A real big team would rest players at Ibrox

194

Celtic have two bounce games coming up ahead of the Scottish Cup Final: Ibrox on Sunday then Hearts at Celtic Park on trophy presentation day.  One of the benefits of winning the league early is being able to rest players and prioritise ahead of the Cup Final, we should do this now.

Newco will do their upmost to convince their fans the ever-present gap is closing by doing all in their power to win the game.  I might feel different on Sunday afternoon, but let them do their worst, this game does not matter.

We have to be fit and ready for Hampden.  Whatever ails Kieran Tierney, he should not be risked.  Instead, Emilio Izaguirre should be given the jersey and if Leigh Griffiths is even remotely close to fitness, he should play.  We like to think of ourselves as being a ‘big team’.  If we are, rise above local bragging rights and aim for history.

We all have a point of view. Whether or not it is valid is subjective. HH

Ok, let’s flip this around if you will permit me.

Why was the league stronger in Lenny’s last two years or Deila’s years compared to Brendan’s years?

I’m failing to see how you can justify the smear against Brendan.

  3. Imagine not doing a “guard of honour” for the CELTIC team………….shocking

Neil still has to convince plenty that he is the man next season, there’s absolutely no chance he will play an under strength team on Sunday. If we did and got pumped 3 or 4,he will never get the job.

  5. I couldn’t agree with you more Paul. Put out the famous Chris Sutton Celtic reserves.

Celtic effectively played an under strength team last time.

Little Mickey Johnston up front, our best midfielder at LB and no Rogic in midfield. We were terrible but the best they could come up with was a deflected goal.

T29- we did, i think Rodgers was trying to send a message to the board then…

Hot Smoked at 2.34. I like that reasoning. So much so that I’ll nick it for Twitter ;-)

  9. I’m with Bada Bing and Jamesgang on this.

Sevco should be offered little / no encouragement.

P67, I’m also not following your preference of Izzy at left back. J.Hayes every day of the week, if we are resting K.T

I also feel young T.Ralston is a stronger more solid option than Toljan. Therefore I’d be going in to Sunday as follows :

    ——————–Bain—————————-

    T.Ralston Jozo Ajer J.Hayes

    ——Broony McGregor ————

    Forrest Rogic Burke or Weah

    ———–Edouard ——————

    Get it right up them.

  10. Think Jonny Hayes gets a bit over excited, would be a stick on for Douglas Ross. Ironic, that we’re back to the Zombie Dome with problems at left back, at least we know Neil Lennon won’t play MacGregor out of position.

Rodgers had already made his mind up by then.

  12. Sorry folks, cannot agree with Paul’s analysis at all.

EVERY time, you meet the hun, you hammer them, you score as many against them as possible.

Never, ever, let them in with a chance. We play a weakened team, we get a player sent off and get beaten by 3 or 4 goals ??????

No, put them to the sword. Fact is we have only scrapped results against them this year.

Frighten any would be investors in that den of darkness by hammering them.

Hearts don’t matter. Rest some of the players for that game if need be, never against the hun, never.

Paying fans should not have to see our Bhoys suffer, ever.

  13. Too many Celtic supporters are living in fear of the challenge on Sunday and therefore trying to play down the significance. Getting the excuses in early. We do not want to lose this game having gone the calendar Year unbeaten. We are Glasgow Celtic so lets go there and take the game to them in our own style. Let them fear us, we are the Champions. Bring it on.

  14. !!Bada Bing!! on

RM- Ralston still injured I’m sure, but Hayes is back up LB for me ,not Izzy, a bit concerned we have offered him a 1year deal….been a great player for us,but too slow now IMO

  15. Friesdorfer on

Hayes at LB for me also. Sadly, Izzy is past his best, but has been a great servant to Celtic. I’ll never forget the joy on his face when he scored v St Johnstone away.

  16. Agree Bada

The latest reports I heard re: Ralston is that he has played 3 or 4 games with the Development squad. I know he wasn’t in their squad for the last game (St Johnstone). But I thought he was fit n ready ?

  17. I’ve just read the article…start Leigh Griffiths? Dear oh dear. Surely P67 you’re making a point here, you cannot be serious.

  18. Offering Izzy, Lustig, and Sinclair new deals.

    IMO is not great news.

I fully understand the need to have some experienced heads in and around the squad next year.

Broony, Forrest, Jozo, Rogic, McGregor and some others all have a wealth of experience.

