Withering in the vine, sin and orange

633

At 21-years-old Tom Rogic should be strongly staking his claim for a central midfield berth at Celtic.  The fact that he’s not is a disappointment to the player, and apparently the nation of Australia.  It’s also a disappointment to you and me.  He has the physique and the passing ability but after some tentatively positive performances last season he hasn’t kicked on as hoped.

There could be lots of reasons for this, it’s not necessarily the ‘fault’ of the player, his ability or the club, but football careers wither on the vine when clubs hoard talent.  If Tom can get some game-time under his belt at Melbourne Victory, and potentially get to Brazil in the summer, we will have a better indication if he is the real deal.

Someone just text me, “Rangers need to be a long-term sustainable business and that’s the bottom line.  The club needs to change”, from that memorable Craig Whyte interview to The Scotsman in 2012. Groundhog Day….

So Fifa presidential candidate, Jerome Champagne, has proposed the introduction of a sin-bin, to be invoked by the referee brandishing an orange card.  What’s your view on this, is there a universal association between sin and orange, or is this another subversive plot by Celtic fans? I have my suspicions.

  1. Think I may have lost the plot!! We sign Balde & Pukki, now we are talking of sending them out on loan, just don’t get it. Why sign them in the first place.

And as for tangerine, amber, deep yellow cards, bring it on.

Talking about past and present tense….one must allow for local dialect…as in John Browns famous standing on the steps of Ibrox quotation….”Yooz et aw ra pies”

Yooz…in these terms is a bastardisation of the non word “yous” which, as any intelligent person will tell you is completely wrong. John, in this instance should have dropped the “s”, or in his case….the “z”. I overheard him once, standing at a bus stop in edmiston drive, talking about hippopotimy, only, he was using the oft quoted hippopotomousesisasous

    ———————————–

Ra bomber also invoked the use of the rarely used verb ” bote”

    Youz bote ra pies!

    Youz bote ra strips!

So just who bote ra deeds???

  4. Has any player in recent times gone out on loan to another club and come back to claim a regular place in the Celtic 1st eleven? At 21, Rogic should be good enough for first team football. Lenny doesn’t think so, so it’s unlikely he will ever return. Shame, ’cause he looks a decent player.

I am confused at the amber, orange, tangerine, etc card debate. Would it not be better to sin bin a player for a yellow offence?

The player gets a yellow and the sin bin and a red card still stands as a sending off. There would be few sendings off with an orange card offence as a sin bin.

Do you then get another orange card to merit a red or does a yellow suffice?

Gets very confusing and allows the bigger clubs and nations to get the benfit of another decision. The referee can bottle out of a red card offence and give an orange card punishment when a red should be given.

A yellow resulting in a sin bin would not change the laws much and would provide an opportunity to reduce these taking a yellow for the team offences such as pulling a player down or just kicking a player in a cycnical manner.

If a team goes down to 9 or 8 players due to their players being in the sin bin then the club need to sort their dicipline out.

I think the major issue in this country would be around the location of the sin bin. To teams have a seperate sin bin? Where do they locate these bins for sins? For instance in a volitile atmospehere at a ground like Tynecastle where can someone like Anthony Stokes or Scott Brown sit in a sin bin? Certainly not anywhere near the home fans. Much is their hate for our players I don;t think the club could guarantee their safety. It’s an interesting concept and would have to be trialed. The league cup would be a worthy place to trial it.

I’m not sure it is easy to manage in the current stadia in Scotland though.

  7. Pukki can’t go on loan, he’s already played for Schalke and us this season so that is an indication of the accuracy of the story.

To be honest with you (A McCoist, any interview, 2012 onwards) I don’t have a problem with the verb “bote” as I often use it when participating in social events…..ie…..”Right 3sy, its your round” to which I always reply….”Aye rat’ll be robie….ah “bote” ra last wan”

  10. LiviBhoy @ 15:16,

You make some good points, would they still have the rule that the game would be abandoned if a team has <7? players.

There are a lot of games where a team gets 5+ Yellows these days.

As our colours are Green, Whyte & Gold would referees at CP use Gold Cards.

Apparently they have been using them at Juve for years …. allegedly.

    Hail Hail

  11. LiviBhoy - God bless wee Oscar on

    Chairbhoy

If the sin bin is for 5 mins I doubt a team would get 5 yellows in a 5-10 min period. As I said in my original post it would cut out a lot of the so called professional yellow and the cynical foul.

    LB

  12. Might have been already covered but only practical use I can see of “the orange card” would be that it is issued to the player who has commited a foul that results in the player who fell foul having to obtain treatment and subsequencially having to leave the field as a result.

As is often the case though how long before another regulation brought in to supposedly make the game better is abused by those of poor moral value. Can just see it where player X (insert your fave) from country or club Y ( As bofore) Goes down and while knowng he is going off he can select the most threating opposition player to go with him. My X and Y’s all involve Mourinho bye the way

  13. scotlands shame on

just because you read it in etims diary KINGLUBO doesnt make it true, like 99% of the rubbish written, most is just one guys opinion. As someone stated pukki cant play for another team this season and has lennon or anyone at celtic confirmed this made up nonsense? If not perhaps save losing the plot for when something you actually disagree with happens rather than get worked up over some guys fantasy world. I presume you dont read the tabloids otherwise you would be a basket case seeing as one internet bampots ramblings can make you lose the plot!

  14. The orange card will be brought in to help one team.

The reincarnation will struggle when it turns up and will be assisted all the way…we all know it.

It will be used to benefit one team and now and again we will gain an advantage, when we are coasting in a game.

  17. I was a decent enough player at school, played up front for the guild. But the first time I realized I wasn’t as good as I thought was. A guy the year below me just oozed class. I would be running full pelt while he seemed to be floating. He reminds me now of Robert Prosinecki. Always looked as though he had time and space but never under pressure. In our late teens we played fives together and he still oozed class. I asked him what he was doing. He said he had just left Morton. He told McGraw to shove it and was studying law. I thought oh well at least he has a good career. I spoke about him recently to a mate assuming he did well for himself. My mate said the last he seen him he had a carry out heading for a drinking den and had a problem with drink most of his life. A sad tale.

  18. DId I miss something I took it we were talking about a FIFA initiative. Even the most rampant bluenose at the height of their control of the SFA could dream of a rule from such having them in any such mind?

Maybe just narking down the wrong tree but such is the reaction here at times only other that comes to mind would be Real Madrid?

I think they are far deeper into the illusion than that. In their world they did nothing wrong and actually were punished it had nothing to do with there being a consequence for given action.

I think that was a decent bit of advice you gave the Battered Bunnet. Should be grateful we have a government committed to free tuition in further education. With a Labour Party that’s committed to the English version of £9k a year he probably finish up owing £36k on top of the £20k you mentioned.

Don’t let this chance disappear because it could be the only chance we get to change the game in this country once and for all.
