I’m sure many of you will be aware of the Vanessa Riddle appeal which has featured in the comments page in recent weeks. Vanessa was diagnosed with a form of childhood cancer in 2009 but after extensive and difficult treatment received the all clear 17 months ago. Last month her parents received news that she had suffered a relapse and that no suitable treatment was available in the UK. Treatment is available in Philadelphia at a cost of £500,000.
Although the diagnosis is only a few weeks old the fundraising effort to send Vanessa to Philadelphia has already raised over £137k with increasing numbers of people becoming aware of the need on a daily basis (CQN’er, Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan is not a man to be denied).
To help raise awareness and funds, Taggsybhoy has booked Jury’s Inn, Glasgow, two nights next month, one of which, Saturday 11th February, he will hold a Music Quiz for the CQN community, with all proceeds going to the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. You may have heard mention of the appeal but if you have not caught the details take a moment to update yourself here. Getting involved is as part of your Celtic heritage as green and white hoops. Don’t forget to book for the quiz, there’s a limit of 70 people for the room so you can’t turn up unannounced. We’re home to the Highanders that day.
Issue 6 of CQN Magazine is currently being prepared; drop me a line if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Onwards and upwards, starting on Sunday. To hell with the Currant Buns – leave them to their misery.
(BTW just how Rafael is that big Bartley? How did he EVER get near an Arsenal team?)
agood cause
Livornobhoy,
that news on Paddy warms the heart, but I expect its just the start of negotiations first bid refused, hope not, but cant help feeling he’s for the off on the first acceptable offer, he’s probably one of the lowest paid at Celtic park, the reason for the no hurry approach.
Personally I’d have him second only to sammi on the team sheet
COME ON YOU BHOYS IN GREEN
Was poised to chase the ol podium this morning, didn’t seem right once I read the article. Sobering thought.
Morning all.

N H L H E Thing is my friend we do need to reduce the number of fringe players on our books in order to allow us to use the funds released to be used to keep our first teamers and allow us to sign quality players. We all have our faveroute players we dont want to see sold unortunately I dont see Paddy ever being a first team regular so if the money is right we should bite the bullet and move him on.H.H.
Great article Paul, the efforts of Celtic and the Celtic support have never ceased to amaze me in these last three years or so since I discovered CQN..
A mighty group of people do the best they can for all they can..

If I can make a sugestion,it would be to link to,or even better, copy and paste,BRT&H’s excellent post which introduced us to this most deserving of causes.
And then to send it to EVERONE on your mailing list, with one small proviso-the one which has prevented me from doing it to date.
WAIT TILL PAYDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing sum of money in these hard times.
Go Taggsybhoy – great stuff!

Once again your site shows the world the difference between us and the Tax Dodgers. I hope thee poor wee soul gets the treatment she needs.
I wonder how many Kafflik Skools are getting in the neck just now on FF…
Paul67,
I will be down with my family that weekend to watch the game.
Wont be able to take part in the quiz but will there be a get together in the hotel bar before quiz commencement ?
Would like an opportunity to put faces to blog names if at all possible.
CQN music quiz?
I’m taking as my specialist subject ‘Dick Byrne and the Embrocation- the Wilderness Years’.
And for the sudden death tie break I’m going for ‘Johnny Clash; Mandolin Stylings for the Stylish Man’.
Oh and contribute towards the fund of course.

Some things are more important.
Send the link to all on your e-mailing list.
Even if one person pledges a tenner, that’s a WINNER!

When is the 2nd date taggsybhoy and is it for the annual cqn quiz night
Joe….,
wasnt that long ago the same was being said about sammi, and there are still a load who want rid of him whilst grudgingly admitting he can play. IMO Paddy is a bit like sammi, in that some have such deep rooted dislike they dont want to have to eat their words. They’d rather loose a good player then admit they are wrong.
Ki could not be considered a fringe player, do you apply the same argument to him
BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS @ 1248
True. Will email and tweet.

Is it just me?
I have a feeling in my water that RFC will be gettin’ off lightly for their misdemeanors and that HFC will use the outcome to get shot of their debt problems as well. Somebody tell me I’m wrong!!
DungloeBhoy
You are wrong. Right to be scared but wrong.
Dungloebhoy,
yer wrong
there is that better :o)
OOOOPS
Ki could be considered a fring player, does the same argument apply

hailhailplc , agree with part one.
starry plough, it’s what the club is all about.
ASonOfDan, let’s hope.
myboysnowatim, I’m sure that could be accommodated.
mcgoalie19, the other date is the previous day, 10th Feb.
Livornobhoy-The story allegedly came from Paddy’s brother,Blackpool have bid £1.2 mil .Neil wants him to stay,he wants to stay PL wants to sell. With the emergence of McGeough, and Ibrahim who is also an attacking player it’s a tough one.PL and the board will no doubt want to get rid of Paddy’s song too.

Nadal Wins 3-1..

Must admit,I thought BRT&H’s most excellent alert to us all on Vanessa’s plight took place around the start of the second week in January.
Obviously,it would be easy to track down, then c&p.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPS.
Canny find it,so I’m gonna delve a bit deeper.
While I’m doing that, can you repost the original for everyone else to see?
I’m gonna be a bit busy……….

from previous thread,
so I mentions to the guy in work, about the GAA book, getting talked about on CQN, and I just got the name from the blog,
I says its “How the GAA survived the Troubles”
by
Des Fahy.
The boy Connor then says, hahahhahah
I was in school with Des.
its a wee world sometimes
but i wouldnt want to paint it
N C L H E I understand what your saying personaly I would sell Ki I dont think he does enough he tends to play across the park and not from midfield forward.Sammi I have allways rated and would keep but if he was sold I could understand and accept it.In my opinion we cant keep saying no when teams ask about our fringe players if we do that will hinder the progress of our first team.We have a crop of very young players who in my opinion would benefit from having a couple of older more mature players on the park with them but in order to sign players we need to reduce our squad.H.H.

Gonna tell the BBC Live Updates. They’ve got the match at 4-3 Nadal in the 4th…
Good to see Paddy is staying with us. Hopefully he will get some playing time over the next few games
Can someone confirm when the Scottish Cup Final is this year?

Interesting. Hope it is the case that Lenny is insisting we keep him.
I take your point about the song.
I noticed Paddy suddenly became “injured” after we were reported for “illicit” chanting. Could just be coincidence but if Lawwell doesn’t want the song they’ll probably have to punt him.
Bada bing
so it will be Peters fault if we sell Paddy!
Transfers in or out – Anything good – Neil Lennon walked over fire to sign this guy, what a find….
Transfers in or out – Anything bad – Peter signed him, went over Neils head, Peter said he was too expensive…….
I was looking something to do on the night of the 11th. I’m over for the Inverness game and booked into Jurys that night.
Well done, very good cause.
If my head was to rule my heart I would sell Paddy. He cost us very little, doesn’t play very much and any offer north of £1.5m would be good business. He is a fantastic player, the most enjoyable to watch since Lubo, but eventually we will have accept that he will not be a first team regular. *Typed with great sadness*.