The squad needs re-freshed, and now would of been an ideal time to shed some ageing, past their best high earners. Sinclair approx. £34k per week, Lustig £24k per week, and Izzy approx. £10k per week.

It would make both financial and football sense point these guys towards the exit door.

And I say that knowing full well that each of these guys have been tremendous servants over the piece. They can all leave with their heads held high.

  19. Didn’t even get a Cup Final ticket in the second ballot.

How many home ticket scheme holders do we have?

    One less next season anyway.

    Eurochamps67

  20. Au contraire if signing ‘rumours’ are true.

Delighted to have Lustig Izaguirre and Sinclair for the tilt at nine.

Lustig Sinclair no brainer, Izaguirre less so but decent emergency cover.

Doesn’t mean they’ll be at the coalface as this ‘news’ over the course and distance of league nine. Lustig has plenty left to offer ( see Saturday ) as a covering squad right back, Sinclair for his goals ratio alone is worth keeping.

I’d expect we’ll pursue the new RB we all expected last summer, and the new manager whoever he is, will recall Celtic’s summer of signing discontent, the same as most fans and will have his signing stipulations, that won’t resemble The Daily Rangers top picks.

  21. RUGGYGMAN on 7TH MAY 2019 4:24 PM

    Totally agree.

Unless this means the club will allow the wage bill to grow in order to get the 10.

Maybe we’re willing to sign a LB & RB as well as keeping the experienced guys.

  22. RUGGYGMAN on 7TH MAY 2019 3:51 PM

    Forrest Rogic Burke or Weah

    ———–Edouard ——————

    ——–

Weah will not start, Tavernier will run past him for fun. Ntcham and Sinclair cannot be trusted in the trenches. Hayes will start, at left back or will play in front of KT. McGregor must play in the centre beside Brown. Right back is up in the air? It might have to be Toljan or a back 3. Plenty of choices and tough decisions to be made.

If all fit, for me it is same team as Aberdeen but replace Weah with Hayes.

  23. Neil will put out a team to win the game and remain unbeaten in 2019. If we’re worried about KT play Jonny at left back. I would have the Griff on the bench with the stipulation that he comes out the tunnel with a CELTIC scarf round his wrist. Jimmy Bell and 40k currant buns in meltdown. Yahoo!

  24. David17

It has already been strongly intimated by Lennon himself, that K.T won’t be risked.

I’d be very surprised to see him play at Ibrox.

if he is missing then my personal preference is Hayes at left back. Wide left therefore, would be 1 from Sinclair, Burke, Weah.

It should also be noted that James Forrest played a large proportion of Saturdays game vs Aberdeen, out wide left.

Good luck to Darren O’Dea,who is retiring at the end of the season.

    —————-

Agree. Always liked Darren when he was with us, thought he had real potential. Mind you, 20-odd Ireland caps is not a bad haul.

Nice to see on the BBC report him showing his respect and gratitude to Tommy Burns.

    Go well, young man.

hi ghuys just posted this on another site if not interested just ignore and scroll by.hh.JIM, talking about reb nights, always remember starting my first job in bedlay colliery. where my father worked and by coincidence my uncle packy was the shop steward, it pays to have influence , anyway you know I have bad claustrophobia so uncle packy got me a job on the pithead so I did not have to go underground anyway, I digress,,i had about half a dozen rebel lps but we had only one radiogramme remember them, so used to play them full blast when my parents were out so my mum says to me ok your working now why don’t you get yourself your own record player so on the Saturday morning I get an alexanders bus remember them into Glasgow on my own for the first time, went to a store think it was called goldbergs maybe wrong, and bought myself a dansette record player on tick obviously, brought it home and the rest is history, sean south, the soldiers song. the merry ploughboy belting out my bedroom.happy memories.hh.

Play the Reserves! That would be a blunder, Sevco will be going for the jugular, if they get in front then they would go all out to hammer us, and if they did hammer us that would put everything into a tailspin at the worst possible time. Think about it, set our ourselves up to be hammered by Sevco in front of their thuggish fans with hardly any of our guys there to support! No way – why would we want to do that, we can field a strong team against them and still field a strong team against Hearts in the final, no problem, thats why we’ve got a big squad. Hari Kari at Ibrox – forget it!

  28. In the words of Robert Nesta Marley (when asked about team selection versus the FOD)

‘For it seems like, total destruction, the only solution….’

Hopefully this will get a wee wave from delaneys

  29. Agree completely with Paul. Do not give Der Hun any opportunity to injure key players ahead of Cup Final.
