LENNON v LENNON

NEIL LENNON has already been on the receiving end of a shock result against namesake Danny in a Cup competition.

The Celtic boss winced as St Mirren overcame his side 3-2 in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden in 2013 on a day to forget for the Hoops.

Now Danny is hoping to emulate that achievement when the holders arrive for this afternoon’s 2pm kick-off in their Scottish Cup encounter at Broadwood, a venue that proved to be a massive banana skin to Gordon Strachan’s holders in 2006.

The Parkhead side, with Roy Keane making his debut, toppled to a sensational 2-1 loss in Cumbernauld on a frosty, rutted pitch that, ironically, proved to a real leveller on the day.

Lennon was captain that fateful afternoon and he made his recollections of a horrible result fairly evident yesterday, as CQN reported.

As he prepared for today’s confrontation, he told the Daily Record: “There was a huge motivation for them that day and I’m sure it’ll be the same this weekend. We’ll have to be careful.

UP FOR THE CUP…Patryk Klimala hopes to make his first start against Clyde.

“Danny is a football man, he’s technically astute and will come with a game-plan. We’ll be wary.

“We’re not going to take it lightly. We’re the Cup holders and we want to defend the trophy.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re focused, professional and do everything we can to get to the next round.

“We just have to pick a decent team and go there and win.”

Recent recruits Patryk Klimala and Ismaila Soro could get an outing while the likes of Ryan Christie, Tom Rogic and Mohamed Elyounoussi could get some much-needed game-time.

Lennon added: “We’ll try and rotate the team, but not too much. We don’t want to take any chances, but there are a couple of players wanting to play, itching to play, so we will think about it.

“It’s pretty hectic. Recovery is important. I thought we played ever so well on Wednesday night, so that in itself will bring confidence to the group.

“We are getting a few players back from injury, as well, which is great.

“We have started the second half of the season really, really well.”
