You live in a land where “Accies against the Act” is a prohibited phrase

You will not need me to remind you of an SNP government minister’s desire to “equalise” political chanting in status with criminal acts was one of, if not the primary, motivation for the Offensive Behaviour at Football’ Act.

The Act has been justified at every turn by an insistence that it exists to keep sectarianism and hate away from football games, despite sectarianism and hate chanting being well covered by existing legislation. Yesterday, this presumably shield against hate crime, was used against Hamilton Accies and Celtic fans, holding banners proclaiming “Repeal the Offensive Behaviour Act”. Among other prohibited banner slogans were “Fans not criminals” and “Supporting your team is not a crime”.

I have been appalled at this Act, from the early concepts of the Bill, to its ineffective passage through courts, to this highly Offensive manner it trampled on the Human Rights of Celtic and Hamilton fans to silence political dissent.

You are living in a land where “Accies against the Act” is a prohibited phrase, where both sets of fans, acting in unison, offending no one apart from those in power, are hassled by the police.

Thanks to everyone who donated to my Celtic Foundation fundraising page (still open) for yesterday’s Great Scottish Run, it is enormously appreciated. Well done to the thousands who lined the streets offering support, and on occasion, peeled oranges. Society, a concept we were told was dead in the 80s, is alive and well in Glasgow.

RIP St.John Doyle. Didn’t think it was a year ago I was at the Cathedral when he was received in the evening(couldn’t make funeral) but I thought I had seen it on the big screens at the Euro league game but since it wasn’t mentioned assumed it was a different George. A sad loss.

  8. ACGR- THX for the info.

Kodi- it will work at that speed but you are borderline tbh, but I’m just greedy when it comes to speed.

The PC option is OK and you could run a cable to your TV if the WiFi is struggling.

Sad also, although not in the least bit surprised to read that the Zionists are going to supply their Jihadist puppets with SAM missiles.

Let’s hope, for the very sake of humanity itself that Russia obliterates the “moderates” before they get the chance to put them to effect.

They have already supplied them with the TOWs – surface-to-surface missiles, deadly enough as they are.

Syrian today isn’t Afghanistan in the 80’s.

Say goodbye to civil aviation from Europe to anywhere else on earth, from here on in.

They will stop at nothing – your so-called western governments.

How come it is considered acceptable to quote that The Guardian thing on here, yet it would be frowned upon, if someone was gallus enough to quote that The Daily Mail thing?

Despite the fact that they are two sides of the same coin?

    Propaganda and lies.

Neither as bad as the BBC though,in all fairness.

Wake up, before it’s too late.

Thank you for remembering St. John Boyle on the second anniversary of his untimely passing. A Giant amongst men.

  17. Equality Commission reports inequality in NI education

By Robbie Meredith BBC News NI Education Correspondent

The Equality Commission (EC) says inequality in education has become worse in Northern Ireland since 2007.

In a report, they highlight continuing, persistent underachievement by working-class Protestant children, and wider male underachievement in education.

    Key findings

    ^ Males have persistently lower levels of attainment than females throughout primary and post-primary education;

^ Protestants have persistently lower levels of attainment than Catholics at GCSE and A-Level, and that gap has widened in recent years.

  19. Probably the best description of neocon I’ve read, and there’s people on here proud to be one

What, then, are the core principles of neoconservatism?

    1. Neoconservative Metaphysics: The neocons take the “political community” or what Irving Kristol called the “collective self” as the primary unit of moral, social and political value…. The actual content of the “public interest” is whatever wise and benevolent men say it is, which is precisely why it should never be defined. The highest task of neoconservative statesmanship is to superimpose ideological unity on the “collective self” in the name of an ever-shifting “public interest.”

    2. Neoconservative Epistemology: Neoconservatives begin with the Platonic assumption that ordinary people are irrational and must be guided by those who are rational…. The highest truth in Strauss and Kristol is restricted to the philosopher, while the common man is and must be limited to “knowledge” of a different sort: to myth, revelation, custom, and prejudice. Neoconservatives believe the opinions of the nation must therefore be shaped by those who rule. To control ideas is to control public opinion, which in turn is to control the regime as a whole. Ultimately, the vulgar must be ruled by faith and by faith’s necessary ally, force.

    3. Neoconservative Ethics: If you believe, as Straussianized neocons do, that there are “different kinds of truth for different kinds of people,” then you must believe that there are and must be different moral codes as well. Ordinary people need … ordering myths by which to live (such as piety and patriotism)…. [And their] Morality is therefore [re-]defined as overcoming one’s petty self-interest so as to sacrifice for the common good [i.e. the national interest – as defined by the neocon philosopher-kings].

    4. Neoconservative Politics: Central to the neoconservatives’ philosophy of governance is the conceit that it is possible, in the words of Kristol, for a small elite “to have an a priori knowledge of what constitutes happiness for other people.” Because common people cannot possibly know what they really want or what constitutes their true happiness, it is entirely appropriate for a philosophically trained political elite to guide them to their true happiness and to prevent them from making bad decisions. The highest purpose of neoconservative statesmanship is therefore to shape preferences, form habits, cultivate virtues, and create the “good” society, a society that is known a priori to those of superior philosophic wisdom. The neocons therefore advocate using government force to make “good” choices for America’s non-philosophers in order to nudge them in certain directions—that is, toward choosing a life of virtue and duty. As Strauss made clear in his most influential work Natural Right and History, wise statesmen must learn to use “forcible restraint” and “benevolent coercion” in order to keep down the selfish and base desires of ordinary men.

Excuse my ignorance, but do you have access to beer there? I keep trying that as a coolant when I am stuck in plus 30 degrees Celsius situations. Not sure after 40 years of trying, if it works, but I think more research is still required. ;-)
