All week I’ve been telling myself that it is a healthy thing that discriminatory chanting has come under the spotlight prior to Euro 2012. The world needs to focus on those who are unable to find an outlet for their testosterone without picking on the vulnerable.
We know all about discriminatory chanting in Scotland, you could say, we’re up to our knees in it, so I’ve been slightly uncomfortable at the tone to some of the reporting about Poland and Ukraine. It feels a bit like we’ve decided, ‘They have it too, let’s talk about them. Not us’. When I say “us”, I don’t mean you, of course.
Fair enough, I thought, let’s bring this issue out, but at the start of the second half between Netherlands and Denmark when BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce reported “We haven’t heard any racist comments here today. Not when the young, black, Dutch left back got the ball, or at any other time” I figured this is more about xenophobia than racism. Xenophobia about Eastern Europe.
We’re no wiser about how to deal with our testosterone-fuelled under-achievers with a purpose to find than anyone else. In fact, we’re worse for allowing our intellectuals to indulge in the last refuge of the scoundrel.
My money is on the Polish and Ukrainian fans emerging from this tournament with a better reputation than some of their Western European counterparts.

As you are around mate I was at Hampden yesterday afternoon at an event hosted by Character Scotland. Something I’d never heard of previously but revealed to me again what goes on in child development that is to an extent hidden from view.
Inspire/Aspire was the theme. Lots of teachers from Primary and Secondary schools, pupils, parents and friends.
Fair play to her Liz McColgan was inspirational in the talk she gave. My younger daughter picked up an Achievement Award that you can pick up on the website and to cap it off the Olympic Torch arrived during the presentation.
No sign of Ogilvie and Regan of course.
Inspire/Aspire for youngsters on their home turf and they couldn’t be arsed, Pretty much sums them up.
Umpteen images of The 4 horsemen:

Am I the only one reading the Terry/Hodgson situation differently? Didn’t the FA strip Terry of the captaincy leading to Capello’s resignation?
My take on it is that Hodgson has chosen Terry over Ferdinand (as he can’t have both) as he believes the racist to be a better player.
I think talk of Hodgson being a “yes man” to the FA are is being overly kind to the manager.
Why would the FA insist on Terry’s inclusion after they stripped him of the captaincy? Maybe I have missed something…
Agree with posters pointing out the rank hypocrisy of English commentators sneering congratulations at the host fans for managing to sit for 90 minutes without doing what John Terry does when he is on the pitch. Even more pathetic is their hiding behind the “innocent until proven guilty” smokescreen. There is TV footage of him yelling “Ya black @:+_”. Anton Ferdinand heard it, I saw it, we all saw it.
The huns dead yet?
Anyone going to the Ajax game? :)
Apologies for shrikin’ the page…..

Thank you all for the photo links, now have a screensaver.
This commentator + Lawrenson are a complete pair of lying clowns
They just tried to claim Schweinsteiger stamped on Moutinho when he did nothing of the sort
Their hatred of the Germans shines through
Awe Naw
The sawdust comment was my attempt at being self effacing :-))

Yep I’ve heard of it mate, really worthwhile work they do highlighting the achievements of the children. Promotes self esteem and helps identify their strengths. Well done to your daughter buddy.
One armed waiters… they can take it but they cant dish it out
I think it was more list your top 5 English defenders, Terry and Rio would be near the top for most people yet Rio never made the squad, because of football reason according to Roy. You then have a defender pull out and still Rio doesn’t get called up because of football reasons according to Roy. Alarm bells have to start ringing.

I might but it depends who we draw in Europe.
