You did this in 2012

1024

Every year we ask you to put your hand in your pocket for various causes and every year you react, but never more so than 2012.  You responded magnificently to the Wee Oscar Appeal, which from Celtic fans in total raised £31k in a bucket collection in September and £27k at a race night last month.

It is breath-taking to see the work done by those who, without thought for their personal sacrifices, decided this young boy would get the best chance possible.  The photographs of Oscar are an inspiration, but the work done by those who staged the race night and bucket collection – and brought a new CQN badge to life – is even more inspiring.

The events surrounding the charity golf day raised four-figure sums for Oscar, the Neuroblastoma Alliance, the Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and The Haven in Blantyre, which supports people with life limiting illness.  There were smaller donations too, each one a credit to the organisers and to those of you who contributed.

The overwhelming majority of this work, and pretty much all donations, are made by people who don’t want any thanks and would be horrified by publicity.  In most instances the beneficiaries will never know their names.  I’m in the really fortunate position that I get to see a lot of this happen and I can assure you it is awe inspiring.  You are in the company of many great Celts.

This club is not Neil Lennon’s or Dermot Desmond’s, it’s yours.  Celtic will win and lose many games but that will change nothing that is really important.  You are the person who will make it a unique force for good in the world.  That is our challenge for 2013.

Thank you for all your help, take care and have an absolutely fantastic Christmas.

  11. Paul. that was a fine article and fitting that you recognise the great work

carried out by many on this site on behalf of the less fortunate in and beyond

the Celtic family. This site operates hand in glove with the Celtic ethos and is

a credit to you and the others who enable us to avail ourselves of it.

Paul I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a Holy and

    peaceful Christmas.

And by extension wish the same to all of you Celts in CQN land

  12. Bang on the button with that lead Paul,

Just noticed there is a film on today which is called “The Santa Claus”.

What happened to the original Santa Claus? Has he been spending beyond his means on presents for years and liquidated to form a newco called The Santa Claus but retaining the history of the old Santa?

happy Christmas to all in cqn land.

  15. Merry Christmas everyone!

I honestly can’t watch the chuckles video, beyond cringeworthy. I’d be mortified if Peter Lawwell did something similar.

2013 promises to be a good year! Wembley and the death of Sevco?

  16. a happy and healthy christmas to paul67 and family.

Hail, hail and Merry Christmas to the Celtic family.

Merry Christmas to you and all the posters for providing and contributing to something that is more than just a blog.

It feeds my daily addiction to not only news about Celtic but to news of just about everything else!

The charity work has also been immense and long may it continue.

Here’s to a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas for all. Cheers!

  20. Just watched Chuckles Xmas Special

When Minty bailed out at Rankers , I was worried about the ability to replace such an egotistical, loose canon.

I yearned for the days of ‘for every £5 …’

Credit to Rankers , they have succeeded, and they have a worthy successor

Celtic Disabled Supporters’ Association appeal to fellow fans

By: Newsroom Staff on 24 Dec, 2012 11:42

THE Celtic Disabled Supporters’ Association has issued an appeal to fellow Celtic supporters regarding flares being released at away grounds.

The CDSA said: ‘We appeal to those people who bring flares to games, and those who know people that do, to stop and think of the consequences as you have no control over the direction that the smoke will go.

´Many of our members have respiratory illnesses or respiratory limitations because of their disabilities including at least one member who is on a portable ventilator.

´If any of these Celtic Supporters, including myself, were to inhale a small amount of the smoke there would be extremely serious health repercussions which would come on very quickly.

´We do not want to find a disabled Celtic supporter, or any other supporter, hospitalised because of someone´s idea of fun. And we certainly do not want to find that it takes a fatality before this practice stops. So we appeal to you, don´t let this happen to your fellow Celtic supporters.´

Awright we know HT’s scared of sparklers never mind flares, just in case

    Juventus news ———

The Drogba thing was declared a non runner yesterday , today’s news is that it’s back on .

Juve have signed a beast of a defender from Atalanta . Averages a booking every 2 games . 2 reds this season . [to date ] I imagine those stats will improve with him now being a Juve player .

A very Merry Christmas to you all before I forget. A special mention to Paul67 and Mrs Paul67 and their kids and Martin42. Of whom so many sacrifices are made by them for us. A very Merry Christmas to all of you and thanks. It is not going unappreciated.

    Hoopy Christmas to you all.

So many things make Celtic special but there has always been a goodness at the heart of the club that takes it through difficult times.

I remember my dad telling me how upset Hughie Maxwell was at being released in the 50s because Celtic had been so good and patient with him.

Now and again they faltered but the moral compass of the club always pointed to “Love/Charity” and the right course has been charted.

A very wise move as we are assured that love never ever fails.

  27. Paull67 et al

It has been a momentous year in all things Celtic, but one thing is for sure the spirit of Brother Walfrid lives 125 years on. In your work here you are helping maintain the great traditions of our club. I salute your efforts and the efforts of all on here, for Kano and Oscar.

    Long May You Run

  28. (From previous thread),

Izzy, if we agree to hold them all in contempt, that’ll do. Very civil of you to apologise BTW but no need. The pic of the Bullingdons did what you wanted, i.e. made me want to boke.

Miki, good that we can agree on 2 things – contempt for politicians & love for Celtic.

  29. Merry Xmas tae all oan CQN, long time lurker, enjoyed many of the articles over the past few years…

Chuckles green cringe worthy video is fantastic, unbelievable…
