You, your Celtic heritage and Vanessa

I’m sure many of you will be aware of the Vanessa Riddle appeal which has featured in the comments page in recent weeks.  Vanessa was diagnosed with a form of childhood cancer in 2009 but after extensive and difficult treatment received the all clear 17 months ago.  Last month her parents received news that she had suffered a relapse and that no suitable treatment was available in the UK.  Treatment is available in Philadelphia at a cost of £500,000.

Although the diagnosis is only a few weeks old the fundraising effort to send Vanessa to Philadelphia has already raised over £137k with increasing numbers of people becoming aware of the need on a daily basis (CQN’er, Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan is not a man to be denied).

To help raise awareness and funds, Taggsybhoy has booked Jury’s Inn, Glasgow, two nights next month, one of which, Saturday 11th February, he will hold a Music Quiz for the CQN community, with all proceeds going to the Vanessa Riddle Appeal.  You may have heard mention of the appeal but if you have not caught the details take a moment to update yourself here.  Getting involved is as part of your Celtic heritage as green and white hoops.  Don’t forget to book for the quiz, there’s a limit of 70 people for the room so you can’t turn up unannounced.  We’re home to the Highanders that day.

Issue 6 of CQN Magazine is currently being prepared; drop me a line if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

If you say ‘Warchest’ 5 times, bournesouprecipe appears with a link.

  4. As much as it pains me I think that even if the huns lose the tax case that they will still be allowed to survive as a club in the SPL , especially with all the skullduggery behind them and what they still represent to the majority of the ‘establishment’

Re. the bells of hell and rocking the joint.

I intend to put your opinion to the test.Maybe on the next C.S.A. harbour cruise.

    It`s a very short little ditty.Need a follow up.

“There`s not a team” would seem the obvious choice.

Course, they might end up being embarrassing solos.

    But that won`t stop me.

  6. Great idea about the Quiz night to raise funds for Vanessa – can’t make as due to be at a 50th that night but have made a contribution like many of the guys on here.

Thoughts and prayers with Vanessa and her family.

  7. By day I'm 'Mike in Toronto' but on Sunday 'I'm Neil Lennon' on

    Blantyre Tim

Right, I know that she is far too good looking for me, and you know that she is far too good looking for me…. but, so far, she hasn’t figured that out …. so, maybe not gonna tell her, okay? :)

Thanks lads, great trip and enjoyed every minute.

My brother-in-laws 40th. Waxy O’Conners in Fort Lauderdale between cruises on his birthday. He is a great guy but likes his team from the Southside, Fair play to him he wore his new Celtic top with Attila 40 on the back all day, will post photo later.

Enjoyed a nice meal last night in La Laterna. Christopher (owner) asked if it was my first visit, I replied ‘yes’ recommended by CQN says I.

Oh, Celtic Quick news says he ‘welcome’. :-)

  9. Pompey Bhoy, my observations were from a few Portsmouth supporting Hun types where I worked for 11 yrs darn south, you have 1st hand experience of living there so I bow to you’re experience/ knowledge.

  10. Foster’s a world class player! According to nasally snyde. He’s in a rich vein of form! He’s got everything you need for a goalkeeper. (unlike the last guy who was trying to assemble an IKEA wardrobe during a 25 yard free kick situation). Suddenly Celtic fans are at fault for phoning a ‘phone-in!

  11. TET – ok amigo, i’ll do my research this week; you’re my source for all things golf, tinto and preventatives:) just spoke to my mate who’s heading to Florida on Friday; so i might be off down there soon and will get the chance to swing the clubs again; straight left bat and no more than 75%, RIGHT?

Mike – Our secret is safe my friend, she is indeed the lucky one, case closed!

Sorry, it was up_over’s fault that, – along with his link to ‘Victorian Dad’ otherwise I’d have been deeper in Eastenders.

  13. Gordon daziel thinks we should have ‘…sumdae sittin’ at Lennoxtoon tae fill in at left back…’. St Drogo, pray for us!

Opened and had a look (your favourite lady?) was just about to close it, then the movement! Sublime.

…and another thing, G Dalziel is a complete moron.

    Excellent suggestion.

Hope it is not lost in the welter of posts.

    Hope springs eternal.

  17. Looking ahead to Sunday’s semi and we will have to be at the very top of our game to overcome a fearless and inform Falkirk.

The danger for us is that we consider it a break from league action and subconsciously take our foot off the pedal.

And yet he thought tonight’s show was the best they had in ages! Mainly because Mark Wotta took up 90 mins! The only real highlight was when the clearly exasperated mum ‘phoned in and asked him (mark) why hard pressed parents should have to ferry knackered weans round the country at their own expense in orIder to benefit git owners. Answer? That’s what you do with gymnasts/swimmers!

Clearly this guy’s heart is in the right place but if he wants to make progress he’s going to have to put some distance between himself and the meeja. Keevins ‘…this is a health issue!…’. Why are only six secondaries in the whole of Scotland involved ?

Poor guy (Wotta) got Keevins and Dalziel out of a hole.

  21. Interesting developments regarding Rangers players and possible second contracts that would be in contravention of SFA/UEFA rules. Derry City were relegated from the top flight of the League of Ireland in 2009 following a similar revelation that their players had 2 contracts.

  22. Blantyre Tim,

    Agreed, good game…

But a few questions as I tuned in late…

What did Dougie Freedman say about Malky Mackay?

Why is Davie Marshall not in goals for Cardiff?

Johnathan Pearce namechecks the managerial influences on Malky’s career – Rioch, Graham Taylor and omits the best of the lot, Tommy Burns. Mackay does however, look like the next in a very, very long line of Prem managers from the west of Scotland.

Can’t see past Cardiff in this one.
