Wishful transfer thinking, broken Hearts

953

Celtic have been linked with a whole barrage of players over the last 24 hours, strongly linked in some instances.  While it is more fun to drool over players coming in than fret as existing players leave the club, I’m very sure that some of the reports floating around right now are the product of wishful thinking on the part of agents trying to place their players with a top European club.

For each player you read about, two others will be under consideration, and remember the golden rule, if players or agents are talking publicly, they are not talking to Celtic.  It’s easy to generate screeds of column inches for you, or your client, with a few well-chosen phrases.

Ukio Bankas statement this morning that current bids for the assets of Hearts which they hold security over, specifically Tynecastle Stadium, scene of Scotland’s most famous non-assault, do not meet their valuation presents real challenge to the club.  Hearts are a club capable of generating in the region of £10m.  Operating the club on a budget this size will be difficult, raising enough cash to satisfy Ukio Bankas might be impossible.

Unlike the situation last year with Rangers, when Craig Whyte secured an irrevocable undertaking upon liquidation to transfer Ibrox Stadium to Sevco 5088 Ltd, Ukio Bankas liquidators are unlikely to reject a CVA but accept a lower bid for Tynecastle.  Without a stadium, a Newco is unlikely.  The best Hearts fans could be faced with is going “Cap in hand”, as they sing down Easter Road, to Hibs, with a request for Newco to ground-share.

Wallace Mercer was ahead of his time. Flats, flats……….

Twists n turns : remember Cadetes debut very well. Beat the sheep 5-0. It was on April Fools Day I think. I was in the main stand and the place went crazy when he scored- I’m sure Peter Grant played him in. Story goes that the place was so noisy we knocked Radio 5 Live off air when he scored.

Remember Tosh McKinlay having a great game that night. Must have set up 3,maybe 4 of the goals .

    Great night.

see BMCUW video link just a few posts back. Yes, Tosh done well, as did Simon Donnelly. Script was written for Jorge to be leading man though, and didn’t he play the part to perfection!

On moving Hearts elsewhere I agree. Attachments can be life threatening.

In 10 yrs or less it might be Edinburgh City v Glasgow City (not the ladies team who do a great job for ladies soccer) for the right to join Celtic in a European Central league from a regional league.

    Soccernomics n that.

  7. BMCUW – Anywhere OK for me as I seldom go anywhere near the bar anyway.

Masty – Fischer is supposedly going to be Ajax’s Next Big Thing – £3M wouldn’t come remotely close.

    The Digital Revolution…

Went to the game on Saturday with the intention to get Elfsborg tickets while I was at it. The queue at the ticket office was pretty long, so I decided I’d leave the game a little before full time and swing by the ticket office on the way out.

    Wrong decision.

    Ticket office was closed.

Went online last night, and after a fair few page views, found the ‘reserved seats’ tab and got the Elfsborg tickets for the 3 season books.

Or rather, I paid for the tickets but I don’t have them.

Naively, I thought my season book ‘smart card’ would be automatically validated for this match.

Or else, I figured, I’d be able to print out a bar coded voucher to use at the smart turnstyle that reads the smart cards and smart tickets.

Tell me please… I’m not going to have to go back in to Celtic Park to pick up printed tickets.

    Surely!

seem to remember reading that Jorge’s goal against the sheep blew the radio clyde transmitter up with the noise from the stands.

  20. cadete v aberdeen was one of those amazing nights at Celtic park where your hairs stand on end because a player has set your heart on fire..will never forget the cheer when he came on as a sub and then raced up the park to put the ball in the nette..the roar from an unfinished paradise was on a par to anything of recent times and a hero was born..if we sign finnbogason it will emulate those times..i have no doubt h.h

No tears if Wilson goes but will be blubbering like a baby if no replacement lined up. Wilson has underwhelmed me. Celtic too big for him NF probably his level.
