You are in Scotland, wise up

Glasgow and Edinburgh have four stadiums with a capacity of 50,000 people or more: Murrayfield, Hampden, Celtic Park and Ibrox.  Hampden will be under lease to Uefa at the time of the Scottish Cup Final on 22 May.  This arrangement permits games to take place but prohibits fans from attending.

The Scottish Government (I’m not a fan, but to their credit), would almost certainly permit fans to attend, as their example-setters in London have already indicated they would do the same before that date.  Given this opportunity to have thousands of fans at a showpiece game, if you were in charge of the SFA you would move it from Hampden to Celtic Park, Ibrox, Murrayfield (my preference).  If necessary, you would move it to Cliftonhill to permit “the lifeblood of the game” to be in attendance.

However, you are not in charge of the SFA.  Given a choice between holding the Cup Final with fans at another venue, or holding it at an empty Hampden, the Association decided on the latter option.  These people!

Five Newco players were caught, red handed, breaking restrictions on Valentine’s Day.  They are free to face Celtic on Scottish Cup duty next weekend, nine weeks later.  Thanks to the SFA, suspensions will kick in days later.  Celtic broke zero restrictions in January, but rules were changed on-the-fly by the aforementioned Scottish Government, forcing Celtic to play two games at a critical time of the season without 16 players.

Don’t try to wreck your brain looking for fairness or consistency here, you’re in Scotland, wise up.

If that’s true that’s brilliant. Well done.

    Quick golf story

I’ve had 3 holes in one

First time at Gleddoch, par 3 over a pond 7th hole. When I done it my 2 playing companions wanted to go straight to the clubhouse to celebrate. I had £2 on me and managed to persuade them to play on. Thank god. 2 boozebags, it would have cost me a mortgage.

My second was at Williamwood. 195 downhill par 3. Playing with my youngest son. Cos I’d done it before it wasn’t the biggest deal to me. First is always best, anyway, as it dropped in the hole I kept my composure, slowly turned to my son and said, “have you ever seen that before?”

He was jumping about like a dafty…so was I….inside

My 3rd was at the 2nd hole at HAGGS castle. I was playing on my own. I actually duffed my shot and it landed on the apron but rolled about 20 yards and into the hole. I looked around and there wasn’t a soul in sight to verify it. Now if that was my one and only hole in one who would believe it?

    Well done!

Mind you someone posted on here recently they had been golfing for two years and their handicap was………………………………..wait for it…………………….PLUS 16!

    Holy moly!

  5. Not sure if I agree that the `old guys` should not be allowed at The Masters. I can see the point but I feel it is another of the aspects that makes the event a wee bit special.

    Incorrect

The Augusta National Golf Club respect their past Masters Champions and all have a lifetime exemption.

I dare say none of the people you mention think they’re going to win the tournament. If you have an issue with them being there then take it up with the Augusta National Golf Club.

  7. Exactly. They are never going to win the competition, so why deny some up and coming guys a chance.

  8. FrankTerry at half eight. Thanks for posting that video of Anton’s goal . One of my favourite goals against them even better it was so scrappy . I wonder if Anton never scored if the ref would have given a penalty for Woods pulling down Gerry Creaney .

    St Tams

Augusta National would call it tradition.

Some of their other traditions are a bit ropey, though

  10. An Tearmann , 9.31. It’s strange no Celtic players in that list of candidates for player of the year 1980/81. I never got to many games that season as I worked in a Presto supermarket on Saturdays. What I do remember is from games I went to and highlights I saw , Davie Provan , Frank McGarvey , Nicholas , Tommy Burns and Murdo Macleod played really well that season. Nicholas won young player of the year I think.

We won the league in the middle of April at Tannadice , an absolutely brilliant night with Tommy scoring a tremendous goal in our 3 2 win.

Good night all , sleep well.

We need someone to fight our corner and not be cowed.

My concern apart from volatility, would be the possible concern of family movement as RK seems a home bird.

