Bulgaria would be the handpicked destination

There are several challenging looking unseeded teams we could face in this afternoon’s Europa League draw.  AZ Alkmar are joint-top with Ajax in the Netherlands.  Getafe are fourth, but only five points off the top of La Liga after 17 games and above Atletico.

Brugge are eight points clear in Belgium, while Olympiacos are top in Greece, but only on goal difference.  I know we took care of Lazio, but Roma, one point below their neighbours in Serie A, will be every bit as difficult.  Wolves continue to demonstrate they are a solid team in the Premier League.

A couple of the bigger names are going through difficult times.  Sporting are 16 points below Benfica and nine below Porto.  Eintracht are 12th in the Bundesliga, six points off a relegation spot and seven off Europe.

If I could handpick a team it would be Ludogorets.  They progressed to the knockout stage due to a 5-1 win at home to CSKA Moscow and a draw in the return game.  They managed a draw in the final game at home to Ferencvaros, which was enough to see them finish a point ahead of the Hungarians.

The nightmare scenario would be if you were a TORY.

So sssh, don’t say a word!

    :-(

  3. In 2014/15 I was off on another wander this time around India. I think it was about December when I reached Delhi and stayed in the big market by Connaught Place.

My abiding memories of that city will be the car-park traffic, the belching exhausts and the acrid air, contrasted with the brilliant people, smiles and welcome, and sadly the parasitic riches and subservient poverty, one feeding off the other and providing just enough wherewithal to ensure the continued supply of raw material, muscle and labour.

However, one particular morning, following a night of high winds, the air was surprisingly clear and I headed for a wee jog.

As I returned via Central Park there was an Ice Cream van parked up and selling some good looking mint choc chip cones.

I ordered one and it was so good it reminded me of the best stuff from back home.

So I told the bloke running it that he should change his van name to ‘Delhi’s Walls’.

He smiled not having a clue what I was on about, but everyone in Delhi smiles.

Anyway, that’s enough keech (true keech mind you) for today.

    Hail Hail

  5. Daily rectum…

Steven Gerrard’s team, meanwhile, emerged from one of the tightest groups in the competition and but for a late own goal would’ve joined their city rivals as seeds.

    Dearie me…….

  6. Exiting Hampden after the Leeds game…feet clean off the ground and carried along with the crowd…never experienced that at Ibrox…but I did enjoy going to Ibrox. My favourite game there (even better than 1966 Glasgow Cup 4-0) was when Motherwell beat them 5-2 in the scottish cup replay 1961. My uncle took me to see REAL footballers…pat quinn, ian st. john, willie hunter, pat delaney. We were in amongst Well and Celtic fans. 80,000 crowd. I remember thinking that their floodlights were very dim compared to the recently installed lights at CP…

Braga did really well in their group but are 9th domestically. Could be anything that tie but as you say the huns will be pleased after matching Porto

Copenhagen won’t be easy but i agree, we should win that

  8. Copenhagen start a two month break after their game tonight and come back the weekend before the first leg.

    Huns get lucky again

  9. Braga 9th in Portugal, Copenhagen 2nd in Denmark. I reckon the Huns got the softest seeded team.

I’m happy with our draw, we will have to be at our best but it’s a game we can win.

  10. Definitely a glass half full kinda draw.

    Pretty satisfied with that.

No easy ties at this stage (other cliches are available)

  11. Remember to vote for your best players from yesterday, by 10pm tonight please – cqnpoty@gmail.com .

I’ve been unsuccesful so far at sourcing a re-run of the whole game so won’t be able to vote myself.
