CHRISTOPHER JULLIEN: YESTERDAY’S HERO

1

CHRISTOPHER JULLIEN was the last-minute goal hero the last time top-class Serie A opposition were at Parkhead.

The nearest the £7million French defender will get to the action tonight will be a seat in the stand at a deserted stadium.

Last season, with the Hoops’ Europa League encounter with Lazio deadlocked at 1-1, Jullien rose the highest in a packed penalty area to send a header from a right-wing corner-kick rocketing into the net for the points clincher.

This time around, though, will be no sign of the towering centre-back as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his AC Milan team-mates are in town for the Group H confrontation in this campaign’s tournament.

Jullien’s last appearance was in the 5-0 victory over Ross County on September 12 and he has sat out the last six games with a back injury.

Neil Lennon, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “He is going to be out for a period of time, he is still in a lot of discomfort. He’s had scans, there is inflammation at the bottom of his spine.

“So, he is going to be a few weeks, unfortunately.”

James Forrest, who limped off in the 1-0 win in Riga, will be scanned in the next couple of days while Lennon added: “Mikey Johnston is back in training, but he has been a long time out so it is softly, softly with him.”

Also missing against the Italian aces will be Odsonne Edouard, Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed with all three testing positive for coronavirus while on international duty with their countries, but Ryan Christie will be back.