If there is a Celtic match with a minutes silence for a royal but no Celtic fans are present, can journalists still hear some coughing?

we all know the answer to that lol

  14. HOTSMOKED & 31003 – nice holes-in-one stories.

My first was at a Par3 at Dukes course in St Andrews – best strike I’ve ever hit and good for it all the way.

Second: Cathcart Castle (uphill Par 3); sklaffed it off the sole but it scrambled up all the way into the pot.

I gave my clubs to local charity shop years ago as I decided gowf is a totally do-ma-head-in exercise.

A good walk spoiled, for sure.

Any progress update from the team psychologist we hired mid season??

    Squire Danaher

    Are you serious?

Ok, first thing tomorrow I’ll put pen to paper and write to the Masters committee and, I’ll ask them to pass it on to the patrons also.

    Dear Sirs….

My point is….the likes of Lyle…Woosnam and the rest are taking up 1 each of spaces in a tournament that they and everyone else knows they can’t win. The officials of the Augusta National, back in the day, awarded winners lifetime admission to the Masters tournament as a token gesture which they were happy for able golfers to take up. Never thinking for one moment that geriatric golfers would continually abuse the gesture to the omission of deserved golfers who could still make a mark.

Being awarded a doctorate by a university for contributions to acting doesn’t make you a real doctor. If you think the likes of Lyle and Woosnam and co deserve to be there at the exclusion of an able golfer then you know nothing about golf as a sport. Lyle and fellow veterans should restrict themselves to playing the champions tour events and leave the real tournaments to golfers that can compete

  16. It is right and proper that celtic have called our the SFA on the Ibrox Covid farce – we will of course get fobbed off with a mealy-mouthed answer. Let’s be clear it has been allowed to drag on because there has been no Sturgeon & Swinney fanning the flames – we had the full weight of the SNP cult against us at two crucial times in the season.

Were these interventions the reason we surrendered our 10iar dream? Only partly.

Our football department had retained the entire squad from our title-winning season. We had spent £20m on adding to that squad.

Our management and players let us down very very badly – this must not be forgotten. Say what you like about other seasons over the last nine years – talk about missed opportunities – about certain players not signed….however this season was NOT about the major shareholder, nor, the CEO, nor, the board of directors.

  17. Supposing the deal is done but contractually Eddie Howe is not free to take up his duties officially until June 1.

That would be a viable reason that there is no announcement from Celtic.

If it is the case, EH will be able to arrange his affairs, assess prospective players & staff without being hounded by the media, with every story beginning with “the new Celtic manager”

I am only supposing…however it seems plausible enough….at least it’s a welcome change from the “Lawwell”s ******* it up” brigade.

  18. In light of events in the UK, we all know this week will be a good time ‘to bury bad news’.

Could be football, brexit or COVID. Keep your eyes peeled, Celts

  19. SQUIRE

I know Masters winners get a lifetime exception.

    Time for change.

It wouldn’t be the first time the people who run this competition changed their rules.

This mob were dragged into the late 20th century kicking and screaming.

However, there is not a racist among them now.

    My arse.

    …………..

As for Aintree the last couple of days, I backed a 15/2 Winner and a 9/1 Winner, and a winner at 2/1 ( early Price) on Friday.

I am going for the Irish in the Grand National, so I have backed Two Horses…MINELLA TIMES and BURROWS LAD.

The Female Irish Jockey Rachel Blackmore MIGHT have a good day Today, as she has FOUR Mounts….so Ive also backed her horses in an ” Lucky 15″.

She is on Minella Times in the National…are we about to see a Female Jockey win the Race ?

    LOL.

  22. BIG JIMMY

    Good morning!

Do you need to open an account with a bookie to place a bet on the National today?

I take it the betting shops are closed.

  23. All the ‘so-called’ younger players “who can win the Masters”, to a man, are 100% in favour of previous winners having automatic qualification. Playing with the great champions they idolised as they were growing up is a massive privilege & bonus.

Unlike football, rugby & tennis etc, golf is a game that can be played, and played well, even though one is not in top athletic condition.

Let’s cut out the golf euthanasia nonsense.
