Working the globe with Bernabei

298

Alexandro Bernabei was finally announced as a Celtic player by former club, Lunas, in the early hours of this morning.  At 21, the left back is the same age Greg Taylor was when he joined the club in 2019.

The environment Alexandro worked in at Lanus could hardly be more different than what he walks into at Celtic.  Lunas won only three of the last 20 league games their former defender played in, including his final game, which saw Alexandro red carded.  The pressure to win was significantly less than in Glasgow.

That factor possibly permits young talent more scope to flourish; teams stuck somewhere in the no man’s land that is lower midtable of a 26-team league, need not stress about winning or losing too much.  Even relegation is a multi-year process in Argentina, no one season alone can put you down.

One year before Alexandro’s contract expired, the reported £3.75m fee is a discount on the money Lanus earned when selling a central defender to Parma last year for €10m, or a midfielder to Atlanta for €6m in 2020.  Hopefully that discount is due more to the expiring contract than any perception of the player’s prospects.

Welcome to Celtic, Alexandro!  There is a lot of hard work ahead, but it is great to see Celtic work the globe to fine value.  Contrast with the days we travelled the M8 to find Chris Killen could scarcely be greater.

To even things up a bit …

I could start posting screeds about politics — constuctivist / collectivist / progressive politics not identity / Nat politics — and challenge P67 to a debate on amortisation.

    Would that work?

Yogi´s goal against Leeds in the semi final at Hampden might have had something to do with him playing ahead of Harry Hood in Milan 1970.

  3. Bernabei said ” Es una locura “, referring to the atmosphere inside Celtic Park.

So he is saying “It´s madness”. He´s not saying “la gente esta loca”, that the supporters are crazy.

    Actually makes a difference.

I am glad our new player was allowed to express himself in his own language and luckily that limited the number of staple diet questions that the celtic tv interviewers throw at you. I was particularly impressed with his final salute – ARRIBA CELTIC

Who are the players signing new terms?

Can’t find it on the club site.

    But JS changed things up.

He played a 3 man MF in the ECSF’s and reverted to a 2 man MF in the ECF — not good.

    The old 4 — 1 — 5 formation.

Even with 5 forwards on show HH still couldn’t make it into the team.

Maybe JS was playing with inverted FB’s 50 years ahead of AP?

Could I suggest it’s the language you used that caused offence.

Perhaps you should try to expand your vocabulary.

Listening to some good old fashioned English poetry might help.

    You could start with this.

  9. We are a centre half short of two players for each position at the back being in place. I’m not used to this!!

If I was being really fussy I’d like us to sign a player who could be utilised in an emergency to play across the back.

If we get Jota in the door and a quality CDM I’ll be delighted with the transfer business. Perhaps we need more than that but I’ll leave that to the experts.

Is big Carl fit to train when the international players get back to Lennoxtown? Saw a video of him kicking a ball on the beach. Hope that’s a good sign.

Looking forward to the close season games and seeing what Ange can do with the squad with time and relative calm. Exciting times.

  10. Bada,

I have no idea.To get in a CH of that calibre now, more than 7 million.

Now,I ask you,Do you not think Jullien is a good CH?.

  12. I’ve said this before and seeing us head for another ST sellout (well done all !), we don’t make use of the Ticket Exchange route. People pay a small premium to sit on a waiting list that looks like it doesn’t deliver, so why not operate this to a) keep the crowd high and b) allow ST holders to get money in exchange and c) create more value.

The in-laws use it at Arsenal all the time and it works. Why not at Celtic? The technology is there.

Here’s a wee video showing what it means:

  13. Guys if Big Chris J is not fit to pass a medical how can he be fit to play with us?

I like the big fella as a player I think he has a touch of class about him…..but. No in fact Let’s leave it there.

If he gets fit and Ange uses him then he has my backing but maybe Ange wants rid of him for a reason.

I may or may not let others use my ticket when I’m not over but I can’t categorically say

The Dublin Celtic shop is not closed it’s in the Jervis Street Shopping Centre. You might be referring to the Derry shop which closed a number of years ago

    ——

Celtic announced it was closing; might just not have done it yet

  16. Coneybhoy,

Looking at some of our home games under the sellout banner and there are gaps everywhere we could be making better use of as a seller and buyer….

I’m also sick of match tickets in the kids section next to the worst of Scotland’s underclass visiting their hate for a day……

Cheers St Stivs – anything that adds colour to the big painting in my head of that game is most welcome.

The St Etienne game was also a cracker- coming back from 0-2 in the first leg.

TB- thanks for reply, i do like Jullien, but never thought he punched his weight,£7 million a big outlay,i think we could get the Japanese boy at Man City for similar, as i said, CJ is a bad apple, and barely had a look in under AP,he would have known a while ago he was needing replaced.

I agree with you , great idea. Arsenal tickets are extortionate BTW

I worked briefly with a young consultant years ago who went on to be a business manager at Arsenal (his team). He was smart lad so maybe his idea.

His boss went to barca or milan and he went with him

    I’m still here…………….

  20. Coneybhoy,

£85 a ticket fella. Extortionate. I’d expect to play at that price.

Wee research shows Edinburgh rugby have a ticket exchange in place from last season…

What do you expect when they’ve got a stadium and a very fancy website to pay for? ;)

I’ve used the ticket exchange on the Spurs website quite a few times in the past couple of years and every time it’s been excellent, but it’s the sort of technology that doesn’t come cheap. I don’t think the club takes any money for reselling the seat so the cost will go on the season ticket price for everyone.

It’s just a service that’s included in your very expensive season ticket at Spurs
