Dissonance as well as rubbish football afflicts Hearts

1078

Our old friend Cognitive Dissonance was at play again last night.  Hearts manager, Paolo Sergio, seemed to accept Stephen Elliot’s second minute attempt was cleared so quickly officials might not have had a chance to ascertain if it crossed the line, but he tried to reconcile his frustration at this reality by publicly adopting a position which, on reflection, he should accept is in contravention to the rules of the game.

Elliot’s attempt struck Joe Ledley, who was standing on the line with his arms stationary and by his side, before being cleared by Fraser Forster.

Sergio said, “If you don’t see the ball over the line then you should see the handball which is a penalty and a red card.”

It’s scarcely credible that the Hearts manager is unaware of the rules of the game which clearly establish that for a handball offence to be committed the player needs to deliberately use a hand or arm to play the ball, not have the ball played against his stationary hand or arm.

No one had much of a clue whether the ball had crossed the line or not until after watching multiple TV replays and even then, while I can understand the attacking team claiming a goal, TV evidence does not provide conclusive proof that the whole of the ball crossed the line.

This will no doubt be the source of Sergio’s frustration; his team could have taken the lead but didn’t.  Armed with this frustration he then created a false scenario which allowed him to reconcile his feelings of grievance.

What a shower.  Struggling to operate in the SPL and pay tax, disorganised team structure and afflicted by football’s Cognitive Dissonance epidemic.

  1. ConeyBhoy, sorry for spelling your name wrong.

Seen the young girl killed this week,so sad.Do you think the rise in crime of this sort is due to the influc of different nationalities..Seems à Lot of peole being charged are non nationals..

I am presuming these are questions put to you by Dubliners ?

Why don’t you join English league?

Its a silly question of course,Celtic are a Scottish team and play in a Scottish League but I am sure if it was possible they would like to play in a better/stronger more financially viable league.

You are crap cos you win all the time. (again its a silly thing to say,how crap would we be if we lost all time)

You are crap cos you lost this week. (just ignore silly comments like that) By the way if you ever logged on here after Celtic lose or draw you will see plenty of statements like that

You guys don’t like Protestanyt do you? (who cares,I dont like anybody to be honest)

Neil brings it on his self doesn’t he? (obviously not)

You are scum from the Northside aren’t you? (well are you, ? i know I am)

OMG you are playing at Lansdowne!!!!! (no comment, too silly)

So to be honest Coneybhoy I wouldnt get upset about any of the above

You live in Dublin I presume. Its not such a bad place

Your pals are right about one thing you said earlier “The Scottish league is Crap” Unfortunately it is ,the standard is generally very poor.

But we have to soldier on

  3. Colds lad

I was having a banter with someone who threw in a comment about a shooting which seemed random and irrelevant so I mentioned a local one – turns out there were several conversations at the same time and I have apologized for bringing it up and do so again.

    Sorry

  4. its good business to sell players when good bids come in, but to get big bids the players need to be successful, so long as you keep producing/ finding young players its all good

    but

we have a squad of about 40 players which needs to be cut down to about 23 players max, with our young players used thereafter. keep the current team together with only small changes to that team each year, with changes to playing staff gradually taking place, maintaining stability at the club and ensuring the team does not suffer from the changes.

first players to go are the 7 bosmans in the summer then paddy, mcginn, jaurez, murphy, radmussion, ki this summer for 7 million +

with new/ saved income: buy quality powerful striker, longer/ better contracts for first team pool, and develop 1 st phase celtic triangle

I dont think the recent shootings in Dublin are anything to do with “the influence of different nationalities”

The most recent one (the 16 year old girl, who wasnt the intended target) seems to involve a feud between settled traveller gangs

But generally its to do with access to guns and cocaine,

There are some seriously out of control angry young men knocking around, and they have access to automatic weapons and mind altering drugs. Not a good combination

  6. Colds Lad? Im freezing lol..

I do work in Dublin and am the only Scot I know

The stupid comments I listed are , as you say , stupid but are attributable to every boss, relation, taxi driver I have had to deal with in the last 3 years. Thank Christ for my season ticket and ability to buy air fairs.

I broke last week watching the LC semi , when I had to argue to get the game on 1 TV and the boss came in slagging the mickey mouse league etc.

Sorry, but I have had enough of fat liverpool shirted, fat , No exercise, mammy makes ma tea, never had a shag wanks telling me not to support the Hoops.

    Rant over.

  8. WWC

Yes and the poor HMRC couldn’t even nail the case against Portsmouth which was incredible. The problem for the Taxman is he cannot have one bit of evidence that can be called into question else the case will be kicked out of court.

Good lawyers can make rape victims look like the ones on trial I imagine it will be a lot more difficult then we realise.

On the plus there is the £10m turnover/outgoings gap which needs addressed regardless.

And they can’t get their accounts signed off.

And if 17,000 fans becomes the norm which is a possibility when you see the type of player they are linked with then the mortgaging of a slice of season tickets becomes an even greater gamble.

It’s not all bad but they won’t disappear. That’s just a fantasy.

  9. Coors lad

Unfortunately there are a lot of shootings in south Dublin where I sort of live( east Kildare) . There are several reasons:

    Drugs gangs

    Family feuds

    Debts

    Tit for tat

The poor girl this week was hit due to her boyfriend being a part of a family feud. A cultural problem in Ireland linked usually to Limerick as this one as was.

