Another decision day. This one likely to be real.

311

Lots of news is likely to come your way today, so just a brief catch up:

This is very much a false dawn for anyone hoping to rescue Rangers via a Creditors’ Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).  While Duff and Phelps can accept a deposit from a third party planning CVA, that party would then need to negotiate with HMRC, which is another story altogether.

On Friday evening Duff and Phelps gave strong indications that they would work with the Blue Knights to enable them to secure preferred bidder status today.  Although there were many obstacles in their way the key one for me appeared to be Duff and Phelps belief that Ticketus would be able to convince Craig Whyte to delivery his shares to a buyer without holding out for a substantial payment.

As you know, Craig Whyte is the only game in town and achieving this seemed remarkably ambitious.  Indications this morning suggest those ambitions have not been achieved.

We hear this morning that despite their love and loyalty to the club the Blue Knights have still not found the £500k required to before preferred bidder and that any bid submitted today is likely to remain as conditional as the ‘bids’ they submitted earlier in the process.

Our favourite, Bill Miller, has placed Duff and Phelps in an interesting position with the offer of hard cash, although his press release on Friday also contained many impossible to deliver conditions.  He will now know that the SPL and SFA will not acquiesce to his demands for a pack of Get out of Jail Free cards.

This may be enough to encourage Miller to drop out of the process but unlike the Blue Knights, who appear to seriously expect Craig Whyte to shrug his shoulders and walk away, Miller must have known his demands of the SFA and SPL were highly speculative.

If Miller submits his offer to ‘wire’ £500k into the creditors’ pot today, with or without SFA/SPL conditions, Duff and Phelps cannot allow his offer to expire without accepting it or an alternative.

    was a straight red.

And it was on that wee slovakian diddy from man city, Vladimir Weiss.

annoyed me him going there, as I watched him a few times when I went to see the inlaws, and thought he would have looked good in the hoops.

However his diving when he went to mordor put me right off him.

Still love slovaks, and his dad is a good manager of the national side.

    Just him!

    grrrrrrrr

  2. Anybody know who from Big Victor’s family was there yesterday.

Walking up to the game I saw a group of men women and a wee girl getting out a car and walking to the game. I said to the kids that looks like Big Vic but my bhoy just said something like

“youre terrible dad” I was like no it does.

On way out the ground a women showed the kids with us pictures of her and VIC’s brother. My bhoy was gutted and was wondering if it was Vic’s big Brother McDonald Maninga ??

    I think he said.

    Anybody know ?

  3. Am I right in saying those on the RTC blog think it is a creditor who has moved for court on wednesday?

Is there not some rule that Duff&Duffer have to go back to court to report what they have done so far?

    ASonofDan,

I would have expected D&F’s names to have been on the notice if it was just them reporting

Thanks mate I really do sympahise and empathise as I was young and stupid once too. I was out buying expensive cameras, good suits, good meals etc etc etc then one day I got a letter from my bank manager asking for a meeting. Iwas told to give back my cheque guarantee card and cheque book and was forced into having to use a budget account. Hellish times which luckily I learned from. Mr McCawber is spot on , spend less than you earn and if you can’t pay cash–don’t buy it.

Wish you all the best through the hard time but at least you’ve realised the situation you are in.

About to add that your outgoings can be divided into essential e.g. Mortgage, taxes and non essential e.g. Going out or a smartphone contract

I did for twelve months, the year after getting a mortgage and years later its still ingrained, you’ll find out whether you need to get a 2nd job as I had to do because I wanted to go on holiday and couldn’t do it on my bare wage.

So Craig Whyte finally makes his move to get his floating charge after all the bidders refuse to offer him money for his shares?

  9. Lennon n Mc….Mjallby, I’m as keen as anyone to hear from Harper McLeod on the non-contract payments issue but if it was me I would probably wait until the FTT reports. Until now all they have to work with is what Rangers tell them but it is likely the FTT report will make material assertions. If Rangers do not reveal the entire truth and Harpers report based on that information a fresh inquiry would be needed after the FTT reports.

    Patience.

  11. One of the many reports I’ve read (can’t remember which) hinted that the SPL inquiry hadn’t got all of the paperwork it needed from D&P.

Could be incompetence. Could just be the mess things are in. Or maybe that shredder contract had something to do with it?? (For any lawyers reading, this is a joke not a serious accusation).

