Subverting the law to win trophies in Scottish football. Again.

168

It is not a good look when your retail partner is fined after admitting colluding to fix the price of football merchandise.  JD Retail, Celtic’s partner, were fined £1.485m when they colluded with kit manufacturer Elite Sports and Newco Rangers to fix the price of merchandise sold to Newco fans.  I have received assurances that nothing like this has ever happened at Celtic.

The Competition and Markets Authority, who discounted the fines levied on all three organisations as each pled guilty, found that Newco “became concerned” that fans were able to buy “Rangers” kit cheaper there than at the Elite Sports operated Gers Online and physical shops in Glasgow and Belfast.  It does not appear any other clubs’ kit was involved in similar collusion.

JD said, “No directors or senior management of JD were involved in the offending conduct”, otherwise I am sure heads would roll.  Elite and Newco have yet to make similar statements.  It is hard to imagine any other UK club breaking the law in this manner, but this matter reiterates the need for ethical standards in business at the very top of an organisation.
Football clubs have a right to run retail operations that generate positive income inflows, which helps put a competitive team on the field.

When that drive for a competitive edge leads to law breaking, everyone in the game has something to worry about.  You cannot subvert the law of the land to win trophies in Scottish football, how many times, over how many years, do we need to say this?

Just one real stinker of a question still left.

What Celtic player played and scored both FOR and AGAINST England at full international level (in soccer – totally legit question)?

    A Celtic man,a family man

A pal I met on this fine Celtic forum, the craic and camaraderie mighty as anyone who met him will vouch, anytime in his company was just great fun,

I met him manys a time pre or post game, you were always getting introduced to someone who he knew from a bus trip to an away game years back,it would always end up laughing.dallasdallas will confirm that,Peter Lawell on the bus, regaling us here with away trip blogs to Ajax and love St 85,memorable to me.

Title day meets thro our 2nd 9iar,our most memorable win being Tom Rogic in 2017,in CR7 (some fitba players bar in Lisbon) as our club trebled on the 50th anniversary of being champions of Europe, epic day shared with Celtic men and woman ,so happy a memory.

He had such good taste and range in music, and had fantastic cross knowledge of music of musicians who moved band.Wee shared a liking for this bass player

    Mick Karn Sensotive – https://youtu.be/H2_JKFlRQWw

I could take another 10 min to post, and it would be another laugh. The hug in and singsong in Pink St in Lisbon with Jorge Cadete sister( a polis) was mighty craic, laughing and jumping singing oh there’s only one Jorge Cadete, smiling and chortling as I think on.:-))

    He was loved :-)

He was an Ange Postecoglou man 100% before I could pronounce the bosses name! Right from the off,as we got off to a tentative start, laughing as claims top6 may be in jeopardy. We never stop,I thought bout him as Ange was thanking us.it just seemed right.:-)

Thinking of his family today.God look over them.

    Hail Hail

  7. Good morning all from a dry but chilly Garngad.

Garry Duncan what a bhoy, although he was a year or 2 older than me we grew up together.

I can still recall us playing 10/21ers and 14 a side and still remember him with his dark hair as a wee bhoy, far to young to be gone.

R.I.P ps Garry dont you and that young brother of mine be up there getting up to any scullduggery.

    REPOST FROM LAST NIGHT

    ALMORE on 27TH SEPTEMBER 2022 9:52 PM

Tomorrow is the first anniversary of Garry Delany’s, aka Delany’s Dunky, sad passing.

It would be lovely to see people posting about Celtic, music, Poland and Ireland amongst other things, in his honour.

  9. Is it really a year since the passing Delaney’s Dunky. I remember watching his funeral on the internet, seems like yesterday.

Thoughts and prayers with his family.

  10. Didn’t see the game last night but well done Scotland.

Words I thought I’d never read in the same sentence, ‘Porteous and man of the match’. 🤭

    ……………..

I’d settle for posters refering to each other by their blog name and not the childish name calling we see.

I got a stream from 50 minutes, thought Scotland played well enough, even allowing for the pointless contribution from Jack and mcLean.

Craig Gordon had two excellent saves which got us that point👍 although playing in the top tier may be, well lets say, interesting!

  13. Prestonpans

Think we’ll be the only home nation in the top tier, it will be interesting as you say.

  14. At the Forth and Clyde canal yesterday, better known to many of us as the Nolly.

Great to see the wild life flourishing. The foxes at the Lock give their best to the Dalmuir foxes.

    YNWA.

  15. Hard to believe it’s a year since Garry passed.

He was at the Hoot on 28th August, a month before he died and was the life and soul.

I will say a wee prayer for the repose of your soul Garry at the Polish memorial at St Michael’s in Linlithgow today.

    Rest in peace mate.

  16. Garry 💚, can’t believe it’s a year since he left us, I miss the Saturday night music sessions and updates on the Dalmuir Rhebel Foxes 🦊🦊🎶🎶🍀🇮🇪

  17. Melbourne Mick

Been reading back and I see the dreaded lurgy has caught up with you, hope your symptoms are mild , get well soon ! PS. same applies to QUADROPHENIAN

  18. Just had a wee Google search. Can`t see any update on Lafferty case but it would seem the alleged sectarianism was his use of the word `fenian`.

Use of that term by anyone is not the worst example of sectarianism I have heard.

  19. Melbourne Mick ( I was going to type MM but thought better of it !) and Quadrophenian, all the best to both of you.

    Cheerio for now.

    Hot Smoked

I would be happy to be called a fenian and have no issue with the word. However when they add b…… or something else at the end as Lafferty seems to have done, it makes a big difference imo.

  21. A daft, kind vulnerable charming Bhoy,

Dalmuir Republican feeding Dalmuir Foxes, proud of his Polish connections, proud of his son Ryan & his grandkids, One of the first to believe in Ange, loved his music enhanced with some herbal assistance,

Garry it was a privilege to know you & share just a tiny part of your life.

Rest easy Comrade, a Fenian & Celtic to the core.

  22. An Tearmann and Corkcelt, some lovely recollections about your friend this morning. Its sad but its great to remember and I’m sure most of us will read those posts and have our own thoughts about your friend and our own.

    All the best.

  23. A year ago today we lost one of our family, Garry Duncan (Delaney’s Dunky). A man and a Bhoy, someone who wore his heart on his sleeve and who stood up for what he believed in.

I was fortunate enough to know him and call him my friend.

    God Bless you Garry.

    Until we meet again…

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  24. Having been O/S for decades I never got to know the much-loved Garry D.

Seems to have been a heckova guy; may he rest in peace.

PARK Rd and HOT SMOKED; thanks for the well wishes.
