massively frustrating re Ajax getting a win last night at Villarreal. They are a crap team but have a slim chance of qualification.

We really wanted Olympiakos going to play an Ajax team already out of it.

A win for the Greeks would make it impossible for rangers to gain direct CL entry next season and would surely impact on their potential to gamble to strengthen now.

We have no such £40m carrot to aim for. Sadly.

A poor summer transfer windows put paid to that…

  8. A striker with a recent history of problems

Rehabilitation required, can Mon, Shaun and Fozzy get him to fire

Iheanacho was a rehabilitation signing, so far costly and not available 6 months

We don’t have a lot of time if the SPFL title is to be retained

Sadly the Sutton and Hartson no longer available with what Dermot wants to spend

Thanks to MO’N and staff for getting on with an unacceptable dogs dinner of a football dept

Our tentative enquiries for players we are considering tentatively enquiring about are gathering pace and seem to have borne fruit with our new striker . I assume we must also have an idea of the price , should we take up the option to buy in summer .

Be nice to do some more business before Tynecastle . Let’s see.

  10. Going by Transfermarkt Cvancara can play effectively on the right wing as well as striker, 2 goals in 3 from the wing in a better league than the SPL, a decent record from CF in the Czech league as well. A decent option on the right if we can get Kele fit and even bring another 9 in.

It looks like he’s gone to a much tougher league and struggled a bit to get starts, he was behind Kleindienst last season who starts for Germany.

Perhaps instantly good enough for the SPL, but with a bit to do before hes good enough for Europe.

A loan with an option seems like the sensible deal.

  11. Press reports and the BMG forums suggest someone with a bit of an attitude problem but a player who has ability and plenty to prove.

Seems like a good deal for both parties but I guess, like all signings we won’t know for a while yet.

  12. You don’t miss what you never had, and, when a board prevents adequate team strengthening that will help you have a much better chance of qualifying for the CL, and, its additional payments, then the carrot will rot in the ground and has done too many times, reading some on here you would think Kairat was a one off.

  13. AN TEARMANN on 21ST JANUARY 2026 11:02 AM

He scored goals in a better league at a younger age, hopefully he’ll fit our style of play.

Its not just goals for me, we need more players who’ll help with our two biggest problems – dealing with a high and a. low press. He’s done well on the wing so hopefully he has decent technical ability.

  14. On the way to school used to try to get to the wee corner shop early for “ The penny tray”

If you were late …it was just the crap that was left or bits that were too expensive….

    Sound familiar 🥴🤔

    Celticpennytrayfc..

Loved MB bars but they were thruppence , just oot ma reach most of the time… well worth it though 😢

Sorry Gen Z , probably don’t know what the feck Im going on aboot !

    ——–

    Cheers, B78.

I can think of a much simpler method that would “make it impossible for rangers to gain direct CL entry next season”

    And its closer to home.

    And within our control.
