You, your Celtic heritage and Vanessa

759

I’m sure many of you will be aware of the Vanessa Riddle appeal which has featured in the comments page in recent weeks.  Vanessa was diagnosed with a form of childhood cancer in 2009 but after extensive and difficult treatment received the all clear 17 months ago.  Last month her parents received news that she had suffered a relapse and that no suitable treatment was available in the UK.  Treatment is available in Philadelphia at a cost of £500,000.

Although the diagnosis is only a few weeks old the fundraising effort to send Vanessa to Philadelphia has already raised over £137k with increasing numbers of people becoming aware of the need on a daily basis (CQN’er, Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan is not a man to be denied).

To help raise awareness and funds, Taggsybhoy has booked Jury’s Inn, Glasgow, two nights next month, one of which, Saturday 11th February, he will hold a Music Quiz for the CQN community, with all proceeds going to the Vanessa Riddle Appeal.  You may have heard mention of the appeal but if you have not caught the details take a moment to update yourself here.  Getting involved is as part of your Celtic heritage as green and white hoops.  Don’t forget to book for the quiz, there’s a limit of 70 people for the room so you can’t turn up unannounced.  We’re home to the Highanders that day.

Issue 6 of CQN Magazine is currently being prepared; drop me a line if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

  1. It’s a no brainer that the hun players had second contracts, or side letters.

Not being too clued up on the financial side of things, I understand how EBT’s work and it entails players in this case being paid by an outside agency/trust, it follows that their contract that the authorities see deducts Tax, Nic and the other contract/side letter stipulates what the player will receive via the trust.

Hung drawn and quartered, tis I believe a slow death, just what the hun deserve.

I have been trying to buy tickets online for the game on Sunday – without success.

I am fairly sure there are still tickets available, but does anyone know if there is a closing date on online applications?

If their players had 2 contracts, they are in big trouble, and so are the SFA

  7. Mention of the big drum tales from the “Glen reminded me of this one.True story.

Two work mates were working at a house in Drongan, darkest Ayrshire (home village of the egg man kb),after some

violent lightening storms. One mate, a good Celtic man was outside on ladders, the other an Ayr Utd fan son of a Mayo

born gentleman was in the loft. While in the loft he came across the marching gear including the big base drum.

The son of Mayo man calls on his mate ” I need help in here,we,ve got a problem”.After complaining the Celtic fan

made his way into the loft.

After persuasion from the son of Mayo man,the Celtic fan does not put his foot through the drum.

Instead, they put numerous pin holes round the circumference !

Oh to witness the first band practice of the marching season

I would doubt the players have a problem.

The sfa have admitted that they took the info reveived on face value, they will have the problem, and I would imagine the likes of uefa are holding fire untill the tax case has delivered it’s ruling.

If the case goes against the hun, I would imagine the smelly stuff will hit the fan :>))))))

Don’t know when to believe my auld man. He very good salesman and admits in his game he has to be a good liar. So much so i don’t think he even knows himself if his stories are real or fantasy. To this day he still claims his family was so poor that he had to walk to school (St Columkilles) in his bare feet in the snow. He also used to tell me many stories bout him and his brother ‘sorting out’ many Ruglin huns who over stepped the mark. One of these stories involved my da repeatly banging one of the huns heads against the side of an ice-cream van. Anyway when i was younger i believed the hunskelpin stories but as i got older i started treating them with a pinch of salt but ive since met people from Ruglin who have told me my da did have a bit of a reputation. When i tell mrs hoopy (who is bit younger than me) and my kids that when i was a wee bhoy we lived in mill st and we only had a shared outside toilet and no bath or shower and that my folks had to wash me in the kitchen sink with the dishes they don’t believe me!

  14. I hope we are given exact dates when all this tax avoidance/alleged tax evasion took place and we can say to celts and some great celts and the families of people passed on that they didn’t have a level playing field and were cheated.

  15. I’m watching this Cardiff v Palace game and it’s extraordinarily poor.

I thought the Championship was supposed to be better than SPL standard, but on a but on a good pitch in good conditions none of them can string a few passes together, pass more than 10 yards, keep it down, or trap a high ball. Woeful….Perhaps it’s just an off night? but I can’t see anyone Celtic would consider from that lot. Certainly people on CQN would go into meltdown if Celtic players kept passing to no-one again and again like these guys.

  16. If anyone truly wants to know the difference between us and the bares only needs to look at the lead article on here full of charity and compassion and then have a look at the lead article just now on Swallow Swallow which is a rant against Aunt Sally, the rangers team, Walter Smith, media and the SFA.

For good measure we are referred to as vermin and yahoos.

Oh! the funny thing is, not ONE word about the billionaire oe tax evasion.

The Exiled Tim……sorry, I meant RFC when I said “they”………. that’s tax avoidance, duping the SFA, and fraud, and for the SFA to say they took it at face value is hilarious………BIG brown stuff, BIG fan…

Is that the same scumbag that shamed the club and support???

  22. Interesting article by Phil on the “2 contracts” scenario. Following RTC’s explosive joust with Stewart Regan on this subject last night, this could be the next wave to rock the good ship Dignity…

Interestingly, one of the most pro-Rangers hack, Darryl King – (surely a name made up on the Hun-o-matic Name Generator, like “Finlay Crawford” or “Kyle Paisley” or “Drummond Walter Drummond”?) – has on several occasions mentioned that these contracts exist.

    Why?

Doesn’t he realise that he is revealing potentially massive administrative law-breaking on the part of RFC?

    Very curious…

Did your dad run the gauntlet at Springfield Road to get to the games?

My da and his brother threw a bhun off the bridge at Dalmarnock Road one night after get chased back by the Springy Road Mob. He foolishly got ahead of the rest…

I doubt you are naive :>)

They keep telling a lie and eventually everybody believes it, that’s no a slight on any Tim, it’s just the way it is, the interweb has taken away their control, we now are starting to question what they tell us, and it’s only been a few years btw.

Big Jock said stick the ball in the net more times than the opposition, of course he was right, but when he said that, it was in response to their cheating.

My Da always said that I was mad to support a football team cos it was rigged, and it was rigged to the benefit of one team, that was back in the early 60’s, maybe I should have listned, I’m glad I didn’t as I would never had the pleasure and honour of being a Tim.

It will be amusing to read the SFA’s excuses if it’s found that the orcs were indeed handing out secondary contracts.

I’m sure the ‘taking at face value’ and ‘no resources to investigate’ will be wheeled out and used up until the moment someone points out that the SFA had all the ‘proper’ contracts as well as the orcs annual reports that had both remuneration figures as well as ‘Contributions to Employee Trusts’.

Oh, did I just point that out?

btw, in 2006, the orcs accounts state that £16.7m was paid out as player wages whilst another £9.2m was paid into EBTs. The HFA have clearly failed in their duties by not asking questions regarding a benefits trust scheme that adds an additional 55% to players payments. It’s also worth noting that given the fact the £9.2m was Net, it saved the orcs a similar amount in Tax and NIC, i.e. the orcs total players wages bill that season should have been in the books as about £35m.

I wonder if Hector might want to investigate whether or not the SFA, as a governing body failed or were in fact complicit, in this scheme.
