CELTIC defenders Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor have been axed from the Scotland squad for next month’s double-header against Cyprus and England.
International boss Steve Clarke has overlooked the Hoops full-backs while skipper Callum McGregor is the solitary player from the champions who is included in the 25-man pool for the games in Larnaca and Hampden.
It means Ralston and Taylor will miss out on the crucial Euro 2024 encounter against the Cypriots a week on Friday and the 150th Anniversary Heritage Match against Gareth Southgate’s side at the national stadium the following Tuesday.
SPLASH-HIT…Callum McGregor fires in Scotland’s opener in the 2-0 Euro win over Georgia at Hampden in June.
It’s no surprise McGregor continues to be selected by Clarke after a sequence of high-level displays for his nation, including the 2-0 win over Georgia in June when he claimed the opening goal at rain-lashed Hampden.
The Scots are top of their qualifying group with a 100 per record of four successive triumphs.
