Dissonance as well as rubbish football afflicts Hearts

1078

Our old friend Cognitive Dissonance was at play again last night.  Hearts manager, Paolo Sergio, seemed to accept Stephen Elliot’s second minute attempt was cleared so quickly officials might not have had a chance to ascertain if it crossed the line, but he tried to reconcile his frustration at this reality by publicly adopting a position which, on reflection, he should accept is in contravention to the rules of the game.

Elliot’s attempt struck Joe Ledley, who was standing on the line with his arms stationary and by his side, before being cleared by Fraser Forster.

Sergio said, “If you don’t see the ball over the line then you should see the handball which is a penalty and a red card.”

It’s scarcely credible that the Hearts manager is unaware of the rules of the game which clearly establish that for a handball offence to be committed the player needs to deliberately use a hand or arm to play the ball, not have the ball played against his stationary hand or arm.

No one had much of a clue whether the ball had crossed the line or not until after watching multiple TV replays and even then, while I can understand the attacking team claiming a goal, TV evidence does not provide conclusive proof that the whole of the ball crossed the line.

This will no doubt be the source of Sergio’s frustration; his team could have taken the lead but didn’t.  Armed with this frustration he then created a false scenario which allowed him to reconcile his feelings of grievance.

What a shower.  Struggling to operate in the SPL and pay tax, disorganised team structure and afflicted by football’s Cognitive Dissonance epidemic.

    Welcome mate.

Thanks Paddy, I’m new to this so I hope I can keep up!

Next game can’t come quick enough.

    Hail,Hail!

  2. Just to ego some of the praise for the “team”. We have a very big squad but many members are making a big contribution to the cause. There are not many passengers and as many as 20 players are pulling their weight when required. The management team must take a great credit for this.

    Long may it continue.

Sorry I dont get your point

You seem to be saying you have more respect for Dublin based Rangers fans than you do for Dublin based Liverpool/Man Utd fans

    unless I have misunderstood

You dont seem to like Dublin much (again maybe I have mis understood you)

  4. Roddy Forsyth in the Telegraph saying we have a good young squad with great depth that could dominate Scottish football for years. But what chance have we of keeping it together. “Not much” opines none other than Criag Levein ffs.

While it’s understandable that we on here might be concerned that some players will move on, why do I find it so galling that Forsyth says saomething similar? Apart from quoting Levein I suppose its because you can almost hear him will that our best players shall leave. A crumb of comfort, ‘they cannae keep this team together’. Its like on Hun forums when they tell each other we must be facing financial ruin as well because we’ve not had champions league money.

If we can keep this squad together and maybe add to it ,we could dominate scottish football for the next few years.A friend text me the other day saying we can do ten in a row.I would settle for one in a row to start.

As regards the squad and developing it I would be averse to seeing us sell a player every now and then at a big profit and replacing him with a good young player coming through the ranks

I think James Forest coming in after Aiden was sold for 10 million is a perfect example

Anyone else catch the ghuy who rang Synde last night demanding Keevins apologise for insulting people who suffer from paranoia in the context of the chorus of condemnation that greeted a caller making an analogy to people having Alzheimer’s disease.

Picky but clever and Keevins wasn’t man enough to say ‘ok, you got me… ‘

Made me smile listening to his gears whirl trying to find a way out.

Yes great call, callers name is frank and there is another caller called terry, 2 legends.

  8. What is the stars

You are spot on, I do respect a rangers fan who knows who he is and his culture above a Dub who supports who is winning in ingerlund at the time or to keep in with his pals.

This town has no integrity in my experience. Who goes on a shopping spree in Buchanan St with the wife dolled up and wearing a football tracksuit? Only in Dub.

Ps I saw your post on a killing up north, we had a 16 year old traveller crossfire killing this week too, what is your point?

A poster called Coorslad asked was there any news on the shooting in Buncrana so I posted the link

that was my point, helping out a fellow CQN er

Good to know where we stand

You prefer Dublin based Rangers fans to Dublin based EPL fans

    Fair enough,live and let live

Do you live in Dublin, you seem to dislike the “dubs”

  12. why people think rangers will go bust and another will be born, taking their stadium, fans, strip, name, t.v deal, league place etc… is all bull

no way will that be allowed to happen, if the sfa/ slp, rangers fans think that they are all stupid hmrc will demand full payment of money because your essentially bringing the same company back under a different name.

for what its worth i think administration is most likely outcome, with ranger suffering years of paying back their creditors.

if newco comes into being it will not

Aye, hoisted so high by their own petard their legs were (metaphorically) left kicking helplessly.

A similar(ish) point was crying out to be made when they aggressively rejected charges of a past lack of exposure of the hun’s tax problems. Their defence was they were told by the MBM this and that… I was desperate to ask if they had heard of the concept of investigative journalism and if they would extend their theological faith in the word of MBM to me. I could have assured them that Santa will not deliver presents to naughty boys…

Sorry for the reply on shooting, I did not see the connection earlier, pissed off with the killing this week in Tallaght(wee lassie , disaster)

Yes, I am annoyed with Dub in terms of foot and I will lay it out thus:

Why don’t you join English league?

You are crap cos you win all the time.

You are crap cos you lost this week.

You guys don’t like Protestanyt do you?

Neil brings it on his self doesn’t he?

You are scum from the Northside aren’t you?

OMG you are playing at Lansdowne!!!!!

  20. Coneyboy,

Ps I saw your post on a killing up north, we had a 16 year old traveller crossfire killing this week too, what is your point?

Coneyboy, news of a shooting up North is now news, because it is not often now that there is a killing up here..but Dublin,Cork and Limrick, seem to have a steady stream of shootings and stabbings.
