CELTIC MISFIT IN LINK WITH MOURINHO

CELTIC loan flop Charly Musonda is poised for a remarkable move to Joe Mourinho’s Roma.

The one-time Belgian wonderboy, now 25, will be released by Chelsea at the end of his contract in June.

Musonda has rarely figured at Stamford Bridge, despite arriving with a glowing reputation 10 years ago.

Brendan Rodgers believed he had pulled off a signing coup when landed the playmaker on an 18-month loan deal in January 2018 with tales Real Madrid were also attempting to lure him the La Liga.

HELLO – AND FAREWELL…Charly Musonda during one of his fleeting appearances for Celtic.

However, Musonda, despite the over-the-top hype, failed spectacularly at Parkhead and made only three starts and had his temporary transfer deal scrapped with a year still to run.

At the time, he took to social media to post a heartfelt farewell and, in a report in CQN, said: “I’d like to thank all of the Celtic family, spending the second half of the season in such a prestigious club with its incredible fans was an experience to cherish, to receive number 67 and have your incredible support, everywhere in Glasgow was amazing.

“I will never forget the noise of a European night at the Park, and to be a part of it and witness it first hand was an experience that’s made me more hungry for that stage, and that’s thanks to you, and the players that just won the league seven times in a row and hopefully a double treble.

“I will be a supporter of Celtic forever, I’d like to thank Brendan Rodgers for giving me that opportunity and guidance every single day, as I continue on my quest.”

MUSONDA TODAY…a bulked-up 25-year-old could be heading for Rome.

Musonda’s future looked in jeopardy after being told he would not be offered an extension by Chelsea, but it looks as though he is heading for the Serie A with Mourinho interested in signing him for the Italian giants, according to sports media outlet Goal.

Hellas Verona are also reported to be monitoring the impending free agent who has also had loan spells at Real Betis and Vitesse Arnhem.

Musonda suffered a career-threatening injury at the Dutch outfit in 2018 and specialists only gave him a 20 per cent chance of playing again after he tore his posterior cruciate ligament in a friendly against Antwerp. However, the player has battled his way back to fitness and has been fully fit for almost a year, but Chelsea have used him sparingly in their Under-23 side.

Now he is on the brink of a surprise move to join up with Mourinho in Rome.
