Withering in the vine, sin and orange

633

At 21-years-old Tom Rogic should be strongly staking his claim for a central midfield berth at Celtic.  The fact that he’s not is a disappointment to the player, and apparently the nation of Australia.  It’s also a disappointment to you and me.  He has the physique and the passing ability but after some tentatively positive performances last season he hasn’t kicked on as hoped.

There could be lots of reasons for this, it’s not necessarily the ‘fault’ of the player, his ability or the club, but football careers wither on the vine when clubs hoard talent.  If Tom can get some game-time under his belt at Melbourne Victory, and potentially get to Brazil in the summer, we will have a better indication if he is the real deal.

Someone just text me, “Rangers need to be a long-term sustainable business and that’s the bottom line.  The club needs to change”, from that memorable Craig Whyte interview to The Scotsman in 2012. Groundhog Day….

So Fifa presidential candidate, Jerome Champagne, has proposed the introduction of a sin-bin, to be invoked by the referee brandishing an orange card.  What’s your view on this, is there a universal association between sin and orange, or is this another subversive plot by Celtic fans? I have my suspicions.

I think they are far deeper into the illusion than that. In their world they did nothing wrong and actually were punished it had nothing to do with there being a consequence for given action.

Come to the conclusion it is a sanity measure for many of them

The uni tuition rate out with Scotland in the UK is £9k per year.

The Labour Party policy is to introduce similar rates in Scotland. We have a four year degree course. I hope this explanation suffices

    Correct.

  7. Can you imagine the media if Barry Ferguson got the job at Stalag Hun. Remember the year he went without receiving a booking. It was cos he was Scotland captain said the media. They backed him to the hilt when he fell out with PLG. Ian King wrote a truly vomit inducing piece on how Barry wanted buried in his Rangers top. Shudders. The butcher would run out of lamb if he came back here.

  8. LiviBhoy - God bless wee Oscar on

I would imagine Bazza will make bids for all sorts of dross from his former club and a few from another couple of Scottish clubs IF he is allowed to buy players. It’s a temporary job he may not get any funds.

Ince had to be sacked. I know he is looking after his sons best interests but he is the manager of the team. Madness!

Was that the year he took an Aberdeen player by the throat and didn’t get sent off cos elbows had already been sent off?

And didn’t he get three bookings in Euro comps, cos the refs aren’t scared?

  10. Ah Bosco, you just reminded me about Iain King. Around about the time of the Sunday Mail’s vicious campaign against Fergus and Celtic, King wrote a wonderful fairy tale about the huns buying a top Turkish striker. He may even have penned the ‘exclusive’ about the huns’ pursuit of Ronaldo. They ended up with Flo(p). As 67 heaven would say, “hahahahhahahahahahahahahhah!”

Forfar boss Dick Campbell was impressed by his side’s opponents.

“Get off Rangers’ backs,” he said. “The goals they scored were magnificent. World class.

“Honestly, Barcelona couldn’t defend those two goals. Credit to them, their quality beat us. You would expect that because they are full-time, while I have got plumbers and boys coming off the boats at half five to play. So I have no excuses.”

  15. glendalystonsils on

Referees seem to have trouble dishing out red and yellow cards appropriately.

Introducing a third colour could cause complete mayhem.

For those refs of a Sevconian persuasion (practically all of them) it could be a handy weapon against Celtic. Not as contentious as a red………just sin bin a key Celtic player at crucial times in a match to give the opposition a wee leg up.

So, definitely not for me. There is more than enough scope for Mibbery as it is.

Couldn’t agree more and can’t help thinking that our yellows would become orange cards while certain others straight reds would be orange at best.

  24. I supported the idea of a sin-bin card. amongst other rule changes, in a CQN magazine article.

I recognise the fear that posters have of partial application of the rules by biased refs, but I remain convinced that it is a sensible idea to distinguish the levels of yellow card offences that currently exist and the stupid inflexibility of 2 yellows amounting to permanent ejection from the game.

I welcome a good idea nut I am not naive as to how it can be used as a bias tool. We need to clean up the refs rather than reject good ideas.

I see Bobby Madden was being put into the Ian Brines Box of ‘incompetent but not biased” by Mark Guidi because he had seen him ref Rangers badly too. I am unsure though I accept it is true of Brines. What I am sure of was that I thought Madden was the worst ref in the world on Saturday until I saw the performance of Brian Colvin in the Hearts: St. Johnstone game on Sportscene.