Mostly it is drugs and debt same as Glasgow.

    Or

Control of pubs and drugs in the north inner city between the real IRA and drug gangs. Woops , not supposed to say that

  10. Coneybhoy, was in Dublin 2 years ago,Celtic V them, struggled to finder a bar in the city centre showing the gane..was in Cork,CrossHaven, never again,a few years back when we player Juventus, first game,no pub showed it,including an empty pub, were the barman was watching a western..spent my money else were..

I know the mindset you are on about. But I would still prefer them to The Dublin Loyal.

    However thats another story.

We could talk all night about this

There are several reasons for it (the anti celtic/scottish mindset etc) but dont rule out one very important reason. They like winding you up.

So the more you profess your love for Celtic and how great they are the more you will get the “Mickey Mouse” league etc

There has always been a big EPL support over here.TV was and is a big factor.

But hard and all as it is for Celtic fans to accept,The EPL is a better league with a better standard of players than the SPL

There is/was another element that always associated the Celtic/rangers rivalry with the sectarian hatred and violence that runied Irish life (well mainly of course Northern Irish life) for 30 years.

So in the eyes of many ,supporting Celtic was like supporting the IRA and with the “section 31 ” mentality that existed in the Republic for many years that was (to say the least )frowned upon

But the biggest stumbling block to Celtic gaining more support in the Republic and in Dublin in particular is simply the quality of the football

Anyway I am sorry that you arent having a better time in Dublin.

But we are not all EPL loving pro English mammies boys who wear track suits down Buchanan Street

  12. we have played 25 of 38

  20. DANIEL COUSIN hopes to make his second Rangers debut tomorrow against Dunfermline after agreeing a £7,500-a-week Ibrox return.

The Gabon striker will arrive in Glasgow this evening after contract talks were finalised late last night.

His agent Willie Mackay brokered the deal with Cousin set to answer Gers manager Ally McCoist’s SOS until the end of the season.

Cousin told SunSport: “When a friend asks for help, I help. I said earlier this week I wanted to return to Rangers because of Ally. Hopefully everything can now be finalised in time for Saturday.”

It’s understood Cousin turned down a bigger offer from Birmingham to return to Ibrox.

Rangers will now try and rush through the necessary paperwork with the SFA this afternoon, although they have still not received the required documents from the Gabon FA.

But Rangers believe it’s a formality which should be rubber-stamped later today. Despite reports earlier this week, Cousin also does NOT have an SFA suspension hanging over him.

He was sent off against Celtic in his last game for Gers but served that ban as a Hull player. McCoist is now hoping there are no last-minute hitches.

He said: “I’d a good chat with Daniel the other day. We talked about all aspects of the move, but he was certainly keen to come.

“I’m loathe to say much more until he arrives at Glasgow Airport, but I’m very keen.

“I can’t speak for Daniel, but looking at it from his point of view it would be a great chance for him to play at a big club he knows, to score goals and maintain a serious championship challenge.

“With a bit of luck he could help us retain the title. I don’t know what his other options are. He didn’t say that he had other options. If he has it’s up to him to make up his own mind.

“But he knows the club and the situation.

“Like most footballers he knows what’s going on around the world and especially with clubs he’s played with.

“I didn’t plead with him — I asked if he’d like to come and he obviously said yes.”

McCoist has earmarked other out-of-contract players if the deal for Cousin collapses.

Former Celtic striker Craig Beattie is understood to be someone who was considered after he was released by Swansea. McCoist added: “I have another couple of names.

“They are in the catalogue — I wouldn’t tell you where they are situated in that catalogue. They are not front page!

“As far as I’m concerned they are options.

“I would go to Craig Whyte and ask. If I felt there was a chance to bring someone else in to benefit the squad then I would do it no matter when.

“We could do with bodies — but bodies that could benefit us.”

    thoughts ?

i think all that the violence shown is very sad – it shows there is something wrong in the heart of those involved, the sorrow deep within boils over when they act like that – people don’t act like that for no reason, somethin profound is wrong with them, disturbing them

The Georgious Samaras Story..Part XXVIII..POTY Time.. For Sammi Haters..

GEORGIOS Samaras is determined to help keep the Celtic bandwagon rolling when Inverness visit Parkhead tomorrow.

The in-form Greece striker was perhaps the pick of the bunch on Wednesday night as Neil Lennon’s side hammered Hearts 4-0 to go four points clear of Rangers at the top of the SPL, and extend their domestic winning run to 16 games.

Samaras is looking to maintain that form and stay ahead of Rangers in the title run-in. “It’s all about us,” he said. “We’re here because we had a good run and we want to keep it going.

“We’ve won games and turned a lot of things round this season and we don’t want to take our foot off the gas. We now have some difficult games but we believe we have the quality to go on and win the next game.”

The odds on Celtic winning the treble have shortened in recent weeks with Lennon’s side reaching the final of the League Cup, where they will play Kilmarnock at Hampden next month.

Before that, they travel to Dundee United in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Samaras admits he is enjoying the hectic period of activity as the season gears up for a frantic finale.

“I prefer to have a game every two or three days – like Saturday, Wednesday, Sunday – because for me, I feel I have a better rhythm,” he said.
