I’m sure many of you will be aware of the Vanessa Riddle appeal which has featured in the comments page in recent weeks. Vanessa was diagnosed with a form of childhood cancer in 2009 but after extensive and difficult treatment received the all clear 17 months ago. Last month her parents received news that she had suffered a relapse and that no suitable treatment was available in the UK. Treatment is available in Philadelphia at a cost of £500,000.
Although the diagnosis is only a few weeks old the fundraising effort to send Vanessa to Philadelphia has already raised over £137k with increasing numbers of people becoming aware of the need on a daily basis (CQN’er, Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan is not a man to be denied).
To help raise awareness and funds, Taggsybhoy has booked Jury’s Inn, Glasgow, two nights next month, one of which, Saturday 11th February, he will hold a Music Quiz for the CQN community, with all proceeds going to the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. You may have heard mention of the appeal but if you have not caught the details take a moment to update yourself here. Getting involved is as part of your Celtic heritage as green and white hoops. Don’t forget to book for the quiz, there’s a limit of 70 people for the room so you can’t turn up unannounced. We’re home to the Highanders that day.
Issue 6 of CQN Magazine is currently being prepared; drop me a line if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Guess what Lancashire town I got a fare to this afternoon?
Burnley I guess-fortunately wasn’t at that game!
Bet it was a bit cold up there-bad enough in Manchester today!
copied from Newsnow – Rangers
“Rangers target South African defender Siboniso Gaxa STV 16:33
In the last 2 hours
Zlatan Muslimovic cuts short Rangers trial STV 15:51”
Are Rangers trialling players whose names kinda lookey likely /soundy likey famous players in an effort to dupe their more gullible fans and press ( who may actually be the same people, of course)..?
ha…Muslimovic has left Rangers and gone for a trial at Sunderland with……Martin O’Neil
Oh I’d love to be a fly on the wall in the Murray Park office when they told them this…..
Newco…..
Can cut adrift ANY player they want to. No having to honor contracts for players who are now deemed to be surplus to requirements. Can enter into new commercial contracts without having to honor any old one’s they didn’t fancy
This will more than, way more than, compensate for the loss of 3 years of Europa League income.
The only….yes staggeringly the single , penalty on a Newco would be the statutory one imposed on ANY new club of not being eligible for European competition
In fact thats not even a penalty, it’s a rule that would apply to any New club.
The SPL and the SFA are prepared to countenance Rangers newco getting a direct entry the SPL.
If Rangers lose the EBT, go out of business and reform as a Newco who are accepted into the SPL, the following are the implications.
⦿ It endorses and approves financial recklessness.
⦿ It endorses and approves tax cheating.
⦿ It endorses and approves lying to the football authorities over the players contracts
⦿ It rewards all of the above
⦿ It encourages others to cheat, and renege on payments to suppliers and the Tax authorities
⦿ It says Rangers are more important than Scottish Football
Lets look at a couple of specific comparatives to illustrate the unfairness and dishonesty surrounding any decision to allow Rangers newco into the SPL without having earned the right through 3 consecutive promotions
Steven Whittaker, Kevin Kyle and Morten Rasmussen
3 Players who’s stock has fallen dramatically in recent times, for different reasons.
Whittaker
Clearly now hugely overpaid. At £1 million a year in salary he is an enormous waste of money. Celtic have a multitude of International Right Backs all of whom are considerably better value for money than Whittaker.
Thats relevant because it proves you can sign good International class right backs in the SPL for way less than you have to pay Whittaker.
For Newco, they can merely say to Whittaker, goodbye and no compensation , because you have no contract with us. You could then go out and sign an Adam Matthews, a Mikel Lustig and a Mark Wilson for a total cost of what you were paying Whittaker
from a business and squad building perspective, it’s a no brainer
Morten Rasmussen
Another enormous waste of money . Celtic can’t do a Newco. They can’t just rip up his contract. They will have to pay it up in full…..every thin dime of it, honoring every clause of his contract…..no matter how much it costs
Kevin Kyle
Sadly for him, he has an injury which means he can’t play. Sadly for Hearts they have to pay a guy to sit in the stand who is unable to contribute to his team
So Newco means Rangers get to clean house for free, and everyone else has to fork out £hundreds of thousands and in Celtic’s case £Millions to achieve the same
The Torch has passed along the line quite nicely as far as Rangers are concerned.
⦿ Firstly “free money” from HBOS , which has never and will never be repaid.
⦿ This moved on to free wages, with the use of illegal contracts
⦿ This moved on to a blind eye being turned over Euro entry
and now, if the SPL and the SFA have their way
⦿ Freedom from financial responsibility to players and suppliers.
and why ??
because the SFA and SPL falsely and maliciously claim Scottish Football could not survive a 3 years absence of Rangers from the top league.
Snake Oil salesman had more morals than this bunch
Burnley fans are a bit mental if I remember rightly Googy.

Knew a Bhoy with local knowledge would get that one. No too cold just wet and misty over the tops.
I went to that game with Glasgow University CSC.
It was a bit of a fight. Burnley fans had a bit of a reputation but were no match for about 10,000 Celtic fans.
Using iron railings as javelins that Anglo Scottish cup night, not too funny at all.

