The umbrella group, Fans Against Criminalisation, issued a statement yesterday (kindly published here by Joe O’Rourke on the Association site) which details a number of events in response to Saturday’s policing on Gallowgate, and the resulting response from the SNP government. Witnesses are invited to give evidence on Saturday (23rd March), with three protests planned next month.
To the relief of all, I’m sure, the statement also records that issues surrounding meetings two organisations had with the Club in November have been resolved.
Our Club and supporters groups are led by the kind of people you would trust with your most precious valuables, as many of us do. They each strive in new and innovative ways to herd cats in the right direction, with remarkable success. The tasks, carried out by hundreds of Celtic fans, of running buses, chasing tickets and navigating the impossible political challenges, is often thankless. I know a few who wonder why they bother.
They bother because they care. The office-bearers dedicate even more time looking after the common interests. There are more Celtic heroes than those who wear the hoops.
I hear Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, has appointed Jeffrey Webb, currently head of CONCACAF, as chief of a newly created Fifa body to fight racism in football. Mr Webb is a director of one of the largest banks in the Cayman Islands, known for its…. unique standards of propriety. Nice.
Quick word for Tommy in Glasgow…. brilliant!

Football fans to stage protest over police restrictions
The match will be played at Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium

Fans condemn police ticket sanctions
Hundreds of football fans plan to protest against “draconian” ticket and travel restrictions for Hull City’s game at Huddersfield Town.
Angry supporters have said they will march through Huddersfield before the match on 30 March.
West Yorkshire Police upset away fans saying they must collect tickets from a service station on the M62 and board official buses.
Hull City FC said the decision had led to the “criminalisation” of fans.
As of Thursday lunchtime a spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said discussions over the proposed march were ongoing but no formal application had been received.
The club has given its backing to the protest being organised by the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) and official supporters’ groups.
A statement released on the club website said: “We recognise, and empathise with, the deep sense of grievance over West Yorkshire Police’s effective criminalisation of Hull City supporters.”
Protestors are expected to meet at Huddersfield Railway Station at 13:45 GMT before marching to the town’s Piazza shopping centre.
Amanda Jacks, from the FSF, said up to 300 people, including Huddersfield Town supporters, are due to take part in the demonstration.
“The people of Hull simply want to demonstrate their strength of feeling against how West Yorkshire Police have handled this,” she said.
Supporters are being encouraged to carry non-alcoholic drinks and hold placards stating their profession “so people can see the person behind the fan”.
Restrictions were imposed after the kick-off time for the match at Huddersfield Town’s John Smith’s stadium was changed to 17:20 GMT to allow Sky to broadcast the game live.
Police have previously said “policing higher-risk fixtures later in the afternoon increases the likelihood of disorder over a longer period of time and impacts upon policing the night-time economy”.
nnnnnooooooowwwwwwww……..I am the anti-Chrissssssttt
James Forrest is Neil Lennon! We are ALL Neil Lennon!
Looks like Celtic are required to pass on requests from the police, although there may be procedural questions about how well it is done.

Bit off topic but if Bawface doesn’t announce that there will be elections to choose a new Scottish government at the earliest opportunity after a YES vote for independence, it will be a resounding NO, IMO. In other words he has to assure the electorate that a YES vote is not a vote for him. At this momemt an independent Scotland scares me.

This is a cracking article on the stupidity of the OB Bill

There’s also an excellent report on the Liberty site regarding the bill and it’s implications and serious restrictions on our rights to free expression and liberty. Worth a read.

PL also confirmed press/media reports
that the Club were seeking powers to
have banning orders served on
supporters through civil proceedings
in the Sheriff Court. CT reps pointed
out that this is a weaker burden of
proof compared to criminal cases and
asked why the club did not leave this
to the criminal courts. PL replied that
it would be useful to be able to do this
and agreed that one motivation for
them was that civil proceedings in the
Court of Session for such orders is very
expensive. The Trust reps expressed
their concerns about this development
and said that they were at a loss to
understand why the Club would seek
these powers in their own right as, if
banning orders are warranted then
the courts have ample powers in this
regard. There was no consensus
reached.

Well worth a read, it would be great if members of the general public were to read this to realise that a bill that curtails freedoms for the football fans will eventually curtail their freedoms too..

Beat me to it.
Re sevco saying Sandaza was breaking the SFA rules (OH THE IRONY) never mind getting Wishart in to defend him ,Sandaza should get Bryson in .
If there is a rule that a player can’t talk to an agent about a contract whilst under contract to another club .
Is there a rule that says a player can’t talk to a TAXI DRIVER about a contract whilst under contract to another club .
and ask LNS to preside over the case ..job done
Watching Best of Brazil on ITV4 just now bringing back some wonderful memories.

Also got a reply from my MSP today regarding Saturday , he to is unhappy with the situation and will get back to me with an update after speaking to Police . Also asked for a breakdown of costs involved in Saturdays operation.

Just a couple of lines from Sevco’s head of communications’ article from a couple of months back:
“….Rangers, who are simply getting on with their own affairs asking no favour from anyone.”
and
“We’ll work through the divisions and we will return stronger and better than ever before.”
Anyone know how those promises are going?
Let’s post as much as we can while we can bhoys and ghirls.
That may not be much longer if Lawwell, Salmond and all those in between have their way.

SSB as last night scaremongering about lack of sponsors, the latest “armageddon” facing Scottish football according to HunMedia, coming to a red top near you soon.
You know this often expressed ,usually in the context of league reconstruction, ” we are a laughing stock”
Can i ask, who is actually laughing?
Does anyone care enough outside these borders .does anyone actually care outside the SPL?
Did anyone “laugh” when they heard the new swiss league reconstruction plans.
Is this perhaps more smoke from the Sevco contingent ?
Same thing keeps coming up in my head re this tribute act mob trying to skip a league under reconstruction.
They keep going on about ‘how they will be playing the same teams next year after winning the league this year’. Gonnae sumbdy tell them & Snyde, we are playing the same teams as last year after winning our league, except Dundee, and will do so again next year, as champions, except Dundee & possibly Partick or Morton. So wits the problem, wit dae these zombies no get?
fergus slayed the blues-Have the huns made a statement re Sandaza?
That move by Lawwell is an absolute shocker. He only revealed it because it would soon be in the public domain anyway.
I wonder of Lawwell would prefer in camera court sessions when it comes to the GB. News blackouts etc …
Strip searches at the turnstiles to make sure there are no starry ploughs lurking underneath.
Brain scans to screen out Republican lyrics. And communists.
The possibilities are endless.
midfield maestro –
that very point was made to them last night and the retort started with the usual “with respect” then claimed “it’s different having to return to Hearts and Dundee Utd every season than returning to ‘no disrespect’ Annan and Elgin…”
Numpties lalorrarrem
nottheebus the Edinburgh eejits very much want to keep it within these borders.

I saw reference to amendment but could not find the addition.
The worry would be that innocent supporters could be banned under this route and Celtic would have to be sure this could not happen.
Why Celtic think it necessary to take this risk is the question. What is it about the GB Celtic are so concerned about? Seems overkill for a bunch of over exuberant(at times) youth.
Just watching “Best of Brazil” on ITV4.
Do we draw them in every World Cup group. Just seen us play them three times and I know played them in 74 as well.
Did we play them four times???
