Wishful transfer thinking, broken Hearts

953

Celtic have been linked with a whole barrage of players over the last 24 hours, strongly linked in some instances.  While it is more fun to drool over players coming in than fret as existing players leave the club, I’m very sure that some of the reports floating around right now are the product of wishful thinking on the part of agents trying to place their players with a top European club.

For each player you read about, two others will be under consideration, and remember the golden rule, if players or agents are talking publicly, they are not talking to Celtic.  It’s easy to generate screeds of column inches for you, or your client, with a few well-chosen phrases.

Ukio Bankas statement this morning that current bids for the assets of Hearts which they hold security over, specifically Tynecastle Stadium, scene of Scotland’s most famous non-assault, do not meet their valuation presents real challenge to the club.  Hearts are a club capable of generating in the region of £10m.  Operating the club on a budget this size will be difficult, raising enough cash to satisfy Ukio Bankas might be impossible.

Unlike the situation last year with Rangers, when Craig Whyte secured an irrevocable undertaking upon liquidation to transfer Ibrox Stadium to Sevco 5088 Ltd, Ukio Bankas liquidators are unlikely to reject a CVA but accept a lower bid for Tynecastle.  Without a stadium, a Newco is unlikely.  The best Hearts fans could be faced with is going “Cap in hand”, as they sing down Easter Road, to Hibs, with a request for Newco to ground-share.

Wallace Mercer was ahead of his time. Flats, flats……….

    A week?

Took you longer to recover from a mouthful of curry, ffs!

    And me,truth be told….

Had a phaal last week,it paled in comparison, believe me. Felt like taking it back, but I was a tad concerned what they would replace it with!

Have to admit, that for me, Wilson was well up there in the POTY ratings last season.

I dont think i’d like to see him go just yet……..but if £3m is being touted then, given we do have cover there, perhaps I’d take the dosh.

Also has the Boerrigter deal been completed?

My mate was sitting next to him and his agent this morning on flight over from Amsterdam. Apparently medical and final crossing of “t”s and dotting of “i”s was all that remained to be done.

    Twisty/BMCUP,

re wife going to the game,

Know the feeling. She who must be obeyed was complaining about the time i spent going to CP for games. “Come down the road with me for a couple of games why don’t you” says i thinking she’d say not a chance. But no “Ok” she says. One game – Against Partick Thistle at CP – James Grady, i think, scored for PT 1st them we pumped them. Anywho dreadful day torrential rain but the worst part was her complaining it was too noisy, too cold and to compound matters asking “which one is Larsson”?????. To this day I am sure she was taking the p out of me but I told her then and there I would never take her to another game as it was too stressful an experience.

  4. bmcuw.. don’t upset the waiters by saying it’s not hot enuff.. did that back in the 70’s and guess what.. waiting for the #10 from bath street on a Friday after the usual ruby and a few beverages…

  5. Re the running, I ran the Glasgow Half marathon last year with an appalling hangover. Went to a birthday bash the night before with no intention of drinking and was tragically led astray.

Wee bit slower than usual (1:40) but it’s do-able. Can’t make my mind up between the 10k or half this year as I’ve been injured for ages.

Will do the sponsor thing whatever one I choose.

She spent the whole game marvelling at the fireflies inthe crowd.

It was actually the constant, random lighting of cigarettes on the terracing. But, she knew that.

    First and last game.

Anyone within sighting distance of the place where they do the medicals? or will they bring them bay Celtic Park first?

  8. I’d be sorry to see Wilson go. It wouldn’t be good to sell the whole spine of the team (Wilson, Victor, Hooper) under most circumstances. Just before a make-or-break European game would seem to be playing with fate. If the new players had bedded in (or perhaps even arrived) then I’d feel much more comfortable. I still think we will qualify, but I think that there may be some fingers crossed in Celtic Park. They certainly are here in Apricale.

  11. If Wilson were to leave, I would be sorry to see him go. I believe the big man is a team player and showed last year why Neil was so keen to get him. It is laughable that Davies wants him back after basically benching him when he signed a pre-contract with us, to the detriment of his club and Kelvin’s fitness. If Kelvin and his family are having trouble settling in Glasgow there’s not much we can do other than to wish him well and get as much as we can for the out of the transfer.

The guys coming in are actually further along their professional development track than the people who left (when we first got them) IMO.

Celtic and NFL can win this league as often as they choose to. The new orcs will take more than 10 years to catch us and thats if they ever do.

Our place as the undisputed historical holders of total league championships, hopefully setting a new world record along the way in this country, is coming and there is nothing and no one who can do anything about it.

  22. Looking forward to Wednesday’s big game. Trying to avoid all the transfer speculation. Even if we did manage to bring someone in, I can’t see them playing any role on Wednesday night. Hopefully we don’t get caught out and remain focused for what is an almighty important game of football for us.
