Write your own headlines as Celtic work below radar

1442

Peter Lawwell told Sky Sports he’ll not be rushed into making an appointment.  Football goes on holiday for the next few weeks as players, managers and (under normal circumstances) CEOs kick back before minds turn to preseason and transfers.  Even if Celtic appoint a manager tomorrow, his plans for next season will progress little in the immediate future, but the task is being addressed with some urgency.

The best insight I can offer is that the bookies and media know Sweet Fanny Ally about what is going on.  Know that when Celtic start to talk to a candidate, the first thing they will insist on is radio silence, so if the aspiring manager is talking to a jouno, chances are he’s not talking to Celtic.  The club will attempt to do as much work below radar as possible, but between now and the day of an appointment, newspapers will splash their latest ‘favourite’ to get the job over their covers in an attempt to get you buy.  You’d be better picking your own candidates and writing your own headlines.

I’m going to wallow a bit in European glory tonight.  All those photos of the Lions back in Lisbon has been inspiring.  What great man, what a great history they’ve given us.

I’ll put it in as you worded but suggest we are more likely to be informed if we knew what the vision was first.

I was in a pub in the west end when lenny did walk in alone, but he did have a couple of serious looking blokes watching for trouble around him. That’s not a life and good luck to him.

    He did a grand job.HH

I did not see Frank McGarvie on STV the other night, (not too well received on here) but earlier that evening he had been on Radio 5 and made the very same points.

Agree.I’m quite optimistic about next season and the CL qualifiers. However,we need to move fast and appoint a good manager and ,if players like FF,VVD wont to go to the EPL then move them on and reinvest.

It seems that Owen Coyle is the favoured one. My choice, Stevie Clark looks as if he is out of the running.

    Pity!

Well we have a pretty good idea of what Neil’s vision was, because he told us. What we don’t know, is what Peter Lawwell’s is. Or was.

To sustain free prescriptions, free bus passes for the over 60s and other laudable initiatives such as no university fees, in the event of a September ‘Yes’ vote can anyone give me an idea what rate of income tax will be required? Can it be done on the 20p standard rate that currently exists or will it require a rise in the standard rate and, if so, roughly how much.

I would also like further information on the newly independent Scottish Government’s plans for old age pensions. These are set to significantly increase in 2016 for new pensioners in the UK. Will these plans be maintained or will the new Scottish Government have other plans. I would like information on what these plans are.

Can anyone help me with information on these issues?

When you refer to Peter Lawwell do you mean “the board” or is he somehow allowed to run Celtic as he sees fit with no recourse to anyone?

  10. Just to explain… The serious blokes were waiting on Lenny arriving by the look of it, to take care if there was trouble.

As said befor, good luck in your next job…a hunskelper extraordinare.

Exactly. I have heard it spoken before and it is in the lines of to be a world class club.

What I think is needed is an articulation of how we hope to do that which is on a number of business fronts, football being the core business on which everything else depends.

As Doc suggested the other night there may be some objectives that might harm them e.g ” I’m Celtic In A hostile jungle get me out here” , but there are others that could be set out so that we manage expectations and can measure success.

I could be wrong here, but I think the title Chief Executive might give us a clue. Do I think the Board sold Neil’s players? No.

I mentioned a little while back that BT, who have invested heavily in Rugby Union as well as football, are in negotiations to sponsor Murrayfield, £5 million pa has been muted. They may well benefit from Celtic playing there. That is one possibility, though the Emirates sponsorship went across the other side of the London Road. Very clever marketing that, vicarious.

    25 May, 2014……..

    Thanks for the reply.

For the record, I imagine that I am one of the happiest of clappers.

To over simplify things, I would suggest a strategy that allows for one bad year.

That is, we don’t qualify for the UCL and life goes on. For that, we need top notch scouting – and a reserve.

All else being equal, the manager should know what his budget is likely to be. Something along the lines of 2/3 of the money from player sales, and 50% of the UCL money.

That would allow the Club to build a reserve as mentioned above.

I think that hoping to make the Group Stages is a mistake. Spend a chunk of the annual budget to give us the best chance of qualifying.

As for declining domestic revenues, we are in a tough spot. Posters on here are developing a serious hatred for the executive level of the Club – seemingly due to the Club not doing enough to ensure that ‘Rangers’ were really ‘dead’.

On the other hand, people are staying away, many of whom are saying there is no competition.

I would add that waiting for Aberdeen or the likes to really compete with us in the league, well, it will be a very long wait. One which will require us dropping to their level more so than the other way round.

So, while we seem to be very much on the same page, I would say that we should focus on August, and Christmas will take care of itself.

  22. Billy bhoy 05 you criticising ernie for not answering questions is hilarious. Given your desire to drive anyone who votes for the union out of the country after independence.

Twist and turns. On whether those who want to get anti Catholicism tackled should back independence or not. Here’s my take.

The general consensus is that things have slowly gotten better. I am unsure because I believe the influence from the rest of the UK and EU has merely driven the sectarianism a bit underground. However at least it did that.

However since the SNP got in we have seen the mask slip somewhat. The OB act proves the underlying view here. An act designed to outlaw aspects of Catholicism. Add to that focus and the mysterious loss of sectarian attack data and you see where an independent Scotland would go.

    ———————————–

Specifically the unelected quango’s whose funding is approximately one third of all Scottish government expenditure.

You can also add Scotland’s senior law officers who are appointed not elected. I am not saying that this is wrong or unusual but it is true.