As some of you know I m a Labour Councillor with Glasgow City Council we have been developing action plan for the different levels of football in the City. Labour will be putting this forward in the manifesto for the election in May. We are looking for comments or views to take this forward if anyone on CQN has any thoughts I would be happy to include them in our consultation if you want to email me I can be contacted at St.john.doyle@gmail.com
Youth development: We want more Glaswegians coming through the ranks of youth football to play for our big teams and to represent our city in the Scotland team. We will work through our schools and through Glasgow Life facilities and coaches to encourage more young people of talent to develop their skills. To help this happen, we pledge to introduce a happy hour at our five-a-side football pitches, providing our under-18s with free access.
Supporter involvement and ownership: There is much scope for the further development of models of supporter involvement with our clubs and potentially forms of supporter ownership. We will work with supporters and clubs to help broker discussion on this important area.
Glasgow’s Football Congress: We will host a football congress in the close season in the City Chambers. This will bring together supporters with representatives of our teams and community leaders to celebrate the game in Glasgow and to explore ways of working together for the year ahead. We will ask supporters for their ideas on how we can involve them in making our 2014 Commonwealth Games a success and delivering a legacy for all our communities.
Affordability: All supporters are suffering in this recession and our clubs are feeling the effects in lower attendances. We believe that ways of encouraging higher attendances should be explored through lower prices and perhaps a price cap for visiting supporters’ tickets, which will also help to improve the match day atmosphere and enhance spend in our city. The city will do its bit to lower the cost of supporting a football club by working with our car parks and public transport companies to offer park and ride schemes to get supporters to and from grounds at a reasonable price.
Clubs as community hubs: Glasgow has a very good record of working with our clubs to support the community. We are especially proud of the learning partnership which we have with our two big teams to work with young Glaswegians in our schools. We will engage in further discussion with clubs in Glasgow about opening their facilities to community use.
Everyone’s beautiful game: We want to encourage more active lives for all Glaswegians and football is still one of the best ways of doing that. We will use our facilities, including Toryglen football centre, to encourage more girls and women, disabled citizens, and people from black and minority ethnic communities to participate in football. We will work with clubs and the local voluntary sector to put in a Glasgow bid to host the Homeless World Cup.
Everyone’s football club: We will ensure that our proud history of junior and amateur clubs is a key part of Glasgow’s football plan, alongside the big teams. We will explore the potential for establishing a new Glasgow Cup which is for junior or youth teams only.
Everyone’s positive stories: We will promote the Alzheimer’s Scotland football reminiscence project through all our services so that supporters can record their memories in a positive way and share them with others.
Fan zones: We will establish fan zones for the European finals in 2012 and for the World Cup in 2014.
Bye Bye Hunnies…

The one I picked up today certainly was. He had just been in the local Mental Health Hospital. He was alright really and when he seen my phone light up in the Celtic badge he was happy to talk football.
I also find my broadest Glasgow accent that I can summonse is a great comforter.

“Portsmouth supporters are scum, the ones I’ve encountered are as Hunnish as an Orc.”
I won’t question your encounters with some…but I don’t accept your summary of all Pompey supporters. I’ve lived in the area for a few decades now and can tell you there are as many with pro-Celtic sympathies as any other. There’s also a brilliant Irish club in Southsea where the atmosphere is anything but “hunnish”!
On the whole the Pompey fans are a passionate group of supporters who have been let down by a few years of financial mismanagement. Interestingly, if you ask them if they would exchange their current situation for financial stability but without an FA Cup win, Europa League run and a handful of Wembley trips their views are slightly in favour of the FA Cup option.

Yes he said that a few of his friends wanted to cut him up. Sure that must be a friendly passing if bread in those parts.
Not the same meaning as in Glasgow. He told me this shortly after saying he was psychotic.
I changed the subject.

I am so the biggest Zeppelinophile.
I’ve been flung off Follow Follow for arguing that thay were a Celtic (hard ‘c’) band.
There’s along and very boring thesis in me somewhere which will prove the nexus of Blues, Greens and sexual ‘thrutch’ , ( c ) JH Bonham, which personifies the cross between Stalingrad and Laura Ashley which is Led Zeppelin.
I’ve met Robert Plant (thrice) and ambushed Jimmy Page at the Cambridge Folk Festival ( Roy Harper was chatty, the Dark Lord much less so).
I’ve dragged my weans to Bron Yr Aur so often they think it’s lke Benidorm.
I’ve started sing songs in the pub where Jimmy Page bought his goats for Aleister Crowley’s house, albeit unsuccesfully. They were watching Wales in the Rugby World Cup and wanted Bonny Tyler.
Don’t get me started.

You win.
Robert Plant did pull my step daughter out of the audience to dance with him during one of P&P tours.
She also told me Jimmy Page sweated on her as he crossed the stage playing his guitar

I mentioned last night, in response to your original post I think, that, if the Scottish Cup was played on the Saturday, 25 May 2013, the SFA would not have enough time to get down to London to celebrate the FAs 150th anniversary at Wembley. Even so, it yet again shows the arrogance of both the SFA and UEFA towards genuine football fans. And another thing, after the disgrace of last season’s League (Communities?) Cup Final (Sunday March 20), no Cup final should be played on a Sunday in Scotland. As usual, the SFA is not fit for purpose!
