LENNY REVEALS SIGNING TALKS WITH DUO

NEIL LENNON admitted he is in contract extension talks with Craig Gordon and Jonny Hayes.

The former Scotland international keeper and the versatile Republic of Ireland star are free to walk when their deals expire this summer.

Gordon, 37, has grown increasingly frustrated at playing back-up to Fraser Forster who arrived back at the club in August on a season-long loan arrangement from Southampton.

The one-time England shotstopper is due to return to the south coast club next month which adds to Lennon’s complication. If both keepers leave at the same time, it will leave the Hoops gaffer with only Scott Bain in charge of the gloves.

Hayes, 32, who cost £1.3million when Brendan Rodgers bought him from Aberdeen in 2017, had been linked with several Championship clubs during the January transfer window.

Of course, that situation has been altered dramatically with the English second tier certain to take a heavy financial hit in the fall-out of the coronavirus pandemic.

Lennon told The Scotsman: “Talks are ongoing with representatives and the club. I don’t really know where we are at this stage.

“We have until the end of June to get agreements in place one way or the other.”

The Hoops gaffer was speaking on the day he announced coach Damien Duff was quitting at the end of next month to take over as an assistant manager to Stephen Kenny in the Republic of Ireland international set-up, as CQN reported earlier today.
