A REPORT and an image of Yang Hyun-jun that stated Celtic’s South Korean winger was on the verge of signing for Norwich City have been exposed as FAKE.
A picture of the Hoops wide Bhoy apparently in the yellow shirt of the Canaries had been doctored by AI with the story to follow a figment of the imagination of someone in the player’s homeland.
The photo is blurred almost beyond recognition, but was widely shared on X while the original South Korean-focused report claimed the image had been provided by a source and showed “Yang Hyun-jun filmed w/ the Canaries.”
The post has since been deleted and the account’s operator has posted an apology for not properly verifying the source.
FAKE…Yang Hyun-jun allegedly in a Norwich City shirt as he prepares to sign for the Championship club.
One Scottish national newspaper, which we won’t identify to spare their blushes, rushed the tale into print, but the page is now ‘unavailable’ on their site after being hastily removed.
Another South Korean media outlet also debunked the so-called ‘exclusive’ photo and story.
Yang is NOT in East Anglia, he is NOT about to sign for the English second-tier side, but he IS part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad which is poised to take off for Como for tomorrow night’s 7.45pm kick-off against Ajax.
The 23-year-old flanker, who netted the Hoops’ third goal in the 4-0 win over Newcastle United at Parkhead at the weekend, has been linked with the Carrow Road club in this transfer window.
Last week, Rodgers, speaking in a report in CQN, admitted: “There’s been a little bit of interest in Yang, but he’s been a good squad player for us.”
The champions have already allowed Honduran international outside-left Luis Palma to join Lech Poznan on loan for the season while Australia’s Marco Tilio in on the brink of a move to Rapid Vienna.
Nicolas Kuhn, of course, has also been sold for £17.2million to Serie A outfit Como.
It’s now up to the manager to decide if he can let another wide Bhoy leave in this window without adequate cover.
Yang, though, was impressive against Eddie Howe’s Premier League stars and may have done enough to prove to Rodgers there is worth in keeping him at Celtic.
