Celtic income down 21% after drop from Champions League

747

Celtic’s turnover slipped 21.1% last season to £51.08m (2014: £64.74m), almost wholly explained by the drop from Champions League to Europa League competition. Operating expenses dropped by a smaller amount to £53.27m; higher than income, but by a very manageable amount.

The club’s cash position at 30 June 2015 was a positive £4.72m, although this figure will stray into negative territory during the season. Net exceptional costs were down to £740k, considerably less than the £4.089m paid out a year earlier, when the management team moved on.

Profit on the sale of intangible assets (football players) was £6.773m, down considerably from the £17.052m from the previous season, and a bit of a surprise given the expected impact of Fraser Forster’s sale to Southampton. It’s possible that Newcastle United received a dividend from the Forster sale. Total loss for the year, after interest, disposals and acquisitions, was £3.947m.

“Investment in football personnel” was up slightly to £9.42m, the amortisation charge for the year was £7.313m.

It’s clear that Celtic can continue to operate at current levels but the impact of Champions League revenue on all aspects of the club remains stark.

On the club’s wider place in society, chief executive, Peter Lawwell, noted:

“Charity forms a fundamental aspect of the club that we aspire to create. Charity lies at the very heart of Celtic; it is part of our DNA.

“I am delighted to say that the Club and its supporters does more now than we ever have done for charitable purposes, most notably Celtic FC Foundation, which continues to grow from strength to strength and to inspire all those involved with it.

“The continued commitment of our supporters, shareholders and partners is crucial; I thank you for that commitment, which we will do all that we can to repay.”

  1. HT,

Thanks for that wee favour you did during the week, I am presuming you had passed my request to Lennybhoy

  2. Cowiebhoy….

That was meant to be in agreement with two up front.

Reckon you knew that anaway, just thought I’d clarify it for the less learned on here like… Auldheid, Tbb, and BRTH. ;)

  3. Clashcitybhoy…

Obviously I meant before the markets close, am no City Bhoy, and know heehaw about football never mind business, but am sure Dermot & Peter know a wee bit more than me when to release figures, some might call it bury bad news, others might call it stopping a share price drop of hundreds of thousands, anyway, I don’t give a flying French connection UK about the business and trust me blogs like this are a drop in the ocean when it comes to supporting Celtic, if I walked into my local which is a massive Celtic pub and moaned about the accounts being released at a certain time I would be laughed out the pub, I totally understand what you are saying but if the business is running well should we be worried, anyway, it’s all about the team on the park for me and I am more interested in Siomonuvic than stock markets

I’m glad I was doon in that London when the abomination you highlighted took place.

I had to squint at the writing above the seats to be sure it was The Jungle, and you know what-it was,and it wasn’t!

  5. Just posted this with regard to the STV dave king interview, tell me I am wrong with regard to the payday loan aspect

“Was chatting with a mate who happens to be a zombie current bun (they exist in the dark reaches of the huniverse)

He was trying to explain why king was not needing to put in the 20 million he promised as he said we do not need it at this moment in time.

I then asked why the company was gona exist on short term loans from the 3 bears??

He explained that was what the comapny required. Short term investment instead of long term.

Took a deep breath and asked if it was like a payday loan??

When your credit is shot to shit and you cant get an overdraft or a loan you get a payday loan.

One that is front loaded and designed to fuck you in the ass.

Like rangers not being able to secure long term funding they take the short term business payday loan that will, in likely terms, leave them with a sore ass!!

There you have it ghuys. king has publicly admitted that the huns cannot get credit for an appropriate long term business loan and are now preparing to bend over and get a$$ raped for a business type payday loan.

Safe to say, he aint talking anymore!!

    COWIEBHOY

Pat Stanton played less than a year with us. I’ve just woken up,but my inner pedant never sleeps!

Signed in September 76 and injured August 77.

I think his injury was the first one we suffered that season. It was far from the last. It was like Emergency Ward 10…

    _——————————————————————-

My memory isn’t what it used to be but I always thought we got two seasons out of Stanton.

A real Hibs legend and a guy who oozed class in the Connolly mould. He could play sweeper or midfield and would be worth a fortune today.

As disappointed as I am at not being in the CL, I think the reality is that we’ve not been at the top of European competition for most of our existence.

