Celtic must call for resignation of Regan and Doncaster

1440

Tomorrow’s SPL meeting is something of a formality, albeit as dramatic as a formality can be.  The main scheduled action of the week is underway at Hampden right now.  We hear that after issuing threats to exclude 20 SFL clubs from future access to the top two divisions in Scottish football, SPL and SFA chief executives, Neil Doncaster and Stewart Regan, will face irate SFL chairmen.

In mitigation of the criticism coming his way, Mr Doncaster is offering your money, in perpetuity, to buy votes to allow Sevco to gain direct access to the First Division.  If passed, they would probably enter the SPL next season, close to debt free, while Celtic carry peak debt of around £35m after playing by the rules and not qualifying for Champions League football during the last three seasons.

In short, if Mr Doncaster manages to persuade the SFL chairmen to back his plan, Sevco will become by far the strongest team in the SPL a year from now.

The plan has been rejected as wholly unacceptable by an impressive list of clubs with no association whatsoever with Celtic, many of whom exist hand-to-mouth and whose vote against will cost them considerable income.

Doncaster’s part in creating this shambles cannot be underestimated.  He perpetuated the myth that “Rangers” should and would be in next season’s SPL, allowing people to invest in an undeliverable strategy, including Charles Green.

Mr Doncaster is an employee of the company Celtic are an equal-twelfth shareholder in.  His actions are wholly incompatible with sporting meritocracy.  As Celtic shareholders we call for his resignation and, if this is not forthcoming, demand he faces a confidence vote.

“Without fear or favour” was the promise from Stewart Regan when he told us he would apply the rules evenly as the Rangers saga unfolded.  In advocating rules are torn up and replaced his words are laughable.

His assertion that the actions of Campbell Ogilvie over Rangers EBTs had been investigated and that Ogilvie was found to be without blame was misleading.  It is our assertion that the actions of Mr Ogilvie were not investigated at all and that Mr Regan spoke to protect his ally, who remains in position despite being “heavily conflicted” according to Mr Regan, and the SFA being in desperate need of a strong and active president.

Mr Regan is now wholly compromised and must resign or also face a vote of confidence. Two years ago he joined a dysfunctional organisation. He had a great opportunity to make a name for himself as a successful troubleshooter. Instead he’s made matters worse!

Because they cannot be granted a licence. That could have been said months ago.

Do they not need a licence to play in the SFL to ?

Yup but a different process from the SPL license which mirrors the UEFA criteria.

They actually fail to meet National Club Licensing criteria for an SFL spot but I think SFL clubs would agree to an exemption possibly through an EGM but I have not looked at how the SFL can go about agreeing this.

Before I read back,I gather that the latest Murray spokesman for Rangers has, erm, apoligised.

It seems he used a lot of words starting with “d” none of which included dastardly deeds.

I got pelters on here last week for accepting Bummer Brown’s apology, cos it,IMO,was heartfelt.

    This one was not.

Up to 6 SPL clubs at risk according to Stewart Regan. Sounds like option being presented is first division or nothing

Agree. There must be a call for resignations of both .. Also Ogilvie and a few others.

Not sure it should be a Celtic call. We need someone else to propose and someone else to second … Then we have a vote all nice and democratic

I am not a fan of the Celtic board. I feel they have lacked imagination in the past (never advocated crazy spending either …)

However, on this subject ..on this case. I believe they are utilising all the knowledge, skill and nous one would expect from a group of big hitting boardroom leaders. Captains.

Stand back and watch thems devouring one another. Say nothing as the fur flies. When the dust settles. Comment on the next steps for our club. Nothing more, nothing less.

I expect there has and will continue to be manoeuvring in the background… ;)

Let’s not make Celtic the story here!

