LAZIO BOSS LAMENTS ‘TWO MIRACLES’ FROM FORSTER

DEJECTED Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi bemoaned his side’s bad luck in their 2-1 Europa League loss to Celtic at a rocking Parkhead last night.

The Serie A outfit took the lead in the first-half through Manuel Lazarri, but Ryan Christie swept in an equaliser in the 67th minute and Christopher Jullien bulleted in an unstoppable late header for the win.

The result means the Hoops will secure a place in the last 32 if they can win at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome a week on Thursday.

Inzaghi, speaking in the post-match press conference, said: “Celtic are a top team with top players.

“We prepared well, but the result went Celtic’s way. We hope it’ll be different in two weeks.

“We definitely had one of our best performances of the season, we didn’t deserve to lose. The only thing I can reproach the team for is the way we conceded the second goal.

“We played well and didn’t risk much and, in fact, we created a lot.

“Unfortunately, we found the post and a super goalkeeper on two chances which we deserved to score for what we’d produced.

“Tonight against a high-level opponent we played well for the whole match, unfortunately we missed chances to score.

“Correa hit the post and then there were two miracles from the goalkeeper.

“We should have taken something from the game, but we lost, now we look forward with confidence.

“We’re behind now, so we absolutely have to win the next games. We’ll try to play them in the best way possible.

“We’ve now played all three teams in the group and we have to try to do more.

“We want to repeat tonight’s game, not the result, but the compactness we showed on the pitch.”

Neil Lennon’s men are top of Group E with seven points from three games following the 1-1 draw with Rennes in France and the victories over Cluj, where Odsonne Edouard and Mohamed Elyounoussi scored for a 2-0 triumph, and last night’s comeback triumph.

Lazio also lost their first game 2-1 in Romania and the Hoops will face a real test in Rome in their next game as they attempt to secure European football after Christmas.