I’d like guys to sign for Celtic without spouting any ” I want to play CL” guff. I go to watch Celtic every week and now want us to sign a team who simply want to play for us, without having to sell the mythical CL card.

Surely we can develop a team, including that rare breed of top class strikers, from the confines of our own shores. For me, the buy and sell on strategy is past its sell by date.

  12. Roy..,

    Good to see you back.

The Celtic supporters would never accept a team being slaves to a system, that’s what MrStein said anyway, but that’s exactly what we’re being told to accept , a rigid system where players must conform.

  13. Looking Forward to the game at aberdeen , with Virgil and JD at the back i would have no doubts, but that was Then and this is Now, I really Hope we win…Now its off to Jacksonville, Where the Gorgorgeous Ms Diamond awaits me…Peace and Love…HH

  14. Clunks

yer not wrong…..it’s even better…..Sevco are in limbo…..fated to die a total death…..means we’ve lived through R#ngers 1872 death & ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…..thats it & R#nkers death soon…..ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…..how many of us coulda/shoulda/woulda REJOICE in it…..;-))

  15. Hello again all you young rebels.

    Cowiebhoy

Always wondered that myself, why big Peter never got a testimonial.

I loved him and although we’ve had better keepers over the years he

was and still is a big favourite of the fans.

My personal best memory of him was at a game against Clyde at

Shawfield on bitterly cold night and you could barely walk the streets

for thick ice but for some reason the game was still played and with

hardly a soul in the park and the small terrace across from me

completely empty when in came about a dozen or so young tims

all absolutely blootered with their cairyoots all singing and dancing

as if we had just won the big cup again, then one would fall ,they

would pick him up and then another would fall it was so funny, and

as they had the terracing to themselves they tried running along and

back with arms extended like aeroplanes, then they started the Peter

Latchford chant and give us a wave which the big Mhan obliged and

with a wee dance to keep them amused.

Don’t remember much about the game but that little cameo has

stuck in my auld foggy brain for years.

  17. Celticrollercoaster can you explain two things then my friend?

Why did Paul say it was due to the management team leaving ( a wee slip of the tongue I think)?

Why wasn’t it included under amortisation then? Or what is extra amortisation?

QF errr. You will find it was Paul who quoted the 4m figure. Why don’t you shout at him.

BCW your slip is showing. As much as I like it shooting messengers is a wee bit childish. I have never been gleeful when we get beat. Angry yes but never gleeful.

And in a nutshell that sums it up. Clever, educated Celtic supporters makimg up lies because they don’t want to hear any criticism of a board which is an active particant in corruption.

I find it so sad. But then again my experience tells me that most people, faced with the challenge of what the board have done to us, wilt I to submission.

And that’s why we are here. Despite ronnys complete crap about us being stronger we are far weaker. We are being lied to repeatedly. Again and again.

And yet you lap it up. Like a lapdog. But man you love slagging the Hun for it.

They screwed up through avarice. We are screwing up,through cowardice.

And man we love to crow don’t we?

Look at the stupidity of the Huns, we could never be like that. Not us.

But don’t you dare criticise us. Cos we are beyond criticism.

But please everyone. Don’t think about the pathetic performances on the pitch or in the boardroom.

If you do you are disloyal, stupid and all the names you have called me for daring to pony out the stupidity.

The Huns are about to return and we are getting worse every year. Thanks to the lack of ambition we are co,img down to their level. We clearly want to be screwed.

You caused this. You wanted it.

When I’m two to three years from now we are wallowing in the cheating and nunnery and bigotry. And you are on this site complaining? Don’t!

You caused it by your apathy. You are part of it and you are perpetuating it for your children.

All those crap empty boasts about the Huns children being Celtic supporters.

Naw. Your grandchildren will be asking how Celtic could have possibly screwed this up. My god I am asking it now and don’t have an answer.

But you sychophants. Look in the mirror.

    You propped it all up.

    Congrats.

  18. Dont worry, when the Huns come back up next year, that 21 percent in income we have lost, will be more than made up,by the fans who”Dont miss them”and will come flocking back. You know the ones”Faithful through and through”You can say what you like about lawell, but he was bang on with his quote about how much we are down without the huns in the league.
