SHAMBOLIC Scotland collapsed to an embarrassing 3-0 UEFA Nations League play-off second leg defeat to Greece at a shell-shocked Hampden tonight.
Steve Clarke’s men saw their one-goal advantage thanks to Scott McTominay’s penalty-kick on Thursday obliterated in an x-certificate performance in front of 49,000 disbelieving fans at the national stadium.
Anthony Ralston made his 20th appearance for the international team, but, alas, it was not a memorable occasion for the Celtic right-back.
DOUBLE TROUBLE…Konstantinos Karetsas leaves Grant Hanley standing as he makse it 2-0 for Greece at a stunned Hampden.
Kieran Tierney also came off the substitutes’ bench in the 55th minute, but by then it was already too late for a salvage job as the team disappeared in a maze of mistakes.
Scotland actually started enterprisingly with McTominay coming close on two occasions in the first 10 minutes – a low angled drive pushed away by the keeper and another that was diverted just past the right-hand post.
But the visitors turned the match on its head in the 20th minute when Giannis Konstantelios fired the Greeks ahead and levelled the tie on aggregate.
There was more misery for the hosts two minutes from the interval when Konstaninos Karetsas curled No.2 beyond the stranded Craig Gordon.
And it was all over within 20 seconds of the restart when some remarkably sloppy play allowed Christos Tzolis to rifle the third goal into the net with the keeper again left exposed.
