Unacceptable conduct’s interesting consequence

674

We had an interesting couple of announcements from the Scottish Premier League yesterday.  Safe Standing areas, where instead of a seat, spectators have a crush barrier in front of them, is no longer against league rules.  Before the introduction of standing areas council Health and Safety officials would need to give approval, as do the police.  Council approval should be straightforward, crush barriers separating each row of spectators make the environment safe, but I’m less sure the police will be keen.

Policing huge stadiums with seated spectators is straightforward compared to policing standing fans.  Disturbances tend to cause those involved to stand up, drawing immediate attention to the incident, while knowing exactly who is sitting on which seat would allow transgressors of the Scottish Governments new interpretation on making the sign of the cross to be pursued after the event.

League rules (note: not the law of the land) have also been updated to clarify the definition of “Unacceptable Conduct” as ‘using words, conduct or displaying any writing or other thing which indicates support for, or affiliation to, or celebration of, or opposition to an organisation proscribed in terms of  the Terrorism Act 2000’.

New rules on how clubs are expected to tackle Unacceptable Conduct, with fresh procedures, if necessary, have also been introduced.  Clubs are now required to bring occurrences of Unacceptable Conduct to the Match Commander.  Failure to do so will bring the club into breach, should an incident subsequently be reported, by TV spectators, for example.

Clubs are also charged to “Take reasonably practical steps, including consultation with police, to identify those who engage in Unacceptable Conduct”, which creates obvious dissonance with the new Safe Standing Area policy.

We’ll see how these rules work out in practice but look out for an interesting consequence.  Some Celtic fans are often cited as singing about the IRA (who are on the Proscribed list in their various historical formats) but they are not the supporters who sing most about that organisation(s).  That ‘honour’ falls to Rangers fans, who are bound not to sing in “opposition to an organisation proscribed”.

The notion that Rangers (and let’s not forget Hearts) are compelled to identify and sanction any of their supporters caught “effin’ the IRA” in fear any TV viewer reports them is what keeps this country unique.

Box clever.

Thanks for the link, mic1888. It’s amazing where you get to, hopping from recommended video to recommended video on YouTube. I doubt I’ve heard this since 1991.

Poss incitement to riot, offensive behavior, blah blah blah. The only way is to challenge this. If the snp are so hell bent on getting into the EU then they have to accept any ruling fae the EU court of human rights. All these charges brought against us would be laughed outta the place so ah say let us take it to them. Time tae show this bill up for what it is, and let the world watch on!

If the authorities were as vigilant in scotland as they are in say Italy, re the match fixing, the courts in scotland would be out the door.

The manager of scotland was given the job to keep his mouth shut, the scandal that is scottish football is what it is, a scandal.

I have posted in the last few weeks that I am getting more and more inclined to give up on the football in sectarian land, why shouldI and you pump good money into a corrupt game ?

I said the other day, if we don’t win the game agin the hun next week due to a dodgy decision, that’s it for me, no more will I even entertain it, no more money to the club, the club have scottish football by the short and curlies, and I await to see what they are doing about a level playing field, or do they not want a level playing field ?

  5. Sorry I’ve been offline for a week (you didn’t notice?), busy, busy, but some progress too…

  8. Oh Paddy dear, oh did you hear the news that’s going round,

That Irish songs of freedom are by law forbid at Scottish grounds,

The anti-Irish crimes of hate, that data can’t be seen,

But they’ll be jailing men and women for the wearing of the green?

Oh the wearing of the green, oh the wearing of the green,

Will they jail our men and women for the wearing of the green?

    Cheers!

I take your point, but for the record: I do not endorse that hun logic. I hoped I was saying the establishment were targeting us incorrectly, but I do feel we as fans could have played our cards smarter.

Bourne – u have a pop at my verbose style then post that! I am not sure about your inference in relation to me ” already knowing x, y or z” – your point is?

As for your assertion that since 1993 only.one maybe two songs may have been political, and even that being highly debatable, we’ll

l that seems to be in the ear of the beholder. And so the song debate starts again…

So you don’t agree that the huns singing TFS changed things regarding songs? That more scrutiny was applied since they started singing it and started appearing in court?

Night all, will pick up briefly tm,.

The wife said a few years ago that a horse racing at the Cheltenham festival would not finish the race, the horse can’t remember it’s name was hot fav, I went to the shop and asked for odds, none were forthcoming, we watched the race on the box, and as sure as eggs are eggs it pulled up after the second fence, I mailed PP and said that chanel 4 had said that odds were available for certain horses not finishing the race, and the lassie in the shop who was a good friend backed me up that I had tried to put the bet on, they gave me a free tenner bet, they are as bent as nine bob notes.

My mate in Ireland had a shop for 40+ years, a good Tim from the Renton, and he always said that he didn’t care who won a race, all he was concerned about was who wouldn’t win the race.

Keep the head up matey as MWD says the good always prevail.

I’ll be honest i felt like this on saturday after the honest mistakes in 1 teams favour and how blatant it was.

Recently i have posted some comments on here some good and some just nuts lol but that’s the way this corrupt country is getting to me.

The thing i can’t get my head around is why they treat catholics as bad as this and i know the reason but i still don’t get it.

I would also say slowly but surely with sites like this and guys like philmac, Joe from the CSA we are starting to take the fight to them and they don’t like it.

I started to realise how bad this country was after the way our manager got treated and the media were at the front of the queue but they denied this.

The one thing i pray for this year is we win this league because Neil deserves it after the way he’s been treated.

It would totally scunner me if fat mccoist won it after they way he tried to be sleekit in the so called shame game, i can’t even look at that idiot when he’s on tv now.

We just have to look at our manager for inspiration after last year and how low he must have felt when his kid had to be dragged out his house at all hours.

  16. Canamalar,

Personally I would like to see the RA stuff dropped from Celtic games, including the likes of the BOTOB, but that’s just a personal thing as my first and true love is Celtic. All the other stuff is secondary (to me).

However, this new law has no clearly defined lines, and could lead to attempts to dilute Celtic supporter’s rights to celebrate the Irish aspect of their heritage.

What songs can we go to jail for inside a football stadium that are perfectly legal outisde a football stadium?

What songs can we go to jail for singing inside a football stadium that can be bought in shops all over the UK?

And why did the Justice Secretary praise anti-Irish, anti-Catholic songs at the national stadium after a disgrace of a League Cup Final?

Is he the “reasonable person” benchmark for this new law?

  18. Indeed, mic1888.

God help them, they don’t know who or what they are.

Only 4 years ago the Orange Lodge in Inverness were refused permission to hold a service at Culloden,…

EXCLUSIVELY for the English ( & Hunoverian) soldiers who died there in 1746.

We should not mock the afflicted.

They are more to be pitied.

    Sabre67,

nothing you said I can possibly object too.

when I go to Celtic park I go to support/SEE my team

I mumble the Celtic songs with everyone else

dodging scarfs and doing the huddle the wrong way round

I go to be part of/SEE the team

and no too keen on the paraphanalia

but it goes with the life.

the only song I’d like to change the words to are “sit down for the champions”

the rest can be as insufferable as offered but dont get in between me and my view of the pitch.

but I’ll no suffer fascists make mine an easy target.
