‘MY FOCUS IS ON CELTIC,’ RODGERS

BRENDAN RODGERS has dismissed the remarkable claims by Ibrox chairman Dave King’s that Celtic’s dominance could collapse like “a pack of cards”.

The champions secured their seventh successive Premiership title when they hammered King’s club 5-0 at Parkhead last month and a triumph over Motherwell in the Scottish Cup Final on May 19 will bring a historic double treble.

The Govan club’s owner said: “We only need one league. We don’t need two or three. Once we take one away, it’s a pack of cards.”

However, ahead of tomorrow night’s league game against Kilmarnock at Parkhead, Hoops boss Rodgers said: “We’re defined by what we do, not on anyone else. It is something I’ve always said: ‘Can we be the best that we can be?’

“We do that by having a strategy off the pitch that allows us on the field to work with players, make them better, and, hopefully, win as many games as we can.

“We always respect every team, but I am not one to be looking over the garden fence at anyone else.

“We have to be defined by what we do and I couldn’t be happier with the way the club is developing and improving, but we always have to be better.

“You always have to be aware of your competitors, you can’t be naive enough to not understand and have a little think of what the others are doing.

“But it is not something that is at the forefront of my mind. My focus is very much on our club.”
