ARZANI THANKS OZ-SOME TEAM-MATE

DANIEL ARZANI has thanked his fellow-Aussie Tom Rogic for all his support during the winger’s injury-jinxed two years at Celtic.

The 21-year-old international, who joined the Hoops on a two-season loan deal from Manchester City in June 2018 after playing in three World Cup games in the Russian Finals, has admitted he is at the crossroads of his career.

Arzani has only made a fleeting appearance as a late substitute in the 2-1 Scottish Cup win over Partick Thiistle in January as he has attempted to attract the attention of boss Neil Lennon.

He was brought to the champions by ex-gaffer Brendan Rodgers, but was carried off on his debut appearance after injuring his ACL in the 5-0 victory over Dundee at Dens Park 18 months ago.

That wiped out his initial campaign at the Hoops and he has remained on the sidelines this time out. However, he has given enormous credit to Socceroos team-mate Rogic for his backing through the black days.

Arzani, speaking to The World Game, said: “Tommy’s been an absolute legend and we still talk about once a week, just checking with what’s going on at the club.

“He’s such a good guy and has helped me so much. Even at the beginning he helped a lot, but also towards the end when I was getting really frustrated with getting injured again he gave me that emotional support.

“Football is a rollercoaster and he was there for me during those tough times.”

Arzani is in the dark over his immediate future, as CQN reported during the week.

He is currently back home in Sydney during the coronavirus shutdown and is preparing for a future away from Glasgow.

He added: “Holland comes up because it’s a selling league and they develop a lot of really good talent there.”

Arzani will have discussion with his parent club, who signed him on a four-year deal, before any decisions about his future are made.

However, it looks as though his ill-fated stay in Scotland is over. Boss Lennon is top heavy with wingers such as James Forrest, Mikey Johnston and Maryan Shved and was able to allow flankers Scott Sinclair and Lewis Morgan to move on during the January transfer window.

Plus there is an offer on the table for Jonny Hayes who is out contract next month.

The support for ‘Fifty Flags’ has been overwhelming and author Alex said: “The response to the book has been utterly astonishing and I can only say how totally grateful I am to CQN readers for their backing. I can only hope it will be worth the wait.

“We are depending on the printers letting us know when the run will commence and we are in their hands at the moment. It will be published this year and CQN will keep the readers up to date. Thanks for your patience, folks. It’s much appreciated.
