‘NO RUSH TO SIGN DEAL,’ BOYATA

BELGIAN international defender Dedryck Boyata has admitted he is in no rush to sign a new contract with Celtic.

The defender’s current deal runs until June 2019, but boss Brendan Rodgers would like the situation settled as quickly as possible.

Last year, the Hoops gaffer was involved in lengthy talks with Stuart Armstrong before the midfielder eventually agreed a 12-month extension.

However, he has no intention of getting involved in a similar scenario with any player this time around.

Ronny Deila signed Boyata, 27, from Manchester City for £800,000 in July 2015, but it was only after the turn of the year last season he became Rodgers’ first-choice centre-half.

Asked about a new contract, he replied: “I’m not in a rush. Of course, being there, it’s good, but I don’t know what is going to happen in the future.

“It doesn’t really depend on them or even me, we will just see what happens.

“At the moment, we are still talking about it. For the moment, I am a Celtic player and I love Celtic.

“It’s a great team, I love to be there. Whatever happens next, we will see, but for the moment I cannot really say anything about it.”
