Withering in the vine, sin and orange

633

At 21-years-old Tom Rogic should be strongly staking his claim for a central midfield berth at Celtic.  The fact that he’s not is a disappointment to the player, and apparently the nation of Australia.  It’s also a disappointment to you and me.  He has the physique and the passing ability but after some tentatively positive performances last season he hasn’t kicked on as hoped.

There could be lots of reasons for this, it’s not necessarily the ‘fault’ of the player, his ability or the club, but football careers wither on the vine when clubs hoard talent.  If Tom can get some game-time under his belt at Melbourne Victory, and potentially get to Brazil in the summer, we will have a better indication if he is the real deal.

Someone just text me, “Rangers need to be a long-term sustainable business and that’s the bottom line.  The club needs to change”, from that memorable Craig Whyte interview to The Scotsman in 2012. Groundhog Day….

So Fifa presidential candidate, Jerome Champagne, has proposed the introduction of a sin-bin, to be invoked by the referee brandishing an orange card.  What’s your view on this, is there a universal association between sin and orange, or is this another subversive plot by Celtic fans? I have my suspicions.

  1. Lot of Celtic fans congratulating him but these are the same fans that argued with him over same club debate because he was talking nonsense.

They say he’s always polite etc etc but in my eyes it’s about seeking the truth and unfortunately him and the MSM fall down on that subject surprise surprise

Don’t ever post anything non-Celtic on the blog but this is very funny on so many levels from Skysports web-site:

Forfar boss Dick Campbell was impressed by his side’s opponents.

*oul Dick was caught singing tangerine songs in that Irish pub opposite the cathedral in Seville.

His defence was that he had a kafflick wife and kafflick weans so didnae really mean it. Oh aye and he also said that rankers people were good people as his oulder brother was one.

  11. Reports in Portugal have linked Celtic with a £6 million move for Benfica midfielder Filip Djuricic.

The 21-year-old Serbian playmaker has failed to make an impact in Lisbon following a £5 million transfer from Dutch club SC Heerenveen last year.

He has started only five matches under coach Jorge Jesus, with his only goal coming in a 2-0 Champions League victory over Anderlecht at the Estadio da Luz.

Djuricic was dubbed the Balkan Cruyff as a teenager and left home at 15 to sign for Olympiakos. His spell in Athens proved fruitless and he returned home with Radnicki Obrenpovac within a year.

He made his senior international debut last year and his four goals in 15 appearances for Serbia include both in his country’s 2-0 win over Scotland in Novi Sad last March.

A better prospect than Gauld, who would cost half the transfer fee??

Hungarian teenager Mark Murai is set to join Celtic on trial, according to his agent.

The talented young striker is set to join the Scottish champions for a week-long spell.

The 17-year-old is currently at Hungarian outfit Koposvar and has already been capped by his national side at under-18 level.

Murai’s agent Balint Kovacs told Kapos.hu: “We’ve asked permission from his club, Koposvar to let him travel to the Scottish club.

“They have allowed him to join Celtic. He will join Celtic’s reserves.”

  18. Tin hat on here…..

Lots of debate on here last few days era Fergus McCann.

I will reiterate my ambivalent view towards the man due to the way he ultimately treated one of my heroes,Tommy Burns, and also the way he left Jo Venglos brutally exposed with a team of journeymen for our first attempt at the Champions League v Zagreb.Even more embarrassing when you consider how poor Zagreb proved to be in the competition after their victory in a Qualifier where they were miles superior to Celtic.

League Flag ceremony where Fergus,as guest of honour, unfurls the 3rd banner of Lenny’s reign?…..ok,acceptable…..he rebuilt us to win a 2 horse race at the 4th attempt….Take a bow Fergus then take a seat in the background again.

Fergus should never be mentioned regarding our rich European Cup or Champions League history.

European Cup obviously before his tenure but Champions a League is a different gravy when I think of the Bunnet……..Fergus was old school and had no vision to take Celtic any further than stopping Rangers sequence of titles then leave to count our / his money.

His legacy gets over rated on here, in my opinion, regarding saviour status.

There would have been other people stepping in to secure the Bank Overdraft if he didn’t do it in 1994.Too much sentimental guff written about this hard nosed little businessman who made himself a great business at Celtic.

Respect for what he did…..but a visionary outside of Scottish football….Nah ….not for me.

We have bigger living legends who deserve the accolade of unfurling flags or having statues commissioned than the wee guy now resident in USA.

P.s.I didn’t boo him that day…….I was sitting in a bar in Vilamoura marina getting pashed instead.

  20. Ryecatcher, could you please name some of “other people”,you state would have taken care of the bank overdraft, perhaps even explain why they chose to let Fergus McCann take all the credit

  21. Ryecatcher canny argue with most of that but

“Even more embarrassing when you consider how poor Zagreb proved to be in the competition after their victory”

    Not embarrassing at all.

Zagreb went out after finishing second in their group.

  22. I wonder if DeeEll will ever spill the beans on Radio Snide, why he got transferred from Ibrox.
