There’s a moment in Woody Allan’s movie Bananas, after the leader of a military coup takes control, that he loses his faint grasp on rationality and plunges headlong into random nonsense. He informs the inhabitants of his Latin American country that Swedish will be their new language and that underwear now should be worn as an outer garment.
BBC’s Jim Spence this morning reports that a Dundee United director, flush with the success of reaching the League Cup final, told him United want almost double the ticket allocation for the final than they were able to sell for the semi-final, as “We want to ensure as big a crowd as possible for the game, which we are sure the sponsors would want too”, and that he wants United fans in the Toryglen end of the stadium, or the Celtic end, as it’s known by everyone else in the land.
Sure, ask for more tickets than you were able to sell, but don’t justify your request on the basis that this will ensure a bumper crowd. If anything, it will achieve the opposite.
Asking for the Celtic end is right up there with wearing your pants on top of your trousers. It’s a random and irrational exercise of power by someone who is evidently in way over their head. It’s technically possible to have United at the ‘Toryglen’ end, but it would achieve no benefit and only cause confusion and inconvenience to thousands. If Woody Allen is short of quality material (which appears to be the case), he should spend some time here.
Scotland is not full of these types, but those there are seem to gravitate towards positions in our national game. From now on, I’m going to think of United chairman Stephen Thompson with his pants on the outside. Pantsman Thompson, seems an appropriate handle.
I don’t know about you, but it’s been a while since I’ve had to listen to thousands sing “No Pope of Rome” at a public gathering. The problem is not as significant as it was a few decades ago, and is largely limited to the embers of a dying sub-culture. The rest of the country has moved on, as have most Rangers fans. I’m not sure how, or if, you can check these excesses, but I’m sure they are overwhelmingly self-harming.
Kenny MacAskill, appointed Justice Minister in the SNP government on the basis of having selective hearing and being able to make absurd claims, left his post in November. His government have yet to make any comment on yesterday. Nor have they repealed the politically-motivated Offensive Behaviour Act, or show they are remotely interested in asking for the laws they introduced to be enforced without fear or favour. The Act was aimed at you and is simply flawed. It is toxic, remains in place out of nothing more than bloody-mindedness and will be repealed at the first change of government.
Anyway, you’ve got a cup final to look forward to on the weekend of the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite, on Friday 13 March. Email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com to book your tickets.

I recall the time when Brown used to really annoy me. He still does but I love it. Strange that eh??
Any complaints about pitch need to be directed to HPL at Hampden , whatever that means .
Sectarian and racist chant complaints need to go to the SPFL .
jonnyrambo67,
Yer a bad mhan, enjoyed watching it. ;))

Great news, and thanks in advance. Can I have 4 tickets please, North Stand, just to the left of the centre line. I would prefer about half-way up, so I am roughly equidistant from both pitch and pies.
Do you sort out transportation from Turra to terracing annaw? You could be (could? Ed.) better than Thomas Cook Travel . . . .

Deadline open until tonight so that the Bosch could keep all their players for SF and sell immediately afterwards.
The fly in that ointment is that the big stage of the SF seems to have showed they have nothing to sell ha ha

