CELTIC CULT HERO IN CLUB SEARCH

FORMER Celtic star Efe Ambrose is still in the hunt for a new club after leaving St Johnstone in the summer.

The 33-year-old Nigerian international became a cult hero with the Hoops fans during his five years after Neil Lennon bought him from Israel top-flight club FC Ashdod for around £800,000 in August 2012.

He had six months on loan at Blackburn Rovers before being released by Brendan Rodgers in 2017 and then hooking up again with Lennon at Hibs where he won a Championship medal.

Ambrose completed the season on loan at Dunfermline who were relegated to the third tier.

ON THE MOVE…Efe Ambrose races into attack during his Celtic days.

There have been reports stating the right-back or central defender is about to return with Championship side Hamilton Accies, but head coach John Rankin moved quickly to clear up the matter.

Ambrose is working out with the New Douglas Park club, but the gaffer has no plans to make the situation permanent and, speaking to the Daily Record, insisted: “Efe has been in training. We’ve been allowing him to come in and use our facilities.

“He’s a great pro, he’s a great guy to have about the place and we let him play in a reserve game last night.”

Since leaving the Hoops, the 51 times-capped performer has also had stints at Derby County and Livingston.

However, the search for a new club continues for Ambrose who won four league titles at Parkhead.