  12. I don’t care WHO referees the last Glasgow Derby.

At no meaningful level do I even care about winning it.

I only care that it is the last time we will have be part of this hate-filled & shameful encounter.

Winning it would be quietly satisfying as always, but no more than that.

They are a corrupt & vile institution, dying in shame & headed for a well deserved oblivion in a Hell of their own making.

    Just relish the moment.

Maybe it would be better if we were blatantly cheated one last time & could move on to whatever & wherever the future takes us, remembering just how it has been for all those poisonous years.

It is a totally meaningless end-of-season fixture for Scotland’s CHAMPIONS.

    Don’t allow them to matter.

We do not celebrate when a mad dog is put down.

We are just glad to be rid of it.

He concocts colourful metaphors and striking similes with the élan of a matador.

CELTIC have inflicted another defeat on Rangers — by sealing a £100,000-plus deal for prized Airdrie United kid Tony Watt.

SunSport can reveal the Hoops will make an £80,000 down payment for the 17-year-old striker and there will be further payments depending on his first team development.

Watt had also been closely pursued by Rangers and had enjoyed a brief training spell with the champions but it’s understood their financial constraints prevented them being more decisive.

It’s the second time in a matter of weeks Gers have been outfoxed in the transfer market by their bitter rivals over a top prospect.

Midfielder Dylan McGeough stunned Rangers by quitting Murray Park for Parkhead on a pre-contract.

The clubs are currently in talks over a fee to avoid a tribunal verdict on McGeough, 17, which could see Rangers entitled to at least £180,000.

Watt — just six months with the Diamonds’ first team squad — had a week training with Liverpool a few months ago while Fulham were also keen.

He had been expected to feature in yesterday’s Scottish Cup tie at Beith but was left out by boss Jimmy Boyle after a Celtic package had been agreed.

Watt will get a bumper wage rise and the chance of a lifetime, while Division Two Airdrie will bank vital cash.

  18. Gordon_J – Indeed, not sure on reliability of source on that one however I don’t think it will be long until somebody does this for real….D&P are looking a tad “dithery”

  20. 07 Jan, 2011

CELTIC have today completed the signing of teenage striker, Tony Watt from Airdrie United.

The 17-year-old, who has already made 15 league appearances for the Airdrie United first-team this season, scoring three goals, has joined the Hoops on a three-year contract.

“It’s the team I support and this is where I want to be,” the young striker said. “It’s a big weight off my shoulders. I’d been hoping to have it confirmed for a few weeks now and I’m just delighted to have signed.”

It’s not the first time that the Coatbridge Bhoy has worn the Hoops, however. He played as a trialist in the recent youth game against Liverpool at Celtic Park, and it was an experience that made him desperate to become a Celtic player on a full-time basis.

“We played on the Saturday against Stenhousemuir,” he said, “and the gaffer (Jimmy Boyle) spoke to me after the game and said Celtic were interested in me, and that they wanted me to play in a game at Celtic Park against Liverpool the following Tuesday, and I think I did okay.

“It was a massive boost to actually play on the park where I’d been coming to watch for a few years, and it was a brilliant experience, even being in the changing-room where you know the first-team get ready before every game.”

Watt, who only turned 17 at the end of December, got the lowdown on Celtic from Airdrie United team-mate and former Hoops youth player, Philip Johnstone, while he will also now link up with another former St Andrew’s, Coatbridge pupil in John Heron, who’s already at the club.

“I spoke to Philip briefly and asked him about how it was and he told me it was brilliant,” Tony Watt said, “and I was happy to hear that and it made me want it even more.

“I’m going into the 19s squad and I’ll train with them and hopefully I’ll be able to do well.

“It’s a massive boost to have people like Chris McCart wanting to sign me and it’s a great thing for my confidence, so I’m determined to work hard and repay that faith the club have shown in me.”

Chris McCart, Celtic’s Head of Youth, said: “We are delighted to have confirmed Tony’s signing on a three-year contract.

“He is a young player with real potential, who has already played in and scored for the Airdrie first-team this season.

“We have been monitoring his progress there for a number of months now and he had a very successful trial period here at Celtic Park, where he played in our youth game against Liverpool.

“Tony’s a young player with a very bright future and we are just delighted to have completed this

  21. In defence of Duff n Duffer, if nobody actually puts an offer in what are they suppossed to do apart from liquidate? I’d prefer that to happen the week before the new season begins.