One thing that stood out for me yesterday is the complete lack of pace in the Sevco team. The second-highest wage bill in Scotland and they only have carthorses. Who does their recruitment? Every professional team has to have some pace about them. They have none. Happy days :)
Well noticed…………..
Never thought that yesterday would be so easy…truth is The Rangers International FC are finished.
Will watch transfer movements today with some interest (not expectation).
Dundee on Satirday will be more competitive….at least we have no new injuries to contend with…
HH
Must add commentery on BBC was woeful from start to finish, highlight programme made no comment on ‘elbows’ at all…………..seem to remember them getting stuck into Virgil one week.
Yesterday confirmed that Charles Green also bought the bigotry.
Silly money demonstrated nicely here:
“Birmingham have rejected a £5m bid from Bournemouth for their 18-year-old striker Demarai Gray. This is the fifth time Bournemouth have been in for Gray after an initial offer of £3.5m was also rejected. Birmingham say Gray is not for sale.”
£5M for a kid who has played just 30 games …
16roads made a couple of interesting posts last night.
One was something that crossed my mind during the game.
A quick shot of the Celtic bench showed Deila, Collins, Kennedy and our own, Jim McGuinness.
Four more strong minded, focussed mentors would be hard to find.
Each one, I believe, sharing the same views on the game and the professional attitude required to succeed.
Four tough hombres.
I hope that Celtic and Commons have reached agreement and that both sides’ expectations have been realised.
However, his contract situation is not a priority for today.
Scott Brown’s verdict
Just another wee reminder that the news section for the new CQN is active here:
http://www.cqnmagazine.com
This will be integrated into the new look CQN site but in the meantime pop over when you can for news updates and Celtic features. It is already getting really good traffic and is widening the reach for CQN among the support.
We caused a little bit of controversy with the Statement from Celtic Supporters that appeared in the Sunday Herald. As mentioned at the end of last week, at that stage ASA had received 17 complaints re the advert. It is going to be interesting seeing how this pans out!
I also mentioned that the Statement was just the first initiative and that we decided to hold back until the semi-final was out of the way before moving things forward. Well the semi-final is now out of the way…

Michael Stewart was completely scathing of McCulloch for the elbow during the commentary. Making it perfectly clear that it’s not part of the game.
FourGreenFields. I expect that I will receive a similar reply about the state of the pitch. But I did say to them in my mail that I thought the SFA owned Hampden. So do they? Or could this be why they are confused about all issues on the south side because they also are not sure who owns what?
I did raise the issue about the performance of Thompson. Will that be forwarded to the Hampden bin men?
Guess I will need to contact the SPLF about elbows.
I have contacted my local MSP (SNP man) and a local Councillor (SNP man) about the failure of the police according to Bates and particularly FOCUS to hear any sectarian singing yesterday.

That is brilliant!!!
Cap doffed and video shared with all my fiends
B-)
Bit of the Manchurian Candidate mind games there Paul.
I will now be looking at the D.Utd Box expecting to see Thompson in the green Paddy power Y’s ,or even converted ? Zombie fan Lorraine Kelly, but that might be a bit of a stretch!!.
On game matters, well pleased with the win, could not be bothered I ever see them again
as all the usual stuff was evident.
Add to that a disgraceful surface and a referee, who in my opinion was acting on instruction to balance the books I.E. no controversial decisions, but in so doing created just that, but to our detriment.
Apparently The Compliance Officer Tony McGlennan is reviewing matters, not sure why Fleming is making comment as he is the Refereeing authority, as opposed to The Compliance Boss Andrew McKinlay Director of Football Governance and Regulations
no doubt they will ignore in order to get the fallout from the game out of the spotlight, add to that the selective editing of Sportscene last night and your into manipulation of facts.
BSR,
That’s the one thing Green didn’t buy “the bigotry from thems” he took his coin and left it back here.
The Brazen Head was targeted last night, only because the polis got the heads up it didn’t happen.

Good on you mate .
I assumed the HPL to which I was referred about the state of the pitch was Hampden Park Limited but had never heard of it before .
John Fleming replied to me saying the compliance officer had been informed , you can contact him on

Dunno what the “No Pope of Rome” song is about.
The last time I checked, there IS a pope in Rome.
But Rangers are still dead.
There’s a man
Going round
Taking names.
And he decides
Who to free
And who to blame.
Everybody won’t be treated all the same.
There’ll be a golden ladder reaching down,
When Scott Brown comes around. (thumbsup)
Re elbows assault on Griff & J G. I thot the plods were going to arrest people for unlawful behaviour??
Exchange of e-mail with Darryl this morning:
Good morning Darryl,
The SFA had the responsibility over the week-end to provide a suitable playing surface and good standard/competent referees, bearing in mind the Sunday match was televised to 54 countries, it did neither.
Many Scottish football supporters are asking the question, what exactly do the SFA add?
Regards
Hi John, you may not be aware that we, like the SPFL, have a rental agreement for Hampden Park. The stadium is owned and operated by Queen’s Park and Hampden Park Ltd respectively. I would advise you to contact them re pitch provision.
In terms of the match officials, what is your grievance in particular? With the exception of one or two instances – particularly not playing advantage in one instance – I believe the referee yesterday had a good game.
Darryl Broadfoot
Head of Communications
Scottish FA
Really Darryl? Did no one from the SFA actually inspected the pitch post Commonwealth Games until the semi final on Saturday?
I thought the refereeing was abysmal in both games, and yes, I was a qualified referee when younger.
Well, apart from the ridiculous refusal to play advantage you mentioned, how did Craig Thompson miss McCulloch smashing his elbow straight into Griffiths head?
Free kick awarded to Rangers in the ‘D’ when even the match pundits were incredulous that it should have been a Celtic free kick. That’s only a couple off the top of my head from the Celtic game, Aberdeen fans will have probably stronger points to make than mine about referee quality.
It’s not our semi final!!!!
They’re YOUR referee’s

