LENNY IN BROONY HISTORY HINT

SCOTT BROWN sat out the entire 90 minutes of Celtic’s well-merited 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Parkhead yesterday.

The club captain viewed the must-win confrontation from the stand as Callum McGregor led the team to three points with second-half goals from Mohamed Elyounoussi and Shane Duffy.

However, boss Neil Lennon has hinted heavily 35-year-old Brown could be back for the delayed Scottish Cup Final against Hearts at Hampden on Sunday.

The former Scotland international leader has moved aside with Ivorian pocket dynamo Ismaila Soro taking over the anchorman role and putting in excellent performances in last week’s 3-2 Europa League Group H triumph over Lille and the win over the Rugby Park side.

Brown has been a key member of the Hoops team that swept to nine successive titles and is still aiming to play a massive role in the club’s historic bid for 10 in a row although the champions have a fight on their hands following uncharacteristic outings that have seen them shed points.

The Parkhead men, of course, ate 90 minutes away from making glorious history when they take on the Edinburgh outfit in the showpiece showdown at the national stadium. They can win their twelfth consecutive domestic honour while sealing the unprecedented quadruple treble.

Lennon, speaking to BBC Sportsound, insisted he would not overlook individuals who have been major players in the remarkable sequence of success and said: “I think I should show a bit of loyalty to some of the boys who’ve been there, done that and got us there.

“I’ll look at it this week. It’s an important game to finish off the remnants of last season.

“It’s a game we want to win and another trophy that’s up for grabs.”

“It will be a tough decision. There might be one or two of the new faces in there, but I’d like to think the hardcore that got us there deserve an opportunity to play in it.”
