‘I FELT GUILTY LEAVING CELTS,’ IZZY

EMILIO IZAGUIRRE insists losing his Celtic first team place to Kieran Tierney was not the reason he left the champions last summer.

The Honduran international defender joined Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Fayha after seven years at Parkhead.

Izaguirre, who won six league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups at the Hoops, made fewer than 20 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the Irishman’s first campaign with the champions.

The 31-year-old defender said: “It’s very difficult to talk about. There will be a day when I can talk about my departure.

“I don’t want to, but it was due to personal problems I had with agents in England. That’s why I left.”

Izaguirre, capped 98 times, said: “It was hard for me to leave and I felt guilty leaving.

“It was hard with my wife and children because of personal things that happened to us.”

But Izaguirre may not have given up hope of an unlikely return to the east end of Glasgow.

He added: “I left the door open, and you never know what could happen tomorrow.”
