You can feel the hurt as Thompson disses Celtic

STEVEN THOMPSON reckons Inverness Caley Thistle are a more attractive proposition than four-in-a-row champions Celtic.

The skipper of relegated St Mirren heaped praise on the Highlanders and boss John Hughes ahead of the Hampden crunch against Falkirk on Saturday.

Thompson, 36, insisted: “It’s been an unbelievable year for Inverness – first time finishing third in the league, first time qualifying for Europe and a Scottish Cup Final to look forward to.

“I think they’ve done it in style, too, and that’s important.

“On their day, they are the most entertaining and best-passing team in the league.

“John Hughes really deserves all the awards and plaudits that he is getting just now.”

The veteran frontman might want to have a swift peek at the final Premiership League table. It doesn’t exactly back up his words.

Ronny Deila’s men won the title by a gap of SEVENTEEN points ahead of runners-up Aberdeen and TWENTY-SEVEN points ahead of the Highlanders.

The Hoops also hammered in 84 goals while Hughes’ outfit settled for 52 – THIRTY-TWO fewer strikes than the runaway championship winners.

Celtic also completed the 38-game campaign with a goal difference of Plus 67. Caley Thistle had to be content with Plus 10.

Deila’s Bhoys beat their rivals twice, drew once and lost once in their four league confrontations. And, in doing so, they clocked up seven goals and conceded a mere two.

We all know what happened in the Scottish Cup semi-final, so any argument about that particular encounter must be rendered redundant.

All in all, it’s an interesting judgement call from Thompson, who once spent three years playing for Rangers FC before they were eventually liquidated in 2012.