Now im not sure but are the administrators still involved at Ibrox as to my knowledge the Liquidation has not started as yet so there still appears to be an old Rangers until the administrators walk away and the Liquidators move in is this correct? The whole situation is shrouded in secrecy which of course you would expect from any Masonic dealings now and again small snippets escape and are aired in public but then quickly dismissed and everything goes quiet again.I still think what we are witnessing here is a plan being carried out by the forces of darkness to ensure minimum punishment and a quick return to the SPL for newco without any debts which would make them the strongest club financialy in the SPL.H.H.

  12. Celtic_First on

What justification is there for bringing a completely new entity into SFL1? What rationale are they offering for this?

If six SPL clubs will go out of business with corrupt Rangers, let them go out of business. They clearly are not running sustainable businesses if they are dependent on a corrupt bully to throw them a few crumbs. We will be better off without them.

It’s only Scotland, but the elite football league must contain the best clubs in the land. This, self-evidently, cannot include clubs that cannot pay the bills they have run up on the coat-tails of a corrupt Rangers or, even more self-evidently, a new entity without any accounts or licence to play.

  13. @bbcjimspence: Up to 6 SPL clubs at risk according to Stewart Regan.

You might as well say up to 11 SPL clubs at risk …

Besides, with Doncaster in the room, why is it the SFA CEO who’s imparting this nugget … ?

  14. Hi Paul,

Agree with all of that, the most ridiculous element of this risible situation is the position of Campbell Ogilvie…

“…who remains in position despite being “heavily conficted” “……the SFA being in desperate need of a strong an active president.”

The “R@ngers’ Crisis” is the biggest thing in Scottish Football in a generation. The “Scottish Football cannot succeed without R@ngers” cabal has riddled every part of the professional game.

Malcolm Murray has apologised unreservedly to Scottish Football regarding old RFC’s Management. Yet the SFA president (and part of old RFC’s management) by his own admission has to step back and have no involvment in this crisis.

The sooner this weeks over and their failure’s complete, the sooner we can purge the putrid organisations.

  15. Can Mr regan explain what these 6 Clubs are at risk of?

If its administration liquidation or even constipation the 6 are at risk with or without Costcuttingco,

David Murray has just tweeted that someone has stolen his smoke and mirrors, last seen over Hampden way.

  16. I think you’re posting on the wrong site.

No, I think I am posting on the right site. If you think that Celtic are not the most disliked club in Scotland you’re kidding yourself. And you’re trying to kid other people too.

How long before folk realise that message boards like this are for telling the truth?

Paul’s dead right about the Celtic board keeping quiet, and he’s dead right to stay out of the clamour for comment. Myself, I’d be pleased to see him making the point explicitly, but I concede it’s not obligatory.

So is Stewart Regan telling the SFL clubs that they must:

    a. let NewClub into Division 1, and

    b. ensure NewClub gets promoted?

  20. So here is the reality of the matter.

Celtic have peak debt of 35 million pounds.

Ogilvie still in position within SFA.

Zoms back in 1 to 3 years with no Debt.

Zoms could have a 35million pound financial advantage over us in one year.

Yet some are still referring to them as weakened.

By Regans argument, if any of the 6 get liquidated do they also have a case to go straight into Div 1?

Are we heading towards a franchise system?

What if Newco dont win promotion at first attempt?

He may just find that by continual bullying someone will take his ball away, figuratively speaking of course

  23. Certain posters only appear on particular days.

TBB – sorry to labour this, but roughly what percentage of that estimated income would be down to Sky Sports packages?

I only subscribed to Rupert’s sports channels when Setanta over-stretched themselves in England and their SPL subscription ended along with the UK part of the company. I believe the figures showed that the Setanta deal wasn’t that bad for Scottish football, althought it was essentially Old Firm Pay TV.

I suppose I’m trying to get a feel for the viability of a proper Scottish Pay TV channel (possibly hosted by ESPN) with a broad based customer base, rather than continuing to contribute to the bloated product south of the border.

We know the product up here isn’t great, but we’re not going to help improve it by staying with Rupert.
