Your supporter groups, your club, your streets

1022

The umbrella group, Fans Against Criminalisation, issued a statement yesterday (kindly published here by Joe O’Rourke on the Association site) which details a number of events in response to Saturday’s policing on Gallowgate, and the resulting response from the SNP government.  Witnesses are invited to give evidence on Saturday (23rd March), with three protests planned next month.

To the relief of all, I’m sure, the statement also records that issues surrounding meetings two organisations had with the Club in November have been resolved.

Our Club and supporters groups are led by the kind of people you would trust with your most precious valuables, as many of us do.  They each strive in new and innovative ways to herd cats in the right direction, with remarkable success.  The tasks, carried out by hundreds of Celtic fans, of running buses, chasing tickets and navigating the impossible political challenges, is often thankless.  I know a few who wonder why they bother.

They bother because they care.  The office-bearers dedicate even more time looking after the common interests.  There are more Celtic heroes than those who wear the hoops.

I hear Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, has appointed Jeffrey Webb, currently head of CONCACAF, as chief of a newly created Fifa body to fight racism in football.  Mr Webb is a director of one of the largest banks in the Cayman Islands, known for its…. unique standards of propriety.  Nice.

Quick word for Tommy in Glasgow…. brilliant!

From CQN Magazine:
Watt a goal. Celtic started this season’s European adventure against HJK Helsinki..”

Only a moron would deny that the GB are a financial asset to the Club.

  2. There is almost zero chance of a safe standing area being approved by the necessary parties in the short to medium term.

The Celtic board know this and it is disengeneous PL to string it our further – he knows it won’t happen.

    I’m sick of their lies.

Last weekend was disgusting, the board’s lack of backbone in the past year or so is disgraceful, but their statements, support of police and inaction over the past couple weeks really disgusts me.

PS as many on here know, I was reasonably supportive of the board and PL until a couple of weeks ago – EVERYTHING points to their lies, that is so so disappointing.

  3. Doc & CRC, I’m watching you two

    Hail Hail

Doc – I will also be bidding, a lot of 50ths this year for my mates, who do take a drink.

Drop me text Fri though and I will do your stuff

  4. Bjmac

Same as you…I was willing to give board some leeway but they have used it all up in the last few weeks. What makes me more suspicious is the muted reaction of others (affiliations and others) that I would have expected more from.

Cheers for the clarification. There is a bit of a difference between not following a procedure properly and the collusion charge that has been made.

If the police ask for details of a person they believe is breaking a law (no matter how unfair/daft/prejudiced it might be)then they will get that information if they press for it.

Now maybe Celtic could make them work harder to get it, but that would only postpone the inevitable and make a nice headline for an obstructing justice charge.

A bit of clarity on the process itself would help though.

Tone it down a bit lads. Cracks about what you imagine, or even know, to be someone’s private life are not pertinent to the opinions in question.

A slagging tournament will only harm the blog.

  7. BJMac,

If the club do make a standing area available for next season, would you re-think?

I am tending to agree with you, I fully supported the Board, but doubts are growing.

However, what I do see is a MSM who want to be able to jump on Celtic divided stories, and so will resist giving them ammunition. The real enemy is not within.

    TimetostandtogetherCSC

  8. CowieBhoy, aye right, you’ll bid for yersel and outbid me because you know my limit!

    That’s cheating’ are you a ………

But obviously that wouldn’t give you a competitive advantage!

    Text you tomorrow.

  9. Would any CQNers be willing to get involved in a Class Action against the SFA regarding the huns cheating, I need to check, however I think you would need to prove financial loss (thanks to Rubicon) therefore may have needed to have purchased a season ticket or even tickets for games ( particularly Scottish Cup)

I’m going to investigate the possibility of this. I’m totally sick at our board not representing anything Celtic – they have failed on all fronts recently.

So with the GB & FAC arranging the demos, which I will again participate, I want to do something around the cheating – time for the fans to do what the board refused to.

having a catholic is more important to you and ernie is more important than having competent people, that’s not surprising from the pair of you, may i remind you both

1/3rd of catholic schools kids in the north east of glasgow leave without a qualification

i’m sure everyone of those kids are so glad they were taught by a catholic teacher

again you’ve proved you don’t give a flying feck for your fellow celtic supporters

Why would Celtic NOT want a safe standing area? Cost?

It would mean no worries about standing in seated areas, a health and safety justification used for trying to get the GB to sit.

    sftb,

I’ve still got a wee bee in my bonnet about him posting links to my personal life, wouldn’t have minded if it was just babble but it was more, I hope he has kept a copy of the picture it might help him recognise me.

