You did this in 2012

1024

Every year we ask you to put your hand in your pocket for various causes and every year you react, but never more so than 2012.  You responded magnificently to the Wee Oscar Appeal, which from Celtic fans in total raised £31k in a bucket collection in September and £27k at a race night last month.

It is breath-taking to see the work done by those who, without thought for their personal sacrifices, decided this young boy would get the best chance possible.  The photographs of Oscar are an inspiration, but the work done by those who staged the race night and bucket collection – and brought a new CQN badge to life – is even more inspiring.

The events surrounding the charity golf day raised four-figure sums for Oscar, the Neuroblastoma Alliance, the Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and The Haven in Blantyre, which supports people with life limiting illness.  There were smaller donations too, each one a credit to the organisers and to those of you who contributed.

The overwhelming majority of this work, and pretty much all donations, are made by people who don’t want any thanks and would be horrified by publicity.  In most instances the beneficiaries will never know their names.  I’m in the really fortunate position that I get to see a lot of this happen and I can assure you it is awe inspiring.  You are in the company of many great Celts.

This club is not Neil Lennon’s or Dermot Desmond’s, it’s yours.  Celtic will win and lose many games but that will change nothing that is really important.  You are the person who will make it a unique force for good in the world.  That is our challenge for 2013.

Thank you for all your help, take care and have an absolutely fantastic Christmas.

  1. Green: There may not be another Celtic Rangers game.

    Yip, they’re deid.

There may be a Celtic Sevco game, but this will be a first for both clubs…

  2. Paul67,

An inspiring summation of the good works of good people.

I’m sure sports fans everywhere will join me in congratulating the Donegal GAA football team on becoming the Team of the Year on RTE’ Sports Awards programme.

  3. What an article to read as I now start my holidays! Proud as punch of all of you.

And then I clicked on Magnus’ link above and survived 3 minutes of jaw dropping incredulity!! Words fail me (apart from those that I’ve just written, obviously).

I wish all of you and yours a very Happy Holy and peaceful Christmas. As TB said on many an occasion, “God’s good!”

  4. goldstar10 –

I’ve now realised that the link originated from you. Not sure whether ‘crediting’ you with that is the right phrase to use ;-)

Many thanks for CQN and your continued efforts for justice enlightenment and charity, a Merry Christmas to you your family and all on CQN.

  6. That Chunkles message/massage….cannae be bothered watchin’ it.

Because….a) I cannae be bothered. b) It’ll be a load of Krusty Klown Krissmass Keech.

    c) Guaranteed 100%, the poison pen of the corpulent ex-presstitute turned trumpet face, Jabba, will have scripted it. d) I’m a Tim, it’s Christmas Eve, and I have much better and happier things to occupy my mind.

Ipn5- don’t know that character but will look him up.

Magnus- apologies, should have alerted the blog.

You’re automatically forgiven. Apologies are rare and therefore treasured all the more.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. :-)

  9. Haven’t seen Mr Charles’s Xmas video message so I’m imagining him wishing Sevconians everywhere a debt free Christmas and preposterous new year

  10. Charles green what a character. Lucky that lad is not pinnochio or he would take out half the city every time he turned his head .

  11. So the Guardian’s 100 best footballers list is complete. Don;t think there will be too many complaints about the top of the list: Messi, Ronaldo, Xabi, Iniesta,

Ashley Cole is the top Brit at 30 and oor Victor is the only Scottish based player at 81.

Surprisingly no Scottish third division players make the list. I’m sure they would have dominated had our media drawn this up.

  12. Merry Christmas to you Paul67 with a heap of thanks for a wonderful source of informed news fun and occasionally totally-non-football chat.

To those no longer around I will give a moment tomorrow to think of.

Proud to be a Celtic Man. This has been a monumental year and if I thought Seville was good for togetherness then 2012 is even better.

  13. Brilliant words Paul67,

A great tribute, and inspiration to maintain the momentum of our amazing club.

PS for anyone wanting a laugh I’ve been posting on the last thread on my tod thinking I was caught in a time warp.

    Paul 67,

Do you feel someone has to stop Chuckles Green from wildly in-factual press releases?…. (as entertaining as they are)

Or let him continue to pull the wool (no Yorkshire pun intended) over his fellow Sevconians?

    Merry christmas!

  15. The Honest Cover-up on

The statement from Green would be a disgrace were it made by a respectable outfit. Instead, coming from a shambolic mess of a new club playing in a part time league, the fourth tier in Scottish football, it is hilarious. Any decent old club can who “TUPEd” over to sevco should be cringing. It actually shows how far the new club are away from being a threat to us.

Most of us here have criticised our board from time to time but I think we can all agree we are run professionally.

I remember a quote from the Mayor of Barcelona saying the old Rangers did not deserve top class European football because they were not worthy of it on a “footballing and human level”. After reading that statement they are barely worthy of the part time football against candle stick makers that they play.

In the same week where Platini has been raving about our club and it’s contribution to the best tournament in the world the difference between Celtic and sevco could not be more stark.

They are a complete irrelevance to us on footballing terms but a source of hilarity and car crash curiosity when we are bored in between Champions League games and competing for a domestic treble.

It’s a shame that George Peat isn’t around at the SFA to tell us how tiresome he is finding these bizarre statements.

The fact that the same media who lambasted Mad Vlad will either ignore this or give it muted approval shows how much of a hindrance the pandering media actually are to them. They are sleep walking into another disaster and we can sit back and watch sevco have the same fate as Rangers 1873.

2012 has been a truly fantastic year. With Wembley to look forward to in 2013 it’s a great time to be a Celtic supporter.

Well done to everyone for all the off field work done.

Hail hail and Merry Christmas everyone!

  16. Bhoys

Have a great Christmas and a particular mention for the cqners I have been lucky to have a few drinks with this year and spoke to on the blog.

It’s been one of the best years I can remember as a Celtic supporter and the interest and help in other people’s misfortunes makes it even better.

    HH to you and yours…..xx

  17. lionroars67

Truly cringeworthy stuff from Mr Green. They could not even arrange a proper autocue!

Expecting to see him in the panto sometime over the festive period.

    >>>>>

While traipsing round the airwaves t’other day I happened upon the dulcet tones of the legendary language-mangler DL……I nearly choked ‘pon my sassparilla as I heard him compare t’rankers to ManUre, and praise Elbows as one of the finest players in modern football.

In the light of this, I imagine the absence of sevcovians in the top 100 must mean that their abilities are sooooo incredibly stellar that they actually transcend mere mortal lists.

There can be no other explanation.

  19. 16 roads – Neil Lennon walks on water.

I was in a trance there watching the Lisbon Lions video that Kitalba posted.

Have said it before. Those of us lucky enough to watch them every week, simply did not take in at the time how good they were.

Only now watching old videos does it really come home to us.

  20. Thomthethim, absolutely, well done Donegal.

dessybhoy, and a very Merry Christmas to you.

    gedhed7, very true.

    Travelbhoy, agree and well said.

    Fortunes Favour Mibbes, thanks.

KING VIC, I think we should encourage him to continue.

lymmbhoy, Happy Christmas to you too!

  21. time for change on

Changed days indeed. …this time last year we were watching the final throes of the former club that was Rangers and wondering when they would go..

We’ve seen the start of the end of the MSM sports hack…indeed Begg and Tranyor are major casualties…

The tax man is still there….

The ordinary Scottish football fans managed what the SFA couldn’t forcing sporting integrity. ..

    We’re up there in Europe

And the Celtic family continues to support those who need our help…

Merry Christmas each and everyone of you.
