World class deficit of self-awareness

1194

The word of the day is anosognosia, def. a deficit of self-awareness.

While discussing his Fit and Proper examination by the SFA, Dave King told the media that “If the level of detail that was applied to me was applied to Craig Whyte then he would never have taken over the club.  The club would have had a chance.”

It was Dave King’s job to examine Craig Whyte’s Fit and Proper status, not the SFAs!!!  Dave King was on the board which approved Whyte’s takeover.  The SFA were not and should not have been involved in determining the suitability of Whyte’s appointment, which was the exclusive responsibility of the Rangers board.

The SFA subsequently sanctioned the club for failing to carry out its duty in this respect.

Let’s look at that quote again and allocate responsibility:

“If the level of detail that was applied to me was applied to Craig Whyte [by me, when it was my job to do so]then he would never have taken over the club.  The club would have had a chance.”

There is no Fit and Proper test.  Criteria are published to allow clubs to determine the suitability of appointments.  Whyte did not meet the suitability required.  If anyone on the Rangers board had taken the trouble to check Whyte’s credentials (which they had a fiduciary and SFA obligation to do so), and informed the SFA of their findings, Craig Whyte would have been stopped in his tracks.

A note to my friends in the media:

Guys, ignoring stuff like this is why people said you were compliant with Whyte, Green and Murray.  Don’t come back a year from now and say you didn’t know.

Dave King is a gift.  You know what he’s going to do, you know how this ends.

Walk for Tony

As most of you will know, RWE lost his son, Tony Conway, earlier this year to MND.  12 of Tony’s friends are walking 100km tomorrow and Sunday, from London to Brighton.  If any CQN’ers are local, they’re looking for moral support more than money, so here’s the route they’re taking.  They start on Twickenham Road at 9:40 tomorrow morning, hoping to reach Brighton around 7:00 on Sunday.

Tony appears to have inspired a lot of people, which is a none too shabby legacy.

It’s season ticket Deadline Day!!

  1. I still don’t see why Whyte would have failed a FPP test – his directors disqualification was spent 4 years prior to the acquisition of the rotting corpse and if the Markets allowed him to be a director, what grounds would the football authorities (or rather, the club) have in barring him?

The guidelines are so vague in this regard that (former) tax fraudsters, etc, are quite easily found fit and proper, so not having a pot to piddle in aside, what objective grounds would there have been for Craigy Bhoy to be barred 4 years ago?

The media also know this but again willfully ignore the undeniable fact that the only thing that could have prevented Whyte taking up his seat in the directors box was the distaste at having a repeated failure of a businessman – or successful asset-stripper, take your pick – climb the marble staircase.

Unfortunately for them, they’d already painted a Mona Lisa atop a sow’s lug of a canvas and therefore could not publicise such distaste (read warning).

SMSM are very happy to peddle this FPP myth, not so much out of helping Dave King via his PR team, but more to cover their own shortcomings – it’s an easy thing to blame someone already convicted in the court of public opinion rather than look in the mirror.

  2. Oh and I disagree, “withholding money”,”damaging the club” is quite a bit more than go on go on and I think you know that.

  3. Of course I did, I smile a lot on here even at myself battering my head against the brick wall.

But “our finances are the envy of world football”….he definitely is a GSL of the highest order…

Apply the same logic to renewing season tickets, don’t let other clubs influence renewing your ST but you might have to give up your seat or pay more if another club are in the SPFL, double standards ?

We’ll go back to my initial point, what you actually said was

“Withholding my money” that is not encouraging any one to do anything is it ?

What exactly do you mean by it ?

    ………..,…

Careless choice of words from me obviously. Just forget I mentioned your name in my post. You’ve obviously got the bit between your teeth on this one. I’ve made my decision.

Totally agree. We have an expectation that the media are duty-bound to examine issues impartially and arrive at fair and rational conclusions. However, their motivation is to sell stuff which is why we will never get anything other than faux controversy in football.

sell our ST’s in the normal manner,if Sevco come up,give them the same area as Aberdeen get,2,300 approx.Wouldn’t it be ironic ,after all the messing about of our own fans,if Sevco boycotted CP ,for whatever reason?

  13. Theoriginalsadiesbhoy,

I respect your decision it just sticks in my craw the language being used, one season without season tickets will do one thing only, it will tell the board to change direction, it will neither damage or destroy the club, if anything it will make the club stronger because it will remind the board who they are responsible to.

King has to give a positive spin to the Rangers situation he has to get the huns to buy season tickets and shares in the club.If they get into the SPL next season he will fet his required season ticket sales but the huns have not been to keen on share issues in the past. I dont think the Rangers are as far behind us as they should be and I believe either complacency or complicity is the reason. H.H.

  18. jg,

I’d much rather be completely wrong, which is why I advocate one season being enough, a shot across the bow. Problem being, this season I expect Celtic park to be full of old firm supporters, exactly what the board hoped for, dilute the faithful, lost opportunity.

I beg to differ on your unwarranted assault on the shining bright blue knight,Mr King.

With particular reference to borrowing £1.5m yesterday.

Mr King personally pumped in £1.5m to his clumpany only yesterday.

It’s all here in a Daily Record headline. So it must be true.

  20. I don’t expect there to be a rise in attendances when the zombies get into the SPFL.

There are far more complicated reasons why attendances have dropped. It’s not down to the Old Firm myth.

  26. I would just like to go and support Celtic when I can, no matter who we are playing and no matter who else is playing in our league. No matter what country they are from. I just want to go and support my club when I can.

Noone complains when we play teams from countries who have a crap human rights records or whose teams are continually getting done for match fixing, for example.

I am sure there are some folk who are like that.

But there are other issues that attract people to the pub. We still can’t get served alcohol during the game, any atmosphere is being suppressed by the cops, drink is relatively cheap in the pubs, the quality on the pitch is perceived as being poorer, the weather is miserable, people in Glasgow are still suffering a Tory government, rubbish kick-off times due to TV companies.
