Your supporter groups, your club, your streets

1022

The umbrella group, Fans Against Criminalisation, issued a statement yesterday (kindly published here by Joe O’Rourke on the Association site) which details a number of events in response to Saturday’s policing on Gallowgate, and the resulting response from the SNP government.  Witnesses are invited to give evidence on Saturday (23rd March), with three protests planned next month.

To the relief of all, I’m sure, the statement also records that issues surrounding meetings two organisations had with the Club in November have been resolved.

Our Club and supporters groups are led by the kind of people you would trust with your most precious valuables, as many of us do.  They each strive in new and innovative ways to herd cats in the right direction, with remarkable success.  The tasks, carried out by hundreds of Celtic fans, of running buses, chasing tickets and navigating the impossible political challenges, is often thankless.  I know a few who wonder why they bother.

They bother because they care.  The office-bearers dedicate even more time looking after the common interests.  There are more Celtic heroes than those who wear the hoops.

I hear Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, has appointed Jeffrey Webb, currently head of CONCACAF, as chief of a newly created Fifa body to fight racism in football.  Mr Webb is a director of one of the largest banks in the Cayman Islands, known for its…. unique standards of propriety.  Nice.

Quick word for Tommy in Glasgow…. brilliant!

From CQN Magazine:
Watt a goal. Celtic started this season’s European adventure against HJK Helsinki..”

  1. If the statement from the CST is true then I think PL is in big trouble.

It’s the same as in every walk of life…..it’s the lie that kills you as much as the act itself.

The club have consistently said it’s ludicrous to think the club would assist the police. Sounds now like they may have.

Pedro needs to speak out now and speak out very clearly or he will lose the goodwill of many, many fans.

  2. Aulsheid – I replied the @celticresearch tweet about this. Basically back whean ST was the only guarantee of a seat removing that from persistant breakers of stadium rules was a defacto ban. As we all know losing your ST these days wont stop you going to games. It won’t be a criminal offense to breach stadium rules and if civil actions are too expensive then they’ll want this done so they can ban people that might actually deserve it. Whether they would show suitable restraint in the application of this is up for debate.

I think this action goes back to John Reid and his we are not perfect , clearly they want to sanitise the support of anything that may be controversial, they In my opinion will succeed at the price of emptying the park

  4. There’s a huge difference between volunteering information and fulfilling a legal obligation to respond to a request.

Thanks. That makes sense. It seems to me that in the debate held in the aftermath of Saturday’s events where emotions are rightly high at police over reaction, that it is forgotten that sometimes some folk misbehave at games to such a level it is in the interests of all supporters to ban them.

I can’t think of any such behaviour that wouldn’t result in immediate arrest.

I have been reading CQN for much of its time on line.

I have been inadequately contributing for most of that time.

I respect the site & am grateful to Paul for giving it to us.

Today, I feel compelled to disagree with the man who has given me this gift.

Today’s article finishes with the words,…

‘ Quick word for Tommy in Glasgow…. brilliant! ‘

What Tommy is being praised for was an abuse of the privacy of a man who has not done any harm to Tommy, or to any other person on CQN or anywhere else in the Celtic family.

Tommy gained this guy’s phone number illicitly.

He then proceeded to lie to him & to pretend to be a football agent who could be of benefit to him.

He led Fran Sandaza into a situation where the guy exposed himself to ridicule & even possible physical harm.

I am not sure which part of this is ‘brilliant’.

Tommy has given us many laughs & has been a terrific burster of MSM bubbles.

    I love what he does.

On this occasion, he picked a target who did not deserve to be abused.

    What he did was WRONG.

Let’s post as much as we can while we can bhoys and ghirls.

That may not be much longer if Lawwell, Salmond and all those in between have their way.

It’s hard to disagree with that.

I believe the bill was a well meaning, but ill thought out and rushed piece of legislation. I hope it will be reviewed and repealed, and if not, questions, hard questions will need to be asked. Salmond for all his failings doesn’t seem to possess the love of survielance and curtailment of movement that was the hallmark of the last Labour government. However, that neither justifies or lessens the wrongs of this bill.

    /p

  15. Ernie – lets say you repeatedly cause a nuisance by sitting in the wrong seat and refusing to move when requested up until the point where the police are involved at which point you go quietly and avoid arrest.

In that kind of scenario I can see the club wanting to prevent somebody reentering the ground.

As I said I can see a justifiable reason for it. I remain to he convinced it would be used in acrestrained and acceptable manner.

Brazil 1982. The greatest team not to win the World Cup. Only been in Seville twice, first time supporting Scotland against Brazil, it was hot that night too, and another time about ten years back. Ten years? I thought Bowie said we only had five?

Must have been a year ago – there was a cracking blog one night on Italian International Teams (with Bhoys posting clips) – games v Brazil, France, Germany etc.

I posted the old clips on Gentile and the man-marking of Maradonna – the almost ‘true case’ of when he went to the loo at half-time he looked up and Gentile was standing beside him! :-)

The Brazilian side who played against Italy in the Spain 82 World Cup was probably the best side I have ever seen with the likes of Socrates, Zico, Falcao, Juinor, Eder in there team, they were the last of the great Brazilian footballing sides we are likely to see

Would love to be proved wrong though
