Pivotal night in the title race

58

Hibernian are on an excellent run of form.  Undefeated in the league since they drew with the Champions in October, they won their last three games (Kilmarnock, Dundee, Aberdeen) and if results go their way tonight, could go third in the table.

It now gets complicated for them.  Celtic Park is the first of four consecutive away games.  The win at Dundee is their only victory away from Easter Road in six games across three months.  They find Glasgow, in particular, difficult, losing at Ibrox and to 10-man Aberdeen at Hampden.

Our away record in the league this season has been outstanding with only one minor blemish, an anaemic performance against a packed Hibs defence in October, as the consequences of Reo Hatate’s absence began to hit home.

No one will convince you or me that Celtic are in an excellent run of form.  However!  Since that draw to Hibs in October, a last-minute Motherwell goal is all that stood between Celtic and a 100% domestic record. Even sub-par, the champions perform like champions.

An aside for tonight, apart from Hibs, Hearts are the only other side to have won their last three league games.  It could be a pivotal evening in the title race.

Thoughts directed 100% towards our game and the 3 points . Forget the huns , their wee cousins results against them are dire regardless of form.

Would love a welcome surprise though!

Hopeful of a favourable result and performance at Celtic Park this evening

As for Tynecastle, someone once said Hearts seem to “crumble at the sight of a blue jersey”.

I’m not expecting anything different tonight.

  3. For anyone stateside – I just noticed Huns v Huns is on CBS live today.

Of course I’ll be watching Celtic but if the minis don’t implode it might be worth watching the extra time awarded to earn a varpen.

    Just saying.

  4. Celtic Park is the first of four consecutive away games.

On occasion maybe two consecutive home or away games, but 4 !

It’s just bizzare how often this happens in the SPFL, I know of no other European league where this happens.

Anyway, we’ll have the opportunity in the next three weeks to make inflict a pivotal day in the title race. Win our own games up until the break then it’s all but done. No need to be keeping an eye on their scores.

Watch out for Marshall wasting time from the kick off.

Watch out for Beaton turning his back on him when he’s doing it…

And remember Harold was not killed by the Germans 🤔🙄

But did Sevco get a penalty for it?

  8. Genuinely believe Hearts can get something tonight and allow us to stretch the lead.

They also start 15 mins after us and so it would be lovely not to have another ‘no intensity starts’ from Brendan’s team. A 2 goal advantage for us as they walk out the tunnel would be beautiful.

Thank you for your respectful response. I think we will need to agree to disagree on the merits of starting both Kyogo and Oh. 👍

And the fact that Brendan (in whom I trust) has decided against it, I feel my argument is somewhat vindicated. 😁

Will be there, freezing, but in hope and not entitled expectation tonight. That is for sure.

Hibs are capable but with less experience of a venue like CP than usual in their likely starting team. hopefully a fast start tonight can blow them away.

A wee turn from Hertz is due in the other game. Naismith certainly making the noise about their opponents corners and penalty tactics in the media.

    Not long now.

Any kind of win will do me.

Agree with recent posts about the performance of Oh.

Perhaps we’re quick to forget he is a young man living halfway round the world from home and has just returned from injury.

    He looks fit and focused.

I’ve been impressed with his recent work off the bench.

Will be there tonight. You never know what you’ll get from Hibs. They’re commonly quite soft but are capable of pulling it out at times. Given our own form I would take any kind of win, especially as I think they have maybe finally found a good manager.

You can normally bet the farm on Hertz folding to the huns. Will be pleasantly amazed if tonight’s any different.

Did I not read on these pages that a precedence was set at the w/e when a player was booked after 20-25 mins for time wasting at throw ins with the ref seen to gesture players to hurry up throughout the match? I think that same ref was the 4th official at our game away to Hibs where they were time wasting to an expert level so I can only assume its a new SFA instruction or remarkable (selective?) inconsistency from an official.

I’ve blagged a seat on a bus so will be there tonight so I am hoping that the cold will make the players keen to keep moving! More chance of that than the refs encouraging them I think.

    QB

  16. Quad- time wasting, GK aside,is a Tag Team tactic,of anyone gets booked for time wasting, next guy who does it, red card, will totally change it.

  17. I think if we say that Hearts `fold ` against Sevco, we should feel that maybe Hibs fold against us. I believe neither do.

PS and I know that His recent results against us have been good.

  18. Time for me to depart a chilly Arbroath and head for a Sunny Celtic Park :-))

    Cheerio for now.

  19. Hope everyone is keeping warm and snug.

My team for tonight would be

    Bain, Aj, CCV and Scales

    CalMac, Iwata

    Kyogo and O @ Reilly

    Mikey Oh and Palma

    KINGLuBO

  20. Kinglubo,

A winning attacking team for sure.

May I ask your thought process for dropping Joe Hart. Not that I necessarily disagree.

Was it for Sundays performance, bearing in mind he pulled off a great save which ultimately lead to our third and match winning goal.

It could be contrasted with Callum McGregor who I feel has not played to his full potential in recent games. It could be argued that he was rubbish for the first 60 minutes before redemption in the last 30.

By no means any criticism, just looking for your thinking

    HH.

PS : We need good attacking entertaining football after crashing out of Europe. What are we doing to enhance the match day experience tonight ? It’s not just the weather that’s facilitating loads of spare tickets tonight and for our next 2 off home games.

I think I’d prefer this to the oft mooted 60 minute clock that stops when play does as the tempo is as important as the time the ball is in play sometimes. Then they will take turns to have cramp no doubt !

Funny to see the clips of the ref encouraging the ball back into play tho – rarely seen at CP!

  22. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Players now routinely collapsing when ball strikes any part of the body …. hoping for a stoppage.

    Solution?

    Outfield players injured by ….

    – Cautionable offence. Treated on pitch

    – Non cautionable offence. Treated on pitch then removed from pitch for 30 seconds after game restarts

    – no foul play?

Up to his team. Either left lying there or treated on pitch then removed from pitch for 120 seconds after game restarts.

  23. Back to Basics- the cheats who dive and hold their heads, should be taken to the VAR TV,and asked to explain their actions with a microphone on,……red card…..easy to clean the game up if there’s a will….