  13. Doc – I heard a while back there was no chance. The police need to support it – there is no chance, despite it being their counterparts in Sheffield lying and trying to save their own backsides which resulted in the all sweater stadia In the first place.

    PL knows this, IMO

    Hope you’re well.

Can emdae bring over the pic of the 7000 protesting and marching to Hampden and not a polis in sight. And the picture of Gallowgate carry on with over 200 police on duty?

  15. Auldheid

It isn’t a question of wanting or not wanting, PL knows it ultimately isn’t his decision.

    Hope you’re well, P.

    That’s a bizarre defence.

Please reassure me that you hold no position of power or influence in the SNP.

I wonder how often you realise that you undermine your point by asserting such a spurious simplistic argument.

I thought about listing all of the variables that you omitted from your equation but I thought better of it. Maybe you already know that what you posted was mince.

  17. Bjmac

i think i read on tsfm that shareholders would have a great shout at taking them on..collectively ofourse..cant any of our legal eagles sudgest which rute to take with some relevant advice and guidence h.h

  18. canamalar

Agree it was crass, intrusive, out of order and he should be ashamed of it. He should also be ashamed of researching when any tim joined the GB site. He’s a walking example of why the polis should not be given too much power.

That said, he probably feels validated that he got a reaction from you.

    We have some strange fans.

  19. Doc – thought never crossed my mind.

Do Agree with both you and bjmac – is becoming difficult to stand behind the board – need to see or hear some positive noises quickly and backed up with action

bjmac, the LNS decision should have triggered action from our board in line with what you are looking for, and standing up for Celtic people.

I do not do Twitter or facebook, but will put in the 1st £100 to the fighting fund to challenge them – Doc can provide my number

    Hail Hail

  20. AuldHeid,

I think a fair few Celtic supporters worry the Board don’t have the supports best interests at heart, if the Club are giving supporters details to the Police, that is a betrayal of trust.

The GB are the obvious group to populate a standing area. Some believe the Board want to disband the GB(enough rope, true or not it is out there), if the club are giving the details of the GB to the police they have a point.

    Mistrust breeds mistrust.

    What!!!!!!

Catholics are the biggest ethnic minority in this country and a Catholic cant get into a SNP cabinet in 2 administrations it looks very odd to me.

Given the SNP were founded on an anti-catholic stance maybe it is not surprising

Your party like cosying up to the catholic church but the SNP should be judged by their deeds not their words.

    Chancers one and all

It is you that should be ashamed of your party and their actions over the OB act is now criminalising our supporters because the SNP want to even up the arrests with the racists in the south of the city.

With all due respect you are talking pash

  23. sftb

literacy levels in scotland and glasgow in particular are well down on levels in england and wales and have been for decades and the gap is widening, these issues are taken at local authority level

  24. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    bjmac,

I asked Gregory Londoanis about this a while ago on twitter and he assured me there is a case to be argued but you must prove the SFA knowingly ignored the rules.

Get on twitter and ask him he’s very obliging, you might as well ask if he’ll represent you pro bono :oD)) you never know yer luck.

  25. Auldheid

Safe standing is another non sequitur for reasons explained in the past by The Battered Bunnet, and some others.

In essence, they need to redesign the stadium, or part of, and the way things are going with

current issues, it’s not going to happen anytime soon as ST sales are going to be potentially unserviceable next season.

I know they cheated, you know they cheated but the FTT said what they did was within the law. Until that changes you have no basis to act.

However in expectation of a UTT verdict in HMRC’s favour all that changes. For a kick off the payments not declared as part of player registration will be irregular and the LNS judgement that was based on the FTT findings that no irregular payments took place will be open to questionning.

If I were Celtic I would be persuading the other SPL clubs to delay any decision on accepting LNS until the UTT ruled but they could be outvoted.

An alternative to a class action would be placing a resolution on the AGM agenda that in the event that the UTT Rules in HMRC’s favour that Celtic are directed by shareholders to seek compensation from the SFA.

You can find how to go about that from the CST. You need a resolution that would stand up and a certain number of signatories.

Even if the resolution failed to get passed the reasons for opposing it would have to be given and if it were passed Celtic would have the authority of shareholder backing to strengthen their compensation case and be in a very strong bargainning position re SFA replacement.

  27. st.john.doyle

how many catholics in high office does it then take for it not to become an issue, one, “oh look there’s the token catholic” like eastenders and minority groups, two “aye there just daein it so it doesn’t look token” etc, etc…

i take it you would rather be treated by an incompetent catholic then from someone of another religious persuasion

the very idea that a person’s religion defines who you’d vote for is a joke

i take it i have already migrated to saudi arabia

  28. The only way a standing area for the gb is if the huns are allowed to fastrack.

Appeasesment that is the game plan of the sfa.