The SFA basically messed up by ending Sevco’s signing embargo on 31st August 2013. This was a Saturday.
All of Europe stayed open until the Monday. If they had done the same it would have allowed Sevco to sign players without breaking the ban.
So they said it closed on the 31st as Saturday was a”working day”. Ahem.
This meant we could have lost players to English teams on the Monday with no way of replacing them.
If Saturday really is a”working day” then this window would have closed two days ago.
Ah woody Allens bananas
Anybody remember the girl bitten by the snake?

I’m glad you’re going for it, keep on keeping on mon ami!

Yesterday confirmed that Rangers are not the same but their supporters still cling to their culture.
It was effortless, easy and done in second gear at times. But for the pitch we could have been reading about 5 or 6 goals this morning.
I laughed at the comments from folk that thought the normal pace and frenetic nature would apply, that it was anyone’s game etc and form doesn’t come in to these games.
Having watched this new Rangers I knew they would struggle to get a shot and that is how it panned out.
Rangers having access to slightly more money in the scottish Premiership may allow them to improve their squad a bit but that is only if they untangle the financial spaghetti and get out of the Championship. On yesterday’s evidence and that of their previous games, they require to freshen up their team for a promotion push next season as I can’t see them beating Hibs, Falkirk etc in the play offs.
The longer they linger down there the less likely they are to come close to their natural level. Natural would be 2nd placed in the premiership. Thank goodness their fans won’t be seen in numbers again by us for a while.
If you were a Rangers supporter this morning where would you find hope? It can’t be because Dave King got on a plane.
I don’t like Woody Allen, but he was funny in “Cheers”. (thumbsup)
Sandy Easdale spotted in B & Q buying cement, sand and a roll of barbed wire, new boots and panties for the Sevco team:))))
Connaire12
The SFA don’t own Hampden; it’s owned by a private company ( a cosy deal that was completed when the stadium was being redeveloped) and the SFA have a lease in place to use the stadium until 2020.
I hope an alternative option is found after that. I hate Hampden. You have to walk through muddy wasteland to get there and you get a rubbish view no matter where you are in the ground.
I came home from the game yesterday thinking that commons goal was from 12 yards and that Lustig had put in the cross for the first goal.
I was directly behind the centre of the goal at the Celtic end and you need binoculars to see what’s happening at the other end of the ground.
Hampden is not fit for purpose.
“A change in seating allocation will cause ‘confusion and inconvenience’ to thousands.” Really? In what way? Are you suggesting that fans are so stupid they can’t check their ticket and go to the appropriate turnstile?
And what has the Pope of Rome got to do with anything? If you think that was the only ‘offensive’ song sung yesterday, then you’re as guilty of the selective hearing that you are accusing others of.
I suppose that after such a lacklustre semi-final you feel the need to pad out these articles with something, but this was dross.

Just dont think it gets the respect it deserves to be honest.. fist pumping or waving a football scarf while singing it isn’t how it should be done.
Iv been guilty of it meself
And the pope line.. nah not for me.
No big deal just my opinion.
the glorious balance sheet – We don’t need a national stadium. Glasgow already has a world-class stadium in the East End.
The SFA should simply lease it for international games, and alternate with Murrayfield and Pittodrie to give fans around the country the chance of seeing a Scotland game close to where they live. (thumbsup)
