Words are easy, so are actions

After yesterday’s discussion on values, what we’re all about and where we’re going, today’s announcement by the Foundation that they will have a badge day at the Dundee United game on 11 May is something that requires us to step forward and do something about.

“Volunteers will be in place at all turnstile areas and supporters will be asked to make a donation of minimum £1 in return for a badge, which illustrates the new Celtic FC Foundation crest.  All monies raised on the day will support our work challenging homelessness in the Glasgow area.”

I’m going to volunteer.  You should too.  It will mean getting to the game a wee bit earlier but it will also mean you can look those values we all preach in the eye.  Words are easy but on this occasion, so are actions.  Let’s do it.

I’ll find out how you volunteer and report back soon.

Having read Hugh Keevins ramblings earlier the guy has either completely lost the plot or he is trying to ensure that the rage on his phone in show is from Celtic supporters not Deidco or Newco fans.

An eejit of the highest order. Comparing Stein to McMoist is like comparing McMoist to Al Pacino in the acting profession.

If the Record had any brains they would retire the poor fella.

  2. Livibhoy (and Tamrabam with apologies for not noticing my phone’s predictive text took over).

It turns out from a quick response from the SLO that Celtic are looking at the matter of easing travel to Murrayfield, but see the merit in the suggestion of using post codes to bring folks together, particularly in these days of easy contact.

It would take a dedicated project to set something up but I’m thinking using Google Maps to identify supporter related boundaries and Celtic acting in some way as facilitators to change Celtic supporters from strangers to friends who have not met yet.

On a wider basis I think that the CSA, CST, Blogs , GB, Kano type initiatives etc all offer a service to each other and the support as a whole and that Celtic, with the data glue to provide cohesion, could play a greater role as facilitators.

But first we must get rid of the mad idea of its them and us. An idea that is not peculiar to just one side, but one on which I have observed a great deal of movement on Celtic’s side since I first tunnelled my way in 4 years ago (without realising it btw).

BB05 what makes you think an independent Scotland will tackle Scotland’s shame? All the signs are that it will quite the reverse and the majority will ensure that the minority’s position is undermined at every turn.

Next thing the will hide or lose all the statistics that show attacks on Catholics…….oh wait…..

Agree it’s a great idea. Information must be up to date and collection points must be clearly stipulated for CSC’s. That can sometimes change at late notice. Especially with changes to game days and kick off times. It should not be discounted though. I recko0n what would be required is some kind of forum with contact details.

    Town

    Country

    Bus name/Car contact

    Time of departure

    Time of arrival

    Time of return

Our CSC use Facebook for this nowadays but I don;t feel it is updated enough. I learned very quickly that if you expect your members to be comitted to the CSC you must at all times appear organised and professional. One slip up like a bus not turning up and you can lose them in droves.

How you keep a databse and how you vet people to get access is the key here.

Do only season ticket holders get access and use their ST number to log in?

Do you have email addresses to contact people or is it an interactive forum type of databse where people can ask questions?

It’s a great idea but needs thought out thoroughly.

It would be great if it was a forum type thing and if the bus has been moved the driver can text one person and he can update the convener who in turn can update the forum to let his members know. With the WiFi installed at Paradise this should be pretty straight forward. I know not everyone has access to the internet but even if 50% had access it would provide a decent portal to the users who do and they can pass the message on to others. It would also provide a service to people who have missed their bus. It has happened to me in the past. I’ve had to run about looking for another CSC travelling east. This was obviously before the improved rail links to Livingston. being able to pin point another CSC travelling east would be useful and they may not have left yet and provide a lift home.

There are many options to this idea and the car sharing is probably more useful for away matches when tickets are scarce. Certainly worth thinking about.

One thing to bear in mind though. There are around 6 CSC’s in the Livingston area for 1 reason. Not everyone gets on too well with each other. There are always fall outs and the way one group run a CSC is different from others and it can cause arguments. I have seen it many times in the past. It has never bothered me. I don;t get involved. I go to watch Celtic not argue over where the sweep money should be going or whether there should be a fitba card. Drink is an issue as well. Some CSC’s allow drink and some don’t. That can be an issue and cause arguments.

In saying all that I still think it’s a cracking idea. I think it needs to be looked at in detail and scoped out probably in association with the supporters groups and maybe even a survey among the Season Ticket holders.

What’s important here is that Celtic are thinking about the fans which is what we want. I don;t think the fans expect to be consulted on everything but they want to be involved and feel valued by the club. If the club can help the fans then that should be applauded too.

Wish them well with this one because it appears to be a step in the right direction to helping supporters cut down the rising transport costs and dare I say make us greener in the environmental sense of the word.

Can you be specific on what it will be like for us please?

  22. We have been progressing with the idea that Doc mentions above.

We have sold a few advertising pages today and plan to try to sell some more. If anyone wishes to help in that then please let us know. (david@CQNMagazine.com).

We are going to produce a booklet – similar to the CQTEN programme for those who were at the event – only with more pages.

We will distribute these before the remaining three home games. We will print 10,000 copies.

We will try to achieve the following:

    1) Introduce more supporters to CQN and encourage more people to try to get their Celtic news online.

    2) Promote the new edition of CQN Magazine which is packed with pro- Celtic content and is available for FREE.

    3) Promote the Seville book which is currently among the top selling books in Scotland. Many supporters won’t even know about this book.

    4) Feature the Lions re the forthcoming celebrations in Lisbon and the new books from Tommy Gemmell and John Hughes, both of which are excellent.

There will be snippets from the books, some chat from Paul and BRTH about the blog and the magazine. It will also look great.
