Like you, I get tired of this place sometimes. We’ve all got plenty of other things going on in our lives, plenty of calls on our time and energy, the last thing we need is to deal with the consequences of a narrow win when a comprehensive victory was expected, but, of course, the compensations are immeasurable.
You get home on Christmas Eve, after a long day, and a longer year, and you read something like this:
The donor had been in touch and asked what the next project was. I’ve big plans for 2017. What I’m thinking is that we use the Anniversary Year to push the core values of our community – and our club – to new levels. Like before, we’re going to do work for many causes, but I’ve a notion that the time is right to engage with Celtic fans to a greater extent than has been possible before.
A decade or so into online football communities has given us enough material to measure the impact they have had on clubs, the media and how fans relate, but what is clear, is that we are the first generation for whom it has been possible to engage an entire fan base on helping those who are most in need.
In earlier times this kind of activity was often limited to those collected together in a hall. The call wasn’t able to reach onto your lap (as it is right now). We have to acknowledge this is a new time, with new opportunities to reinvigorate our club with its founding values.
Society changes, the Celtic support has changed. We can’t infuse future generations with a love of the old country’. Frankly, it you follow the demographics, future generations of Celtic supporters will increasingly come from the native population, or England, Eastern Europe, Pakistan or elsewhere. The ‘old country’ will matter less.
What we can do is put our founding value at the core of who we are. Win, lose or draw, our mission as Celtic supporters is to be there for those most in need.
The is what we are going to do in 2017. That £1000 (+ gift aid) is the second substantial donation Mary’s Meals already have towards putting food on the table of Sean Devereux Primary School, Liberia, for a year. We’ll talk more about the work of Sean soon, and about the school in his memory.
This, of course, is just one act in the book of what you did in 2016. I honestly don’t know how many meals were paid for, it must be around 100,000, kids were aided, and the magnificent work of Foundation was supported we discussed on Thursday was helped throughout.
We’ll have a raffle coming up on Boxing Day, which will see someone collect two tickets for Ibrox on Hogmany, with money going to the School, so look out for it – it will only be live for a couple of days.
You deserve a great Christmas – so make sure you have one!

Gamboa was better today. He didn’t really get forward and as such stuck to the defensive side of the game. Thought he was better in possession and won his battles tenaciously. Expect to see more of him. Mika will be pushed hard for his place in the team.

Brendan isn’t pushing Mikael for a new Contract, I hope he is up to it, I doubt it though because his defending at Times is scarey…. constantly letting attackers into the Penalty area.
Kieran is an Example of what Brendan wants from his players.

The wood in the cabin fire burnt brightly and crackled as the bacon on the end of Dolph’s fork dripped oil and fat into the hungry flames.
He ran his fingers through his still healthily ginger hair, the startling appearance of which allied to his long held communist tendencies had earned him his nickname…”The Red”.
“Sad, That’s what I am” he pondered remembering days of yore and pulling his hand away from his strawberry blonde pride and joy to turn the bacon round.
“ ‘S’ bleedin ‘A’ bleedin ‘D’…..stuck here on the edge of the magic forest with nothing but big fat Mrs Dolph, two dogs, a muskrat and four whingeing weans. I could have been a contender …. They used to whisper my name when I walked into the room……..’look’ they would murmer….’there’s The Red,,,,he’s some man, he’ll see us all right,’ …..and then what happened….I’ll tell you what……a bleedin woman happened …..that’s what. “
Just at that moment the very lass of his thoughts sauntered in to the room, giving him a twirl to show off her Christmas outfit.
“What do you think Dolph? My bum doesn’t look big in this does it?” she asked with a wink.
“How could it look big in that. The Circus used that as a big top last year. The combined rear ends of a troop of elephants wouldn’t look big in that. Anyway more importantly….look at that weather….it’s going to rain shortly….hopefully anyway,,,,,and then all that miserable snow can melt away and I can get down to the pub and have a drink with my pals in intellectual corner.”
“Don’t be so rude! You’re always rude. Say something nice..go on try it “
“It’s going to rain…..is that nice enough for you big nose?”.
Mrs Dolph gave up trying to get him to be nice. “It’s Christmas eve, we live on the edge of the magic forest and Santa is about to head off into the sky and deliver presents to all the good children of the world. Every year it snows so as the sleigh can take off and the world will be bathed in weans’ laughter and smiles…stop being so miserable and rude to me….have a glass of Buckie”
“Shut yer big fat gob, will ye, trust me when I tell you that once that big stupid eejit in the red pyjamas takes off the snow will turn to sleet and then rain, and I’ll be able to get away from you and this hole of a life for just a few hours”
“Ach you jist hate it that you aren’t the main man any more….no longer “The Red” are you?…..well get used to it….it’s snowing…..it’s going to keep snowing and you are just going to have to sit here, with me, the muskrat, 2 dogs and 4 whingeing weans…..c’mere an’ geeza cuddle”
She hadn’t quite finished when there was an almighty whoosh and Santa’s sleigh took off like a moon rocket shaking the trees, and leaving a trail of sparkling magic fairy dust in its wake.
As the earth and heavens stopped trembling in the aftershock, suddenly the snow turned at first to sleet and then one…..two…..ten…..a hundred ……a hundred thousand drops of rain cascaded down from the heavens above clearing the snow and making a path to the pub!
Mrs Dolph stared out at the changing scene in utter astonishment and then turned to see the smug grin on the face of her rude red haired husband.
At first he said nothing and then with a self-satisfied grin he uttered those immortal words, beloved by everyone at Christmas……………..

Just out from Midnight Mass which was a very uplifting service. During it I remembered all the promises I made to pray for CQNers who have illness or who have members of their families in poor health.
I wish Paul 67 and his family and all who post on here a very Happy and Blessed Christmas. May the Light of the world touch all of humanity, even those are not aware of the Coming of the Lord.
Those wishes extend also the Manager, staff and Bhoys who have made our Christmas that bit merrier.
