FF – excellent, one save to make and he did it well.
Back four/five. Matthews still looking rusty, Fisher was uncomfortable at left back until the second half. Maybe he was given some instructions at half time. Efe and VVD are just brilliant. Don’t think Efe is getting enough credit because VVD is so awesome.
Midfield. Brown is the weak link. He had a rotten game today, but even so, he’s way behind Commons, Johansen and Biton. There’s a wide right mid slot up for grabs. Biton is imperious. He reminded me of Petrov a lot. Breaking up play so many times. And also covering for VVD when he foraged forward.
Stokes. Looked lively and more enthusiastic than I’ve ever seen. Goals come when you put in the effort and have the skill.
Griffiths. Really looks to be enjoying being a Celtic player, but maybe trying too hard to impress. No need to. See above. And he definitely puts in the effort.
Don’t start me on signs. Seen one the other week, says “Caution – this sign has sharp edges.” Nothing else.

Agree with all of that. Brown today was most definitely the weakest link. Once Johanssen gets a full pre season under his belt and bulks up in the gym he is going to be so important for us next season. He does the horrible jobs like closing down and covering for others and when in possession is always looking for a forward pass. Dare I say he looks like a more attacking Kayal when he first arrived?

It’s truly amazing the number of wrong offside awards we have had against us over the years. If in doubts with a Celtic player penalise the attacker.
I say that going as far back as seeing I Bobby Lennox get the first of many disputed awards go against him against Liverpool in 1966. Nearly 50 years on and Leigh Griffiths found out today what happens when a hoops player is close to offside. No benefit of the doubt to the attacker. Seems it was always so.
Two other observations from today.
A much better crowd than the SMSM has been predicting all week BUT ,and what must be a cause for real concern for the money men, the Hospitality seats in 404 /5/6 have never been emptier IMO.
Return of the GB made an enormous difference to the whole game giving a life and a sparkle in the stadium that’s been missing for weeks.

What a lift a good Celtic performance gives us all. We can see areas of the team where good partnerships are being formed, Efe and Virgil, Nir and Stefan. I think it is vital though that we start hanging on to players for longer. We can maybe afford to let one go per season but it would be unforgivable if both Fraser and Virgil were allowed to leave in the summer. Virgil must stay for at least another season. We need to find a better balance between team development and developing players for sale.

Thought Biton and Johansen looked a very, very good central midfield pairing.
Biton reminded me of how Neil Lennon used to play. He is positionally switched on, reads the game superbly and puts out fires before they get started with his timely interventions. He keeps it nice and simple and very rarely gives the ball away. All good teams need a player like that. I hope he plays every week from now until the end of the season as he’ll be a key member of the squad going into the Champions League qualifiers.
I really like the look of Johansen. He is full of running and always wants to do something positive when in possession. I thought he and Biton complemented each other’s play very well. Early days but the signs are good.
Where does that leave Scott Brown? Right midfield or on the bench, frankly. I like him but he doesn’t have the discipline or game intelligence to be ahead of Biton or Johansen in the central positions. Just my opinion.
